• I remember seeing it at the time, and finding the text on water effect pretty damn cool. The colourscheme kind of let it down though.

• I really like the music (except the Benny Hill bit) and some of the effects, such as the occluded dots, or the Atari logo on the 3d cube. And I do like the idea of better sound for the fpga/emu version.
  
  But, given the title "a coder's guide to the demoscene", like others I have a problem with the streamed precalc. Coders' spirit in the days of the Atari ST was optimize to the max, and if you have to precalculate, at least do it on the machine itself. Streaming feels like cheating to me. If you had called it "An artist's guide to the demoscene", I would have had a different reaction.
  
  FWIW, I also didn't like the story, or this particular AI generated art, but that's not the key issue.
  
  So I'm really in two minds about this demo. If the scale were Rulez, Good, OK, Meh, Sucks, I'd probably choose Good, but I definitely don't think it rules.

• Funnily enough I like this one the most of the SillyVenture series I've seen so far, mostly for the scroll text! I hope the thumbs up won't mess it up! :-)

• This is absolutely fucking great!!! and it finally solves for me a nagging feeling I was missing something.
  
  A very very long time ago when I first managed to make a lower border overscan, I had yet to understand that I needed to change the screen address to have more RAM. I noticed that if ran more iterations of my code I could get rid of that "nasty changing pattern at the bottom of the screen" and get straight lines (NOPs). Eventually I figured out I needed to change the screen address, and I never went back to it.
  
  But yes, this makes total sense, and should let one do all sorts of "impossible" cool things. Ok only in 2 planes, but still, that's a lot. I finally know how to do an effect that I've been thinking of for years on an Atari ST. It has been nagging at me for so very long, which suggests I had the intuition it was possible, but never figured it out.
  
  MOST EXCELLENT WORK! You should have won hands down. This is a great technical step forwards!

• Nice! I particularly enjoyed the music, the ST-CNX logo ( ;-) ), like Tom, the vertical scroll between demoscreens, and the roto-zoomer. Fun to see all those old names go past. You might want to add Paulo Simoes and Mcoder to the list. They were single-men "groups" in that AFAIK they never joined a group but released some cool demos nevertheless.

• Nice tune, nice gfx, and fun to read scroll text! Nice demo Fury! Fascinating write up about the protection Orion. Interesting to know that either Illegal, Zarathoustra or Redhead also played with the 6301.

  J'ai aussi connu Zarathoustra. Il m'avait montré son Othello fullscreen. Il était en Math Sup ou Math Spé je crois, et je n'étais qu'en Terminale. Il m'a montré les filtres digitaux pour la première fois... que j'ai donc alors à mon tour étudié à l'Université. RIP.
