Some cool 3d and effects in this. The stealth twister rules!

Best Nah-Kolor production in years imo. Welcome back on the Amiga, Drareg.

Love it!! I think there are places in the demo where they could calm down a little and take advantage of the nice effects. Very cool that it is a 030 16MB demo. Long time since a AGA demo did not require 060.
Please do more 030 demos Nah-Kolor :D

Yep, finally someone gives a bit love to those 030´s. Top notch prod.

Really nice demo, great to see more 030-demos in 2020, just like Draregs masterpiece Smokebomb(Ozone) from 1999!

Indeed very nice production, it could be slowed down abit too let us read and enjoy the effects before moving to next though.. 030 feeling and very nice 90s atmosphere.. Respect for this one !!

Great to see Drar3g back in action. With less graphicians around it would have been a better balanced prodution I think. Can't say much good about the music, it wasn't really my cup of tea.
rulez added on the 2020-04-14 11:49:43 by teo teo
Music is completely not my cup of tea but other than that this is not a bad demo, even though the main part is a mixed bag and feels a bit like "just reuse some code/effects from the mid/end 90s", but there's enough new content as well. The end part is really nice!

And yes, welcome back Drareg, nice to see you back on Amiga. :)
added on the 2020-04-14 11:58:05 by StingRay StingRay
Too bad you lost some of the sources. A few effects were definitely a little too mid-90s like the bump rotozoomer and tunnel. Plenty of good graphics. Music wasn't bad but somehow a bit annoying... Nice seeing support for 030. Looking forward to more!

With that list of big names, I was pretty disappointed when I saw it the first time in the compo. Second time around however it grew on me, and when reading the text displayed after the Demo I had to thumb it up. Bad luck Drareg, hope you are able to recreate the routines you lost and blow us away in your next demo!

Really liked the 2nd part. Looked nice!

Nice effects and rich variety, but that stupid flashing... Why??? It totally ruins the experience. Who in their right mind would think that flashing is a good thing anywhere, in any form of art? So piggy because of that.

Cool to see Drareg again on Amiga. It's probably the best Nah-Kolor demo for many years. Some cool effects and synchro. The gfx is nice, but such a LARGE number of artists reduce the total consistency of the graphics / design in my opinion.

Sorry but, although I am glad to see Drareg back in business, I don't think this is a good demo. In fact it's even a bad one. I see people here complaining about the lack of coherency and they mistakely atribute it to the long list of designers that are involved in the demo. Sadly, is not for the apparently capricious design choices that I declare this demo is so bad. I have my proverbial three reasons (beware, none of them are technical reasons even if the first one could superficially resemble it) to say this and here they go.

First, the tremendous pile of necrocode stinks so hard that I can barely understand how such a hybrid pastiche of aged routines has managed to reach third place at Revision party. It is a bit comical to me read that the demo was developed in a 030 and so it runs quite well in one. How convenient is that as all this old code came from the late nineties!

Second, even if the code were 150% recycled (and age-old) I would forgive that minor sin if the rest of the material were fresh. But, as even admits (after a lame excuse) the text message displayed right after the demo ends, there are tons of assets that have being reused. The problem comes even worse when more than three or four of the people included in that ridiculously long credit list came aware that they colaborated in this prod the moment they saw the live videostream or even later... when someone congrats them for the great work done... Done ten or twenty years before, dammit!

And third, I'm not sure if all the people who appears in that long credit list were properly asked about their permission to use all the material that was reused in this demo. I would like to be mistaken but I have the stark feeling that I am right. I would feel very embarrassed if I were a member of Nah-Kolor and the coder of this demo did not ask me if I could supply new material for the old effects. I mean fonts, textures, 3D objects, etc. Nah-Kolor is a group with considerable number of talented people including some great graphicians that surely would help to make this demo look original if they were asked by the coder. Why don't get recent 3D objects instead of reuse that bunch of masks from Fetish or cubes from Proklive or hearts from Fetish 2? How much time will expend a talented graphician modeling new props for this demo? You really need to reuse that heart with the spiky thingies that appears at the end credits of Fetish 2 and put it around that Nah-Kolor logo instead of asking someone for a new 3D object? By the way, that object was modeled by Sandman if I am not mistaken and I don't see him in the long credit list of this demo. Please, notice that Sandman is not a member of Nah-Kolor. Also, Proklive and the two Fetish prods are not Nah-Kolor prods. Again, I need to clarify that I am not reproaching nor dissaproving the reuse of old material per se (a sin that everybody can commit sometimes in the rush of an impeding deadline) but I dislike the use of material from other demos from different groups and from people that are not credited or credited without knowing they were being "ripped". No rush can justify that foolish and lame thing.

