This was already amazing at Assembly, and it still is! Much kudos for working out the problems, and please make sure you visit us in Suomiland next year too. It was awesome partying with you :).

This was cool...respect for so much content, though some of it felt really messy and unpolished (especially the music, which was very cool but incoherent and poorly mixed).
Overall though, one of the top 64k's this year I think :)

A hint for this type of music so far: it felt like it was trying to be more epic than it was...I think for a tune like this the volume could be pumped up and perhaps less parts playing at once...a bit of a cleaner feel would've given it the extra oomph it needed.
Once again though, I really liked this :)

Yeah, this was nice :). I liked the mood even though it felt mostly like an object show. However, the objects were nicely designed and it felt like the visuals had coherence and a nice style :). The music had some problems with the audio production even though I liked some part of it quite a lot, especially the parts where it goes into major. Very cute :D. It might have been a tad incoherent at places but then again it is nice to let the music change together with the different scenes. All in all I enjoyed this :).
Very pretty. Would like a 1080P video of it.
massive, but not my cup of tea
this is very cool 64k intro! thnx for it guys
Looked pretty on the bigscreen, there were not many entries to this comp so props for supporting it with such a nice demo.
Mega!
What a nice 64k! Nice scenes and models, and some really good textures too! A bit less DOF-blur would made me able to enjoy some of the scenes even more.
Awesome work guys!
Awesome work guys!
Good one...
I really liked this :)
woow !!
Neat soundtrack and lots of content in form of textures and objects.
Would be thrilling to see that paired with a some math-magic in the future releases.

Nice objects & textures.
You fucking cripples!
Yes, little les FOV, I couldn't enjoy it as much but the textures and models are quite nice.
Cool demo. Great objs and textures.
Nice one!! Didn't liked the tune, but nice show anyway. :D
Sorry, but the music ruins the whole production imo. Some really nice visuals though.
Was looking forward to this for ages, and it didn't disappoint. Impressive amount of content, and textures which successfully avoid the shonkiness that can plague even the best 64ks.
Best 64k of 2009 (so far), naturally.

fucking. awesome.
like all of it !
like all of it !
to much high quality content for a 64k. congratulations. even startup config screen background graphic was great and taking more space than standart config screens. unbelievable.
too much dof, but still a great intro !
high quality textures, nice meshes. I really liked butterflies and that ship with eye :)
This demo requires supercomputer to be precalculated in reasonable amount of time... Anyway thumb up for a good picture. Although DOF (if it is DOF, of course :) ) looked more like random blur.
a really nice techdemo that bleeds from a bit too many pitfalls (if your synth can make nice pads, dont ruin the music with drums, your camera movements are awful, etc.)
certainly the best 64k of the year so far.

doesn't work on vista, setup dialog works, but crashes after a while of loading
a really cool 64k
nice visuals but wtf!?
...
...
Another one of those looks-like-an-ordinary-demo 64ks. Very nice artwork and slick rendering, but not very interesting all in all.
Yep, very nice models and textures, but the music couldn't really support the visuals.
Maybe it's buggy? The melody samples were almost inaudible, all I could hear were the drums and bass.

...oh and precalcing the setup screen made me chuckle :D
great work best 64k of 2009, but damn it's so kitsch :D
Good production! I like it. You can do better, so I`ll wait for the next one :)
Giant work!
PS:
Because of unnatural depth of sharpness and textures, sensation that the camera flies in a small doll-house

