History of movetable effects
category: general [glöplog]
Everyone who was watching demos in the mid-nineties knows that the classic texture offset/movetable effects were practically in every single demo (and some demos had nothing else...). I also remember being introduced to the code side by a tutorial by Snowman/Valhalla (?) in a 1995 (?) issue of PC Format and once I got my own distorted tunnel fx running, I was proud as hell. I'm kind of curious though... who invented them in the first place and where is the earliest example?
early 90s i'd say. i still love bitmapfx.
Preacher: i remember Snowman's tutorial as well. good times :) who invented it, i am not sure. it would have been cool to find out these kinds of things. i allready made a doc containing all (or atleast most of) the demo-fx from the demoscene before hardware rendered fx. here
Preacher: I also remember that tutorial :)
Was not this a movetable effect ? Arte by Sanity (1993)
There are probably earlier examples, I guess. (?!)
Amen to that!

also that list would be inspirational for oldschool platform effects. if anyone is out of ideas :P
Anyone got that Snowman/Valhalla article?
