• fizzer: You can see the shadertoy for details but the effect is basically brute force with a depth range controlled based on the scene.
  
  I also experimented with multisampling view rays by dividing the depth samples between the view samples but that seemed to scale terribly. In the end, I ended up just using a bad hat function in post, which kind of ties in with the whole "noisy effect and film grain" -thing :D
