- demo Windows Ultimatum to the World: First Days of the Last War by mfx [web]
- 1st place WTF.
The tank was okay and deserved to be shown for about 15 seconds. Instead we get it for 5 minutes intermixed with video clips and news clippings. Uhh.
Is this supposed to be a political statement or something? The only time I could tolerate that in a demo is if it was actually saying something new or interesting. Which this isn't. - sucksadded on the 2007-09-08 15:43:33
- demo Windows MacOSX PPC MacOSX Intel Cosmosis: Remixed by Spöntz [web]
- I'll put aside the fact that I think the demo is 'meh' for a moment, and ask a question to Khrome about the soundtrack:
In the video linked on this page, at the 50sec mark onwards there is a section that sounds directly sampled from the music they use on the1upshow.1up.com (which AFAIK compose all their own music).
Was this from a common source, or does it come from 1up?
I don't think it's long enough (10-15s) to classify as 'ripping' as such, but it threw me off guard a little... :) - isokadded on the 2007-07-24 20:46:05

- demo Windows fr-055: 828 by Farbrausch [web]
- I love this prod. It's one of my favourite audio-visual works. But it's not a demo, and I can't judge it as a demo. It's not why I've been following the demoscene since I grew fond of those cracktros on my A500. As a demo, it gets a thumb down.
I'd elaborate on that, but I think most people here understand what I mean.
About the work itself...
When it managed to make that sphere near the beginning disappear without me noticing right away, I knew it was going to be something special.
I sat back and was mesmerised. Like with most abstract art, I'm not one of the people who tries to interpret things consciously, or pretends to know what they mean. Just let it enter your subconscious, and it will either evoke feelings or it wont.
This is not Another Haujobb Demo. A lot of the later Haujobb prods just left me cold, like sequels of a big movie franchise with no love. This one offers me something, and I know I'll be able to come back to it and feel it inside me again and again.
Shame it could probably be more powerful if the technical aspects of the graphics were less... 2002 ;P - rulezadded on the 2007-02-23 23:32:03
- demo Windows Final Audition by Plastic [web]
- Love this prod from an artistic POV. It's true that the scenes themselves aren't /that/ imagininative, but the whole thing flows together and creates a lovely mood.
Even the metaballs scene - such an old and boring effect, but in context it gives a wonderful ambience.
Re: HDRI maps, I haven't read into how these worked, but surely a custom raytracer would be able to generate these? I'd prefer that in demos to ones generated with photography + special equipment anyway... - rulezadded on the 2007-01-04 13:05:01

- Don't have glasses, so piggy for now. I shall fashion something with left-over christmas sweet wrappers later ;)
BUT: ever thought of releasing a demo just as a normal stereogram? (i.e. two images side by side)
No glasses required, all colour information remaining... It might suck on the bigscreen close up, as you wouldn't be able to cross your eyes far enough, but...
It's probably a bit late to ask for a final with this feature now though :3 - isokadded on the 2007-01-03 23:26:33

- demo MS-Dos Tour by Pulse [web] & Pygmy Projects & Virtual Dreams
- The music is *NOT* ripped. I'm quite a big Portished fan, and have that very album - the track is not even close.
Some of the samples sound the same, and I'd say the track definitely inspired this piece... but to call it a rip is a bit much IMO.
Anyway, great demo! Only managed to run it once or twice on my machine back then, after that for some reason it would crash randomly.
Nevertheless, awesome gfx / music / design. I think this is tied for first place with 72ms as my favourite Pulse demo, can't believe it only has 15 comments. - rulezadded on the 2006-12-05 10:39:05
- demo Amiga OCS/ECS D.A.N.E by Kefrens
- Fucking awesome. But i always felt a little sad at the end too, when it ended so quickly...
