- demo Amiga OCS/ECS Flame by New Generation Crew
- Has to be a record-holding OCS prod for the longest singing voice. I am a sucker for boundary-pushing prods. Very creative. Trackloading IMHO is the lost art that the new generation of sceners is trying to revive. It's going to be tough to approach something like the Sanity Operating System (https://aminet.net/package/dev/asm/SanityOperationSystem).. or even the trackloader in Desert Dream (works on all machines, detects floppy swaps and will load off of an external drive)

- Now works on A500 with a floppy, I have no real explanation why. There'a a daemon in the trackloading code here, anyway, as I said, love how much this prod pushes the OCS platform

- Now for a technical question:
Did anyone succeed in runnning this on a real Amiga 500 with a floppy drive?
The only way I could get it to work is to use a brand new Gotek with an AT32F435 and run the ADF from it.
No matter what I did, I could not get it to run on (brand new) Nashua DD floppies or an older Gotek. Tested on an Amiga 500 and an Amiga 1200. Both worked once I figured out that the ADF here needed a new-ish Gotek (at least for me). Older Gotek's would crash on random parts and floppies would not pass the bootsector no matter what I did (red or cyan screen).
Seems like the trackloader is really picky. I tried both X-Copy and Retrogiovedi's WAFFLE to image the disk. Even with the most conservative settings, multiple erases, precompensation, the adf here would not run even for a second from a real floppy. - isokadded on the 2024-10-08 16:12:11

- Pellicus and gigabates, some of my favorite coders uniting for an envelope-pushing prod! I am a coder, so I loved it that steffest absolutely made sure we know every scan was as 4096 color as it can be, and Mace's music reminded me so much of parts of Speed by Sim Productions

- So awesome to see KONEY code and release his very original 40k intro. Love seeing the EAB crowd here :)

- Here's why these guys rule:
The single frame 288x288 3bpl rotator.
So far IMHO this is the best rotator by far on an Amiga 500 and even successfully fakes a bit of zooming. For the first time, I have finally seen someone beat Mr. Pet's Turmoil rotator.
For those that haven't seen this before, there's a variant of rotation that can be coded efficiently on an Amiga 500, invented by the late Alan Paeth in 1986. Here's a great summary of such rotations by late Mike Morton (who contributed his share of potential planar Amiga 500 effects if you dig deep): https://archive.gamedev.net/archive/reference/articles/article811.html - rulezadded on the 2024-04-04 09:02:26

- I am just going to say that it makes me incredibly happy that this absolutely amazing music is from some custom codec that these sceners wrote just for this prod. You should have been there live, the music shook the room.
Also(!) coding wise the Z-sine scroller is hard to do on A500 and not a rinse-repeat of a well known effect. And why does wireframe on stock Amigas look so good.
The theme is so old school it really brings me back to the 1990-1992 era.. 100% - rulezadded on the 2024-04-04 08:46:44

- I have a policy of upvoting every prod with strong/new code that I get around to reviewing. New compression codec on an OCS Amiga? Huge thumbs up.
I also like upvoting code that is not readily available for scener copypasta or that has been discussed to death for literally 2-3 decades. A majority of prods do incremental improvements on well known effects that you can not only nowadays easily find how-to tutorials, but also get full BSD/PD source code on GitHub for the platform of your choice.
Nowadays, PMC's Alpha and Omega, Cryptoburner's The Hunt for 7th October or Sim Production's Speed would probably get downvoted to death. Oh animation, oh why so long blah blah.
The scene crowd used to be different at the time, with a lot more people closer to the platform and understanding how hard something is to get working right on a stock Amiga 500. - rulezadded on the 2024-04-04 08:37:38
