So, it seems you can't simply ship the runtime c-dll's anymore - you sorta need to make an installer to register dll's with "Windows side-by-side" (SxS). Apparently there's a workaround, using .manifest-files, but my initial tests using these failed. Has anyone tried this and succeeded?

yes, they call it msvcrt.dll ;)
