I forgot how much i loved that video, thanks for bringing up doskpop, so i remembered this. Wow that was one of those magical flashbacks to my innocent youth, with a white background and pictures of memories flowing slowly by in a gentle white hypnoglow, most of them revolving around amigas and other guys tho =/, so now i feel all warm and fuzzy and wants to wrap myself up in my old The Party tshirts and lay in featus position.

Overuse of samples.
Err. Could you please explain to me how you track tunes without using samples?

Iblis: cool effects too. And of course just about anything by Jan Hammer is ace.
Iblis: You're still using samples, just not your own (which kinda makes it even worse :)
Elsewhere: I used to love the "..to the mind's eye"-series. I keep telling people that many ASD-demos remind me of the series, but then they just go .. huh..?

Yup, no doubt that this vid, and Jan in particular has inspired many an aspiring scener, and properbly still is.
Gloom, hehe true. But i think that was the point, that everybody nicked eachothers samples, so the leads used by lizardking was just plastered all over the place in the category.

excellent. :)
The Öppna Kanalen tv-station in Gothenburg = Dosk heaven
gloom: what tft meant with "overuse of samples" is that he used the same samples over and over again. Not samples in general. ;)

The natural (offtopic) reply would be that 1998 called to ask if it can have Buzz back.
And Axel has leading.
Axel: TFT needs to construct proper sentences then. :)
You'll have to excuse tft. He's obviously newskool (I'm not oldskool either, but...) since he dislikes the re-using of samples. It was VERY common back then and does not automatically mean that the songs containing ripped samples are bad - by far.
I mean, perform a count of the mods that included samples from ST-00 to ST-fuckingAye and look me in the eye and tell me that there are no gems among those...
And yes, I am sure that's probably not what tft meant... ;)

hi Nutman, I fully agree. Problem was most tracks using re-used samples were immediately disrespected. I caught myself doing the same thinking, thinking a tune was lame because it had samples I heard too many times in other tracks, no matter how good the tune was from a composition point of view. Some tracks survived despite the snobbish attitude of people like me. Many examples come to mind. 4-Mat's "World of love" using all of Bruno's samples from "Stor Och Liten", 4-Mat's "Hardcore ("Dream Again")" track using samples from Bruno's "Synnissa Kypsynyt", and tons more.
So absolutely, some tracks stood out. And countless tracks were made with such samples that lacked quality. But yeah it was common and almost impossible NOT to use any samples from anyone else. But using the melody instrument from the most known songs like "Cream of the Earth" was a big no-no. :)
And Nutman, we gotta have a beer at BP.

Just one?
yall knew what I meant. My engrish sux. Lack of braincells.
Im not in the habit of bashing musicans from the Amigascene, but in my opinion Lizardking was WAAAY overrated. And seeing him in charts even today makes me ill. Atleast when you think of all the talent there is of composers out there(oldskool,"newskool" and present)
How would one btw define Oldskool? Niggas gettin up in the 80ies?
Axel: STOR OCH LITEN - the ultimate porno mod :)
RIP BRUNO!

Just face it - lizard king is one of the most popular musicians from the demoscene ever. Most demosceners loves his music and a litte group thinks he's terribly overrated - from them I never heard anything decent.
Probably the ones that say it's music suck are's only suckin' lamers.
Sry for my poor English, but I have my head away today... :S

That's quite a statement.
I have 2 files quite equal on my mod collection... The song is "A piece of Magic" and the sample-text generally says "If you use this tune for your demos you're a suckin lamer"... and in another one I've seen "Ripped this tune..."..."strange". Almost confused :S
