Mini Tridi Demo by Overlanders [web]
Mini Tridi Demo by Overlanders release information. Released for LoveByte.Party on the 10 February 2022 Credits ------- - Main code: Mr Bee - Sound code: Ben - Sound advisor: Jess - Demo name: RATI (which is a wink to another Overlanders demo ;-)) - Support: RATI & Janek Features -------- - flat 3D cube with OVR letters and sound - 4 bit planes filled 3D - proper back-face culling (no Glenz cheating :-), see [1]) - 16 vertices, 9 quad faces, 1 triangle face (forming OVR letters) - 3D rotations and z zooming animation - vertical distortion - 3 voices buzz sound synchronized with the animation - should be compatible with all Atari ST, TT, etc. - timed animation - frame rate varies between 4-6 frames on ST - frame rate should be at the frame on TT and maybe Falcon Files ----- - FILE_ID.DIZ: Release info for LoveByte.Party - FILE_ID.TXT: Copy of FILE_ID.DIZ which can be opened on Atari - RELEASE.NFO: Information about this release (this file!) - RELEASE.TXT: Copy of RELEASE.NFO which can be opened on Atari - MTD_OVR.PRG: LoveByte.Party 512 bytes version - must be run from low resolution - no possible exit - MTD_OVRX.PRG: Wrapped with system save/restore - can be run from low/mid resolution - can exit with space (wrapped with more code than necessary but time pressure...) - MTD_OVRW.PRG: A program which writes the boot sector version to a floppy disk inserted in the disk A - MTD_OVR.BIN: 480 bytes boot sector version - the boot sector does not change the background color as there was not enough space to save it and restore it, this requires a bit more space and the 512 bytes does not exit so there is no need to do that in that version - MTD_OVR.ST: A floppy disk image with all the files above and the demo on the boot sector (except for MTD_OVR.MP4) - MTD_OVR.PNG: A screenshot for the LoveByte.Party submission - MTD_OVR.MP4: A 30 seconds video for the LoveByte.Party submission (not on the MTD_OVR.ST, it does not fit) History ------- Version 1.0 - 1995: I wrote the first version of this boot in summer 1995, but I never released it! Version 1.1 - 2000: In 2000 when going to the STNICCC (see [2]) I thought I could release it there. We optimized it a bit more with Ben and some other members of Overlanders and managed to add some sound and change the color palette. It finished in 4th position at the party (see [3]). Version 1.2 - 2022 (this release): While attending the Silly Venture 2021 winter edition, I was discussing with RATI and Janek, and I was telling them about this boot sector and they suggested that I could improve it with a vertical dist! I then thought the LoveByte.Party would be a good time to release this new version. I optimized the code a bit more so I could fit the vertical dist. I initially wanted a better dist effect but could definitely not fit it! Ben has redone the sound and added a sound effect synchronized with the animation. Version 1.0 and 1.1 had 68030 detection and cache activation but I had to remove it from this version to fit the sound buzz. Therefore just relying on the extra speed given on machines with this processor. And here we go, this is the new version. There is always more that could be done of course, but well, enough for this time... Greetings --------- To all demosceners (all platforms), thanks everybody for your hard-work, for all the entertaining productions, for the spirit, the good times and for keeping the demoscene alive.
