This is a beautiful animation. Btw, it won the animation contest and not the wild demo contest.

It's even cooler than I remembered. But is the file somehow broken? Vdub distorts the music and in Media Player there are some glitches with the picture.

cool. what's the difference between a wilddemo and a animation?

Good question!

I think the answer is hidden here.

Apparently they want wilddemos to be computergenerated, and not "home-videos", but then again, this production is computergenerated. I am confused now :)

Great, real professional look.

I wonder is it true that the author used 3 years for modelling this animation... anyway, it's sweet as hell!

This was awsome! Looked like a trailer to a film or something. My jaw smashed the floor...

looks much like a commercial trailer than a demoscene animation (no nicknames, some copyrights...)
very good modelings, rendering, colors, textures, music, rythm!
a good movie trailer :)
(download it, it's only 22Mb and it's motivating to start making 3D)

The visuals looked incredibly good, except that in some parts the aliasing was still visible. Even though the face at 1:22 looks just as unreal as any other animated face, the facial expressions themselves are some of the best I have ever seen! Wow!
The music is also very good, but it lacks some sounds synchronized with the actions in the scenes, as well as some evolving, like getting more dramatic when the robots attack.
These small details are maybe the only thing that seperates this from a professional animation in any good computer game or even movie animation...
I am still fascinated by how good this is.

Wow. Just... wow. Music, models, lighting, pacing, story, textures, scenery...
This is extremely underrated.

Pretty damn impressive =)
This is comercial-quality stuff, although some of the materials feel too "plasticky". Great music as well, which is also used in the Mindcandy DVD 1 (if I recall correctly)

The music is out of this world cool.
rulez added on the 2022-08-08 21:31:07 by wabe wabe
parts of this have a distinct "very 2002" look, but a lot of the shading and especially color grading is far better than your average budgetless indie CGI animation from that time

the content is, well, a bit kitschy, but it's also quaint in its own way :)

This had a great effect on me back then. Still love the music :) I believe it was bundled in some Assembly DVD release that had past years entries.

Only saw this now, even though I was present in ASM02 (don't recall seeing this at the time, perhaps I missed the animation compo?).

Don't like the pacing quite as much as the other commenters, but the result is very good for its time. Oozes immense effort and especially the animation is good looking, considering it's most likely completely handmade.