Scheiße! :)
Very impressive!
Huge loading time here, then a black screen & some music. (gf6800)
videó plz
videó plz
Massive impressive, although music sounds odd. Loud snares and no bass. I could hear the melody but everything was pretty quiet.
Music/mixing could've been better, everything else was great!
great stuff here
Enjoyed this incredibly. I liked the visuals and the music. Parts of the visuals reminded me of steampunk.
What Maissi said!
black screen (looks like a crash) + sound here, too (gf7600 + some old athlon)
what about a video?
what about a video?
I'm just thumbing it up because you've spent so much time on the synth and because eventually it will work on non-windows.
great intro! high quality objects, textures, and effects, and well designed scenes. as for the synth and music, impressive pads but the percussion could use some refinement. :)
Approximate delivers. Indeed.
Although, I did notice that its quite memory hungry. While running it uses about 800 Mb Mem usage and 1600 Mb VM Size. And it seems to do so while causing page faults on my 2 Gb AMD system from the periodic heavy stuttering I see. As a comparison I checked Frameranger and it runs on about 650,750.

Gah. At work, can't see it.. vidcap?!
probably the current leader of the (ableit limited) 64k class of 09. the textures (the wood) and the lighting are the highlights of the show, followed by the meshes.
approximate are coming on in leaps and bounds as they get more comfortable with finishing things and releasing them - this makes 3 in the last year, congrats! the question that remains to be answered is where they go from here. if they want to make a great 64k, not just a competent 64k, they need to go beyond summarising whats gone before and start adding something new. i look forward to seeing what they do next.

smash: that sounded so news-reporter-like that I loved your comment <3<3 :D.
decipher: how about the solo2 version:

What i need to watch this 64k ?
I have a Laptop here... Intel Core Duo T5450 2x 1.6Ghz , NVidia Geforce 8400M GT, 2GB Ram and the Demo runs extremly slow... :-(

nice!
Great visuals and music, main problem is still direction which is still a bit rigid, maybe now that cryptics engine is nice techwise, you can concentrate on the themes and design, looks stunning.. concentrate on glue!! :D nice one lads..
Hmm.. Then video please :)
Some of the color choises seemed a bit odd to me, but overall it's a nice 64k.
Sweetz0r!
Just saw it from the video. Really nice 64k. Great modelling textures and lighting. The DOF looks nice, but it's a tad too strong for my liking. Music was good too, better than average 64k intro tune imo. Also a lot of detailed content, and it has a nice atmosphere throughout the whole intro with a nice flow that doesn't break at any point. It's a shame it doesn't really have a climax as it just flows nicely thourgh. Overall, really good detailed and good of quality production, one of the best 64ks this year.
Looks stunning on YouTube. I'll watch realtime sometime soon for a better idea :)
Nice one, especially the textures made me forget that I was watching a 64k. The tools seem to be capable of much more though: looking forward to see your next production...
Not bad at all, but I didn't like the music, and the fact that the logo stops entirely at 00:40 annoys the crap out of me. :)
Really good looking textures and meshes but overall it left me without any special feelings. For me I guess the problem is that there just isn't really anything happening... Looking forward to see your future prods though
nice, lots of work involved, a bit random/eclectic though (or maybe i just don't understand the story :)
Jesus Christ! The modelling and texture work here is better than most 20mb+ demos around today. I was truly amazed that you could come up with something so detailed and epic in 64k.
I really liked the music, but it was glitching like crazy.
Great work, but I'll also echo what Smash said.

Watched the video, i can't wait to get home and see this in real-time.
Very good modelling and textures. I found the snare's sound a bit strange.

