The beginning was ok speedwise, but then it was for some time very slow before turning back to better speed. Looks nice, but a bit to long. Sound is 'ok'

very professional intro ..
it has definitely no weak point.

++ for the tpolm styled synchro.. talented musicians making synchros allways gives a clever result.

the code smells two years old though, so enjoy salmiakki as soon as possible :)
rulez added on the 2002-08-19 19:59:21 by florent florent
for sure it's compiled with vc7, so you need the "msvcr70.dll". (the new windows runtime lib)

Search google for a place to download it. No doubt you'll need it very soon (if you still haven't it) for most of the new windows softwares...
added on the 2002-08-19 20:19:35 by alkama alkama
msvcr70.dll and the rest :
http://chainsofgod.darktech.org/stefan/vc7runtimes.zip

however, i must aggree that its not an intro when it requires runtimedlls not included with the target platform...

but then again, as long as Java is being allowed as a platform , then why not a dynamically linked runtimelib for C/C++ , if you run vc6 you have msvcr.dll coming with 98SE+ i think.. so ...

alkama: XIITA!!

added on the 2002-08-19 21:33:42 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
runtime libs are no tricks... I always compile with DLL runtimes, even my demos...

Static compilation is a loss of space for the watchers as long as everybody should have those DLLs in their system...

For this intro, i haven't even noticed it was a problem, i was in a hurry...

Anyway, runtime libs are no tricks;)

Alkama: if you haven't used weird template stuff, or other ISO C++ hacks, then you can try to compile the final version with VC6 rather than VC7 (it will use MSVCRT.DLL, which is standard on 95b+). =)
added on the 2002-08-20 11:42:38 by pan pan
TPOLM has lost that definite attitude they once held, attitude that oozeed out from e.g. their marvelous release 'kaakkoon' ;)

rulez added on the 2002-08-20 16:41:42 by skypher skypher
Ok, but too little detail & depth. Better than average anyway.

As for the runtime libs, they are not cheating, pretty much everyone needs those shared libs anyway. There should have been instructions on how to find the runtime lib in the infofile though!

i love it. great visual stuff and great music.
rulez added on the 2002-08-21 23:17:01 by teel teel
about those vc7 runtime libs - it took me like 5 minutes to change my 64kb project for SE2K2 to compile without them, so i guess you guys can do the same...
or compile with VC6 :)
added on the 2002-08-22 10:05:33 by dake^cdx dake^cdx
You'll find a statically compiled version of salmiakki on:

http://www.tpolm.org in the DOWNLOAD section.

This version includes the track without wavelet compression and static link of the needed runtimes.
For sure, the intro passed from 61kb to 164kb (due to the tune that has originaly 150kb of samples and to the runtime that take here 8kb more in static link. If you can count up to ten, you'll see that without the use of the dll version of the windows runtime, the intro would have compiled in 70kb and have been disqualified).

now enjoy... and now stop talking about those dlls.

to macaw and the others... this is no place to discuss about the way you compile without those dll... Please do that in the BBS section or on flipcode the next time...

its mood reminds me of the older tpolm classic bjoer a bit. the effects are finely synchronized to the music, and they are quite consistent in style. if i shall predict, i would say it'll become a classic one day.

The shape of the "viewing screen" was cool and some of the visual tricks were nifty, but all in all a bit boring, uneventless, and I didn't really fancy the music. TPOLM has done so much better in the past.
