- demo ZX Spectrum Add Mortem by Arise & Joker [web]
- We are breaking some new grounds here, so we were not even concerned about the size - hence no compression :) The size is just the amount of data we needed for the specific parts.

- I understand the point about divMMC - it's the similar dilemma as on the 8bit Atari, which is solved by boldly saying "1MB extra memory is now standard because otherwise loads break demo flow". That is something the ZX scene has to decide by themselves. In the C64 scene we stick to stock config with the floppy, but we already have there IRQ loading so we are spoiled ;)
Quote:those pesky loading times between scenes are no longer an issue.
Unfortunately that is not the case, as in the real world loading even from the divMMC is far from instantaneous. And they are carefully taken into account in this demo.
Quote:Or is this the "Does the Spectrum scene need to be divided" discussion all over again?
You can just have separate categories in the demo compo - that's a bit easier than dividing the scene ;) - isokadded on the 2025-04-16 15:34:12

The demo is almost half a mega, and uses divMMC. Would I be wrong to guess it's mostly animation then?
Using simple mathematics: the TAP file is 477kB and the data inside is mostly uncompressed (use any binary viewer to see loooong strings of same byte etc, or notice it packs to 50% of it's size under simple ZIP). ZX has no text mode, so 1 frame is 6,75kB. So the raw data is ~71 frames. That's 1+ second of playback :) - isokadded on the 2025-04-16 10:46:01

its animations.
Oswald, there are also realtime (even by your limited definition of that term) effects in this demo, so please stop lying to people. Thanks. - rulezadded on the 2024-09-13 09:34:34

I actually probably would've left out the animated parts (they look ugly to be honest due to too many compression artifacts) but I understand these were probably meant as a dig at Arise.
No Edhellon, they were unironically done by Luke/Elysium. - isokadded on the 2024-09-01 23:29:39

- This is kinda hermetic if you don't follow the csdb discussion that is connected to it, I would not upload it here, it's an internal joke really... but what can you do.

More than just simply that, it's like a bilateral reflection. Like a mirror of the word. Hence the 2 for the S.
Close, but not quite. ESIRA is ARISE backwards, correct. But also, this is a series of demos. There was an ES1RA (with one instead of "i") in 2017. And this one is second in the series, so... E2IRA :) - isokadded on the 2022-06-16 16:53:22