Apologies if I am being too rash. I really don't like to be too hard with people. I know that there are some graphics and music in this demo that have been made recently and I mean no disrespect to any Nah-Kolor member including Drareg. But I probably am just a nosy nitpicker jerk so I can't turn my eyes away when I see material shamelessly ripped from other prods while everybody in the room remain silent or clapping. Sorry again but I can't approve this demo. Hopefully next one will be better.

What Ham says. For my part, I can tell that this demo is necrophilia, some assets are from 2002, I thought they were forgotten and buried, but no, Magic had to make another trashdemo. The only good thing about it is that nothing of my stuff is there, fortunately, Magic has already used everything before. Magic, please, stop forcing people to do these demos because I know it was your hand that directed it, the way it looks is the best proof.

I am with Ham, Dan, and Rork on this one. Although I like many particular bits in this demo, and I welcome your effort to release it, esp. in this difficult times, it just feels too much like a goulash to me.

Hello all..
I agree with everything Ham says...
I don't think it's anything legitimate, taking objects, routines, textures, assets, or whatever, from people in other groups or even from the same group, without even asking for approval, and putting some of these authors in the credits just because, and without these authors knowing anything about it.
Each author will know if he wants to be part of a production or not.. and be able to decide about it.
Maybe I'm wrong but, in my opinion, a demoscene group is a group of people who do things in a friendly way, as a TEAM, and with the only effort of doing something good, new, etc... each one contributes with their part, but the authorship of each thing remains with each author.
In my opinion it is something very ugly that this happens, why do this?
In my case, I can say that indeed I am the one who modelled that object for the Fetish 2, but that was a team work not just me, there is more graphicians involved, and it is not that I care that someone can take advantage of something that I have done, I think it is great, but... this cannot be done without asking the consent. And in my case, I probably wouldn't have given it to him for many other reasons.
Besides it, we are talking from another demoscene group assets, it's a little ugly.. why not ask for new models, new textures, assets etc...? in any case, and the most important, when reusing things, always by asking for permission. For example I could give permission, but not wanted to be on the credits maybe..
On the other hand, if we look at the rules of most contests in any subject, surely this would inflict more than one of those rules..
I would find it quite sad if Drareg could not understand this.
I have to say, after all this happened, he wrote to me, and he apologized for not including me in the credits, but this is not the point, the point is, he should have asked permission before.
I hope that for the next production he will choose more ethical ways.
Health, love and peace for all, everyone! :)

In this case, I would like to retroactively change my 90s nostalgia-driven thumb to point downwards in the most scornful way possible.

Great Demo, feels like 90's ;)
Another proof that 060 is not needed for a good production.
Unfortunatelly on my 030 demo crashes on the last part.
Some guys also confirm this.
Any ideas ?

ok, I think this deserves now an explanation:

1) all code is all mine (except c2p and p61 player). Yes, the code is not 100% new as I explained in the readme.
2) Only very few assets were Ozone assets, and I used them because I am the only Ozone active member, and they were used in my other demos in the past. Not ripped from any other production, group or member.
4) It is 10 years that I didnt code anything, and I decide to code something because I felt motivated to do it
5) I believe Demoscene means friendship, means creativity. I am around 45 years old. Too old to enter in childish fights. This is not a business, it is just a hobby.

For more clarification here is the list of assets that were from my vault:
- 3d heart model (sandman)
- 3d cube (Xevious)
- mask model (xevious)
- 2 phong textures (god and leunam)
- big font (leunam)

The assets of the "sceners" that are complaining, are two:
3D Heart model and 1 phong texture. (Sandman and God)

The other assets: 3D Cube, TV face mask, one phong texture (that never was used before but it was done 20 years ago by Leunam) and the big font, are from sceners that were super happy to see that I came back and I used them.

