hey, i know why this intro can be unstable: it uses segment 9000h, and last block of it (4 kb) is ofter reserved for extended BIOS data area (EBDA, usual BDA is located at 0040h). Intro corrupts this blocks and uses data from it, so you see a lot of garbage and machine hangs on exit.
DOSBox, as i know, doesn't have an EBDA, so intro can freely use this segment :)

any clue how to find 64K?

dunno, only using DOS memory handling functions?

with int 21h intro fails.

this is okayish. crunching that in 64 byte would be impressive ;)

the register DX holds the current codesegment at the start of the program (in almost all DOS versions out there, see :: HERE ) .You could add ~ your codesize / 16 to not overwrite your own code and work with that segment. That'd be safer than messing around with high memory ;)

I like it a bit, even though flashy flickery.

g0blinish: don't care that much about that memory thingie. I go down to 8000h to get more memory like others do too in their intros :D Never had a problem with that. And there is always some machine where intros don't run correct :)
Ok, then. thank you for tips.

ok

COM programs get all free memory allocated by the loader, so allocating more memory using DOS functions will fail. IIRC.

the flickering destroys the mood for me, although the pattern looks nice.
