Help a researcher at Evoke
category: parties [glöplog]
Are YOU an active demoscener and going to Evoke? will you probably work on something at Evoke together with one or more group mates? Then I would like to study you!
I am an academic on top of organizing the TRSAC demoparty in Denmark - my speciality is creativity in it design processes, which means that I look into how people go from an initial idea or vision to a finished product. You can read more about our project here: http://cavi.au.dk/research-areas/cibis-creativity-in-blended-interaction-spaces/
What I would like to do at Evoke, is to be allowed to hang out at your table and record as much of your work as possible. I am interested in the creative process - recordings will be video/audio, pictures, and my own notes. After going home I will do a qualitative analysis of your work. My interest is mainly in how your different tools, digital and physical, structure and help your work and collaboration with group members in creating a demoscene production.
Ethics: I will happily share all the recorded stuff with you. You will not be used in identifiable form unless you agree specifically to this. I will refer to you as ie. "the coder of a demoscene group" or similar. After writing up my analysis I will send it to you, and you can object to any factual errors.
Interested in helping academia, spreading attention, gaining a friend for life and a bunch of drinks/beers/sodas/bratwursts? Throw a message here, on facebook https://www.facebook.com/nbhansen or on [email protected]

You want to study people? You are looking for volunteers who want to act as laboratory mice?
Wow! Weren't you the guy who once said that I have no clue how the world we are living in works?

Adok:your ability to carry a grudge exceeds ability to remember. I might have and in that case I apologize if I was wrong.
However studying something someone is doing anyway is the exact opposite of a laboratory mouse - I would prefer people carry on and do as they would do anyway. You could make the case that I want to study wild mice, going about their mouse-business albeit with a slight wonder at why that guy there is recording their mousery. That is all part of qualitative method, which is not typically an approach that utilises laboratories much :)

... exceeds MY ability to remember. Not yours.
OK, you are right. You are a human ethologist then. :)
SAVE THE MICE AND CODE MORE DEMOS
BE A MICE AND CODE MOAR DEMOS
action research is very hot in social sciences currently! too bad it's all baloney!
I thought Mice is a musician, not a coder!
If you reserve me some place to the next place to the door to the outback (the door to where outside-action, like "Grillieren 3.0 without Drago but us all" takes place!) i will have the position i want, my Monitor will be visible from outside and i will be your StudyObject for no other reasons, than my own ones anyway! ;)
(Gotta work on Friday, naturally, will arrive late, as in 18h+, so just reserve that one SHEAT already! :p )
Only bad side here would be: everyone outside would see the winner-prod of the Demo-Competition beforehand (in parts!) :(
But i am all in, handle me like some mammal, you want to know more about! ;)
[email protected] ([email protected] normally, but we are reworking this right now!)

The world works because there is a giant turtle on which the world resides.
i agree with Adok. If it isn't a double-blinded RCT then it isn't real research!
