- demo Amiga AGA Kilofix by Illi Recentes ImperatoreS
- Heh. THANK YOU. There ARE 2D effects in Kilofix. Also shitloads of 2D graphics.
Anyway, even a straightforward 3D flyby is really tricky stuff on the Amiga. All software rendering, you know. - isokadded on the 2006-05-15 23:58:26

- The A1200 S-Video hack
There are also PAL-RGB -> S-video converter boxes. I think they exist in the UK because of some old Sky decoder that had RGB outputs. Apart from that they're probably really rare.
Third alternative would be one of those fancy video scalers with lots of inputs&outputs. Probably expensive. - isokadded on the 2006-05-15 23:41:28

- loady: About the monitor problem, you might consider getting an LCD monitor with s-video input (they exist, e.g. Dell 2000FP- something). A1200 can be easily modified for s-video output.
I have a 20" Dell thingy with DVI connection for the PC, s-video for the Amiga, composite for cable TV via a VCR, and a spare VGA connector for whatever. It saves a lot of space on my desk and it looks pretty too.
Ideal for making your boring slow Amiga flyby shit. ;) - isokadded on the 2006-05-10 13:43:46

- Demo looks stunning, but also slow. Framerate-wise, I mean. So it's really hard to judge whether the code is impressive or not. We need more demos using similar techniques so we have some way to judge this. So make more. ;)
The graphics and modelling are really, really nice at any rate. And obviously a huge effort in piecing everything together.
I agree with everyone that the pace is too slow and it could use some "surprises" here and there. And I guess you should've spent time on texture accuracy rather than stuff that gets overshadowed by bad texturemapping. But still, demo should've won. Demo didn't. I feel bad. - rulezadded on the 2006-05-10 01:16:10

- Shane: Low-poly is relative, you know. ;)
I'm not proud of the use of 3D. Having no 3D graphician available I had to do all that myself in 3DS, which I've never even tried before. Animation is HARD, i tell you. In the end I think it's not completely out of taste, but I'll do better next time.
The code is another matter. It's not "just" a fly-by. It's extremely high-poly in Amiga terms, considering the framerate, and although the rendering is straightforward perspective texturemapping, it uses a lot of novel techniques for data management, which is why it's fast.
About the UAE problems: yeah, try to adjust frameskip etc. UAE will have to match 060 speed constantly which apparently it sometimes can't. Also, if you get flickering, I don't care. I spent so many hours trying to work out why it does that in UAE sometimes. In the end I had to conclude that UAE's raster simulation is fucked up. I already made a lot of sacrifices because of UAE's faulty FPU emulation, and I'm fed up. If nothing helps, watch the video capture.
For real Amiga problems, I can only repeat that it's an 060 demo. I'm sorry and I might release an 040 version with reduced music quality etc., but I'd also much rather focus on the next demo.
If it won't run on your 060, try a clean boot without all kinds of junk like oxypatcher etc., installed. Just setpatch.
I'd thumb myself up (why, for the bubbles, of course) but ultimately Ephidrena should've won. - isokadded on the 2006-04-25 10:10:47
