Obviously it looks very good but I find it really hard to assess productions like this. On the other hand, the production values are massive. On the other hand, it doesn't show anything that I at least would find particularly interesting to watch so my focus lies on the production values themselves and there's the problem. It's done in an engine notable for its fantastic graphical qualities. How much of this demo comes from Unreal itself and how much is done by the demo programmer? I don't know. Therefore, I piggy.

If even democoders themselves can not assess anymore how much coding skill was involved in a production - then how should all the other people in the scene. I feel we are risking to kill the programming aspect from the original idea of what demoscene meant. As a consequence demoscene will become indistinguishable from all the other realtime graphics web communities out there, which mainly focus on design and artistic concepts.

That is correct. 3/4 of the demos in the competition had some 3rd party engine element. Size limit in demo category, like in the old days (crunching to max 50MB lets say) would motivate more or.. the outcome could be in smaller number of productions being released as this is designer's category these days. That's it. Designers. I believe demo without any tech/platform limitation set in a compo is becoming a race for designers not coders. 4kB is where it's seen coders masturbate to the maximum effect.. but I believe not for long as top memorable intros are already those with consistent visual design instead of black belt in math.

It's like those "engine" demos of yore :) Good pacing, pretty scenes, and energetic music. I think every Unreal Engine demo should have a spinning donut.
Nice graphics assets and the utilization of UE rendering is certainly at least decent. Not really sure what the creative spark that brought this into the world was exactly though. An industrial setting with lots of neon/laser lights that look pretty through SSRs and wide bloom kernels together with cameras spinning around generic demo objects? Despite the high production values and cutting edge tech used this is among the most oldskool demos in the compo. It feels listless and lethargic, bereft of a purpose beyond shiny shader effects. This is a higher production value version of DEMO2 without a sense of irony or a pithy message.
I don't mind using UE4 (or Notch for that matter), but this is anything but forward looking or novel in my opinion. If the rendering engine was homegrown I would applaud the effort at least but alas.

Oh and also I really hate how the camera cuts through the geometry throughout the demo, that's super cheap looking. If 4k intros can do it so should UE4.

I think it was nice enough, but yeah, those cameras hitting every possible pipe/geo was also killing part of the experience for me. Good stuff nevertheless.
well now this is demoish :D on the other hand it feels quite empty. nice scenes but nothing to watch again. but weak thumbs up anyway.

Brings 90s memories back when everyone wanted to make demos like this, but hardware couldn't handle. Now can totally handle, but old-school formula like this is increasingly rare. Good job.
