This is is so random I don't what this is doing at #1. I get the whole gothic industrial vibe but this is way to much teenage angst. The models are of such a high detail it doesn't fit any of the other elements. If I didnd't knew better I would say they are ripped but I see credits for TooManyDemons so I guess he willingly contributed some highpoly models for free to this release.

Demo has some potential, for example the scene with the man suddenly showing his head was pretty nice. But this is no number 1 material by any standards, considering the competition at this years Evoke. Firm thumbdown mainly because of this.

Pure awesomeness! Unix did some nice intros for hoodlum on amiga back in the 90s.

I mean... it's got a decent amount of content and some thematic logic to it, but it's stapled together with zero care and with an eye from 15 year ago... So yeah, not great.

I think this demo was overall very cool, esp as a lover of industrial themed stuff, totally suits that Hoodlum mantra.

Todays demos are all about effects, its nice to see something that stands out and is different, unix you did great!

I think accusing of a sample being ripped from a real life-piece of music is a bit over the top - if that´s the scale, you can basically say the same about the majority of music in demo productions that is using vocal samples. In most cases, these were samples from external sources and (maybe) afterwards modified.

Well amount of tech put into what you're showing in the end is... impressive!

I kinda like it somehow (may be it reminds me 90s or something?) and thumbing it up is tempting, esp. when i see thumb downs from people who I remember were giving props to demos that had the same problems with design and direction as this one.

I sampled many vocals, some of them have been sampled by others as well. I try to avoid this but hey stuff happens.

I'm more bothered by the fact that they leve the pussy wet though.

Can't stand the music and the visuals aren't really my cup of tea either. Still OK demo though.

It feels like a Nextempire production for this generation. Some of the stuff like the modelling have a quality to themselves, but as a whole it's just... no.

I couldn't understand why it was shown last in the compo, and even less why it won - feels very "thrown together" and apparently sb. is stuck in his horny teenage mindset

i quite like this. i think there are some interesting ideas in there. but the various elements (music, 2d, 3d, pacing, editing) are all way too incongruous. and the tune could do without that sample.. even if the musician really is an angsty 15 year old. piggy

also.. should have placed lower, but i'm not going to rate it based on that

To be honest, at first I was quite happy to see unix/HLM finally winning the compo of a bigger demoparty with his demos because I really like his former, dreamy, anime-like demos even if they feel a bit thrown together. And even if they might contain some "3rd party" content. But these demos got a lot of soul. But now this mediocre production won and I *really* dislike this song. Unix, your other demos were better and Evoke voters, you suck! No thumb though, just my 2 cents.

Badly ripped and mixed assets. Blurry fonts. There's so much off with this demo I wouldn't even really know where to begin. So many different mediums thrown together in the most random order I've ever witnessed.
Nothing really added together for one moment.
Blurry font textures, ripped manga video, badly scanned 3D terrain. The list go's on and on.
That this was shown last blew my mind.
That it came 1st made me seriously wonder what went wrong with the scoring...

the fat tune does not fit the visuals imho. there are some nice scenes but overall this is too chaotic/messy for me. unfortunately the most good looking thing is the credits/greets scroller at the end. oink.

I liked it.. Yes, it´s a little weird with those video sequences. But it creates a tension. And as far as I can tell, they had the permission to use the soundtrack. Some comments could hurt here..

I can't help but like this. The "mishmash" of different styles can be seen as a synthesis of past demo aesthetics. Its own kind of insular vaporwave, if you will. The form of "angst demo" is very familiar to everybody by now, but maybe these demos are like blues songs? Formulaic, no exceptional skill at play, yet wonderful if you're in the mood.

The meshes don't seem ripped to me and actually look like they were computed via photogrammetry which is not very common to demos. Regarding the song, like Virgill wrote, it's better to grant the authors the benefit of doubt. I'm not sure if that music was a good fit to the visual side though.

I believe there's dignity in working with your own shit tools. Techwise this seems like a custom DirectX 12 engine and such endeavors should be encouraged. Different workflows result in different outcomes and I'd like to see those outcomes, even if they are of archaic variety.

Not that bad as one could think from comments.

Even if they had permission to use the track and the models, videos and animations were all free to use it's still mostly a badly thrown together collection of things found on the internet mixed with some ok effects and bad typography.

What ripped soundtrack btw? In nfo all kind of credits are given so at least it's not been actively hidden, though of course it's bad IF there's no permission to use it.

actually one of the most memorable soundtracks in the democompo, and i'm sure it was used with permission. not always the best demo wins, but the bashing seems to be a bit more than normal, it ain't that bad. and yeah the overall demo compo quality let some wishes open, but then again, the 4k compo rocked.

Could be great but with such controversial content and lack of polishing it just can't stand against any of the Shads, including the MS DOS versions that were low poly and huge pixels. But I believe it could be different experience at the big screen with booze in hands.

Looks like someone first punched a screwdriver through each of the team's pair of eyes and then told them to make something that stylewise resembled VIP2 by Popsy Team but then were instructed to make it look like the equivalent of holding your puke in for a couple of minutes.

The soundtrack is ”Demons watching” by Naybr. It’s on spotify etc, thankfully without the vocals. I much prefer it without them.

Don't like the style and the music. You also forget many sources of your rip or perhaps you'll stole things without knowing the authors. I don't thing to thanks only Frank Miller it's enough. Put all your inspirations abd rip sources on credits like who are the authors behind this animation of Manga/Anims. Not a honest prod.

A hollow reimagining of the 1990s teen angst demo style; just without any heft and grit (or the sheer style of something like bakkslide 7), but with a lot of "borrowed" assets instead. :(

i think this is much better than the previous unix/hoodlum demos. still, it's kind of random, and, worst of all, the lyrics don't fit the mood and message of the demo AT ALL. i don't see any problem with a sexually explicit sample in a demo, but if it has absolutely nothing to do with the rest, why use it? the only "excuse" is that unix didn't get what the sample is saying - to be honest, i couldn't work it out either during the compo.

I like this, even if it's based a lot on stolen content and is a bit all over the place.

There are a lot of people in this thread who seem to have left their empathy at home for the week though.

This can disturbingly easy be read as being about rape/sexual abuse:

Lyrics about being trapped in yourself, feeling like a slave in chains, being used, not being able to talk about it to anybody, pondering whether death is a solution, no healthy perspective for a future, misantrophy.
The sea of blood, the aggressive music and the rapper - who cannot stress enough to give her no rest - support it aswell.
(This was probably not the intended design, just interesting to me how well this fits)

There are effects and credits to what was borrowed (i beg to differ between stolen with no (or obfuscated) credits and borrowed with proper credits), in my book alot better Demo than the kevintro that won Revision ^^

Despite massive amount of 'borrowed' content I still like the result, feels fresh, the music is epic and nicely synced to the visuals. Waiting for more.

The sum is more than its parts. Creating art that triggers extreme reactions is something I truly admire!

I liked watching it at home, and it could be a great demo. Also the music would be great, but this ridiculous "Pussy Wet" stuff kills it. And as far I read in other comments, there are ripped/stolen components.
