- Oh, and when I read the discussion about bitrate I couldn't help thinking "heh, they should use Ogg Vorbis instead" :)
Or MO3, or softsynthesis. Can't argue with the points about size, although it doesn't bother me as much. - isokadded on the 2002-11-12 06:38:23

- Let's begin by quoting good old Webster 1913.
- - -
Ab"stract` [L. abstractus, p. p. of abstrahere to draw from, separate; ab, abs + trahere to draw. See Trace.]
2.
Considered apart from any application to a particular object; separated from matter; exiting in the mind only; as, abstract truth, abstract numbers. Hence: ideal; abstruse; difficult.

And that is exactly what abstract art is. Pure shapes and colours, with very little semiotics involved, if any at all. Stimuli, without any strict meaning, just for the sake of stimuli.
And yet you keep talking about "understanding" this type of stuff.
This isn't something you understand - this is something you perceive. If you try to "understand" this you're not very likely to "get" this at all - even if you claim to.
You attack this for its lack of message, for its apparent emptiness. You then proceed to attack the people who disagree with you, since surely they MUST be pretentious. Pretty much the same thing as hearing a monotone techno track and complaining: "There's no melody! There should be a melody, there's always been a melody. I think they just want you to BELIEVE there's a melody! What fools you are!"
Not that I'm naive enough to believe that there aren't people out there who are just taking the opportunity to indulge in some pseudointellectual elitism. "Look at me! I understand this!"
And, as I suspected from the moment I read the very first comments, the dreaded "clearly you don't understand art" has popped up here as well.
YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS. You either get it or you don't. Your loss if you don't. Neither makes you any better or worse though. It's only when you take up arms to attack or defend something that isn't even there that you start appearing, to put it bluntly, moronic.
End of rant.
No thumb yet, I'll need to watch this a couple of more times before I decide whether I want to give one. Surely fascinating on the first viewing - that "wind pushing the desert sand" isn't as far fetched as you might like to think - however, I feel that I need to find out whether the impact remains on consecutive viewings. - isokadded on the 2002-11-12 06:34:41

- Anyone noticed slight similarities between places 6 and 7 in the wilddemo charts? :)
That single mishap apart, cool charts. Glad to see it finally released. - rulezadded on the 2002-08-21 18:20:20

- tAAt in the top-10, never thought I'd see the day ;) Not that this game doesn't deserve it for the sheer bizarreness of the idea alone :)

- Ah, good, just wanted to get that clear. If that is the case then I don't really have any problems with this.
And now I'll stop flooding the latest comments box. :) - isokadded on the 2002-08-07 16:53:05

- I just watched it. Now I really REALLY regret deciding to go to sleep instead of watching the compo.

- demo Windows Mother, Mother my ears bleed by mfx [web]
- Extremely disjointed and noisy, both the audio and the visuals. Interesting to see traces of what at least seems like more "traditional" demo effects under all those layers of garbling and distortion.
Now I only wish that I'd seen the original, it wouldn't work when I last tried it and now I can't even find it anywhere.. - rulezadded on the 2002-08-07 15:04:05

- Well, maybe it's just me but it's suspicious to see some of the same people who have explained this demo and the making of it here give consecutive negative comments over there, using similar terms, making similar points.
I'm not the kind of person who would attack someone for just disliking something or who would even condone such behaviour, but all those comments just seem like the result of a mutual decision to me. - isokadded on the 2002-08-07 14:36:14

- Random, you keep defending the prod - which is OK by me because I don't believe parodies are necessarily displays of disrespect, and the demo wasn't even exactly _bad_, and Crud's musical output is good as usual.
However, I don't think that it's exactly the prod that you have received (and will continue to receive) a lot of the dissing for. I'm sorry, but joke or not, that Liquid Wen downvote flood was simply LAME. - isokadded on the 2002-08-07 12:55:39