Very nice, bit too glowy and blurry maybe, but lots of fun :)
what Gargaj said.
Nice to see a new group entering the top league. It was beautiful for the eyes and it was cool.
The intro rules, but does it has to need so many rams? :(
i'm well aware of the amount of effort and all that - but this just doesnt do much for me.
beautiful :)
Good
Great effort.
Good to see it finished! Well done lads! Really looking forward to more Approximate stuff!
Sweeeeeeeeet!
I propably saw you guys doing this intro during Assembly.
Great demo. Well done!
Great demo. Well done!
cool
Hello, this is OSSOM.
Some ruling textures in here and some nice soft shadows too! I love the piano
I was about to mention steampunk, but (ra-ra-ra-)boomt(-ay) beat me to it.
Really nice demo, good stuff.
Really nice demo, good stuff.
ok after seeing it as video i can give my vote here :) nicely done... only sad, that it doesn't work on slower graphic cards... ;)
:)
Not my favourite 64k of the year so far, but pretty damn good otherwise.
Improve your direction skills to the same level as your coding skills and there will be quite a few awesome 64ks ahead!
I second that. Still a good intro.
(((thumb)))
Very nice Graphics. I like the style.
Awesome. Awesome to the max.
All is great except the camera movements.
Didn't work on my machine. XP 64-bit, AMD Phenom II 810 Quad, Radeon 4890, 4gig ram.
The video shows its a thumb up though!
The video shows its a thumb up though!
Forgot to mention: It exits while loading the meshes without any error messages.
that was awesome.. very jules verne'ish :)
Well, look at that! Impressive 3D object design, put into well-designed scenes and all that in a mere 64kB! I like it!
good work
really neat show
Scenes (many of them with good picked colours and nice FOV effects) are glued together without any deeper reason. Music is dull and mediocre.
Still there are some nice modelling so i give you a motivating thumb up.

ohh, noes, forgot the promised thumb
ok
Not bad. I couldn't watch it at my native fullscreen 1280x1024. It gets loaded and crashes back to desktop. I had to watch it in 1152x864 in a window. :(
MeteoriK: It seems like it exits without completing the loading on higher resolutions than 1440x900, regardless of aspect ratio and window/fullscreen mode. Here's a screenshot for you, it's about here it exits:
Wow
doesnt work on 7 :(
i like it! a bit slow though. and the framerate is kinda unsteady.
Nice show.
Wow, excellent! Really fantastic experience.
its a bit weird, but its not bad at all!
Worked well in full resolution here (1920x1200), but I particularly disliked the depth of field blur, seemed either badly focused, or just bad looking in most places.
Perhaps due to the very high res ?
Appart that, I love the theme, the variation in models; plenty of good ideas, and nice and warm color scheme.

very nice
+1 for the ideas
-1 for the lack of faith in the latter.

most of this didn't touch me at all. dunno. the earth-like sphere hit by sparks was cool though.
It's 64k, but too uninteresting for me.
very nice meshes and shaders, but unfortunately it just feels like a classic cam fly-by..
nicey
at first i was like "not my taste" but then i was like "omfg"
Nice style and music, interesting content.
a bit slow-paced, but superb engine !
moar plz !

indeed
FUMS UP
demo in 64k - the eye scene is best
Wow, awesome visuals. Music is abit weak though.
awesome visuals indeed.
Great
This was lovely. =) The first half had a bit of a Stargate feeling to it. I also loved those butterflies.
Very very enjoyable :) too bad i discovered that gem so late, awesome scenes and beautiful tunes... made my evening more better :)
Very nice final, runs like a charm...
Thx for linux port.
good. also, linux!
What has been said about your textures, mesh and light model on the bright side, and on your music and camera on the down side.
It's good to see a leading group in the 64k land. Looking forward to seeing your next prod!

Everlasting ephemera ;-)
Very high quality 64k intro. It must have been a lot of work!
MeteoriK, have you open-sourced your synth now?

Incredible! All this stuff made on 64k! It's really well did, awesome work!
i missed some (shader) effects in this which would have really a nice touch.
nevertheless very impressive modelling and all in 64kb!
no way not to thumb it up.

obviously i missed a word up there.
Very nice!
Has some appeals in certain places visually. But I have to thumb it down for the music and the "look at us" we're trying to tell some boring story. Embrace your medium...
cool, why havent I thumbed this earlier?
effort
great for 64k.
Original and nice. What gloom said, too.
And no direction, which is a pity.

Nice.
good 64k
Great!
nice
How could i miss this one?!
I would not mind if this whole demo was only about that absolutely beautiful shock ball. What a cool scene, wow!
