this version is somewhat edited, and IMHO doesn't even come close to the original.

hmm. why did they have to tweak it? I remember liking the original somewhat better (though it's been a while since I've seen it, no more dos)
but who really cares - with this amazing piece of music, it would be an immensely enjoyable demo even if it only showed one flatshaded cube (I guess it would be a replay production then)

Has a slight Haujobb-touch to it. I'm no big fan of black and white, but this one manages to pull it off quite nicely :-)

great demo

some weird bugs on my system though (fullscreen, Win98SE, pentium933, voodoo5500) cracks in the polygons, some flickering during the fades, other things that didn't happen in the DOS version

thank you jonas, the filters was a cool addition.

in X posts you'll be able to see stefan^dxm thumbing down this demo. im pretty sure of it.

why? i love dull black and white demo with no actions at all, stellan, are you high? THIS IS ART

The music is awesome, so is the style. However it is rather long and kind of big. I had not seen the original.

i don't find this prod too superb either. it has it's own theme, and follows it well, but still.. the music is rather average.. over-artistic perhaps? and there's really nothing to see.. not tpolm's best demo, but it's ok in it's own way.
added on the 2002-07-15 20:31:09 by zeroic zeroic
Doesn't do much for me. I found it too dark to be interesting, and the music did really go anywhere.

ahhhh this music is so wellknown! a Nectarine hit!
but the whole demo is too boring in fact, not very interesting
yes it's design and stylish but it's slow rythm
life, fashion, and vision
burn it up

Long, boring, uninteresting, painful to listen to, ugly as a beaten child. God this thing was everything I dislike in a demo... and still is.

Unreal is still cool, though.

The mood of the demo is quite calm and this could bore, on the other hand I find the prod suggestive.
I like the music.
rulez added on the 2005-05-28 14:06:06 by bdk bdk
there is very nearly a perfect demo, certainly the best thing i've seen from Tpolm.

Additive stereo delay matches wonderfully with the geometric design and typography; completely perfect use (hints) of sync.. wonderful package.

Still a really great demo but I prefer the original. The changes aren't all great although some fit right in. Definitely one of the best... I tend to group it with moralcandy et al and it's certainly one of the best if not the best of those. Must add that even if I do that categorization te-2rb really stands on it's own and is far from being any sort of a clone.

I'll have to rewatch the DOS version some day soon.

some facts people:
- the blasphemy/purple flatshade design style (with md music) was admitedly inspired by this demo.
- the 7002 version is not diferent from dos version, was only ported and added extra filter options (secret modes)

As ps said this is a "straight" port apart from the optional filters. There is two bugfixes if i remember right. One is that the "blobby" thing (double-sine-pulsating-wireframeobject) is tied to a clock instead of being framerate based (On 2002 era laptops it ran so fast it wasn't even recognizable) and that fix is mostly there to make it feel like on older machines.

There is one other difference. If you type legacy at the select-a-mode you get "identical" code with regards to two things. One is a slighly different palette generation and the second one is an overflow of some things towards the end of the demo.

The default mode of the demo did away with these. The reason for this was that ugly blue fields that appeared. Looking now at the video capture i see that the overflow was black in the original.

The reason for this might be how the VGA cards handled overflows in the palette and made them black. In the ported code with a 256value palette (vga was 64) this reflected as a blue color in the palette as the other values overflowed to low values.

Regardless of this i consider the port is very true to the original and maybe for some of you memory plays tricks.