BTW, no one realised that the TV face mask (done by Xevious) was released in Fetish 1 (1999) and then Fetish 2 (2010)!...and of course nobody complained back then ;)

The rest of assets used in the demo by others:
- 1 loading screen
- 3 logos
- end logo
- main title screen
- credits background screen
- trees background
- 2 fonts (credits fonts, greetings lyric text)
- 2 modules (main module, greetings module)
- greetings final text
- corona virus scene
- bubble object (made by me)
- gems object
- torus object
- tv textures (actually pictures of my dogs, cats and Magic's cats)
- bumpmapping texture
- sea animals scene
- tunnels and metaballs precalculated

So in summary, Sandman and HAM feedback is because I took from my old productions, two assets of two persons (the 3d heart by Sandman and oone tiny modified phong texture from God) that for some reasons that are not needed to explain here, were impossible to get their permission.

Now, can we be adults? is this the demoscene that I left 10 years ago? seriously?? don't we have more problems in our lives than someone that tries to add some value to our beloved Amiga making a demo, that has used 2 assets from 10 years ago without consent?

In my opinion, the important thing is to be productive, and motivated to create things.

And if you dont like this production, I am happy you voting negatively, but if you want to give feedback, please, do it, but give some constructive feedback.

The rest is childish.

Thanks and apologies for this stupid clarification.

really ? old friends attacking a person for a demo ? on a public site ??? incredible... never seen nothing similar before . maybe other questions outside demoscene are involved here . I hope, Drareg will continue creating demos and forget this
added on the 2020-04-17 22:40:45 by skido skido
@skiddo: There is no bad feelings among Drareg and I, at least for my part. I am not attacking a person as I am a dude quite pacific. I'm just giving an opinion about a damn demo here on pouët and I would say the same if this demo were made from another coder. Demos are quite simple to judge and persons are too complicated and sometimes a mystery.

Quote:
And if you dont like this production, I am happy you voting negatively, but if you want to give feedback, please, do it, but give some constructive feedback.

@Drareg: No. I don't wanna vote negatively to this prod. If I want to vote, then I vote. But I wanted do a full review. That's why I didn't move an easy thumb up or down under a couple of dull lines instead of thinking what to say, how to say it, and then write it.

But why, in the first place, you demand us to give you the kind of feedback you wanna receive? That's a childish demand. Every demo shall receive all types of different opinions here as that's the primary purpose of this page.

Welcome to pouët!

And no, I don't wanna give any "constructive" feedback to stuff like this demo. Even in the hypothetical case that it might have some good parts that weren't attached to what I consider a rotten corpse. That makes me sad because there could be people involved in this demo that did an honest job, unaware that their stuff was attached to assets made for other demos in other groups (perhaps that material would suit a 27 Anniversary Ozone's demo, for instance, but is not good for a Nah-Kolor demo because is not even the same group even if you are a double-member because, and that's my point, others are not).

I hope you find the motivation to do another demo and perhaps I'll praise it if I like it and, above all, if you ask for permissions to all the people involved.

Peace.

It looks like the zip archive has an error, the demo hangs with 030 -> Vampire processors at the same time.

Despite the effort of pulling this one together, the inconsistent use of way too many graphicians in the same demo gives it no direction. And why all this fullscreen flashes?

The gods of recycling are back :) Magic, for fox sake, couldn't you pester people for some actual new content instead of browsing the Internet's ass for any unused graphics you can find? Yet again plenty of cool visuals vomited on screen without any coherence. I'm not even starting with the other one...

Nice entertaining demo I would say. Great to see Drareg back behind the keyboard.

I'm now very curious what the new routines were. Nothing quite as boring as writing the same code over again. At one point I decided to rewrite all my code from scratch in C and throw out the old ASM chaos.. However took me about 3 years to recover from that decision and all I got was slightly slower demos :D

As for the asset reuse I'm fine with a little remixing. I only saw a few of these assets before :D

I'm 40.. or 41?

Concerns expressed by Ham are legitimate. On the other, getting something done after a long break is often a steep hill to climb, especially when you're not young anymore (none of us is Drareg) and people have certain expectations because of your reputation. Returning sceners deserve some grace time before being judged by the same standards as, for example, someone like Ham who has always been active on it. Because we need them and we should motivate them to get back to the level they used to have.
