• The ugly purple flashing window is probably coming from the debug D3D runtime. The debug runtime clears the back buffer to an ugly color when you use the DISCARD swap effect. When using DISCARD, you should touch every pixel of the back buffer before presenting it for display. This tells me that they didn't use the debug runtime during development, which probably means there are other bugs lurking in there as well.
