By far one the best things I've seen in ages.

I liked this a lot, different in a good way :) That skull(clock?) was really nice! :)
💀
Short and impactful.
Clear winner. The demo overall had a great mood.
Some of the scenes arere really well polished and designed. Watching this one on the bigscreen really tired I started getting uncannily worried about what would become of that faceless weirdo next :)
Plus the thumb.
I'm huge on this style; super motion graphics vibes! Not all of the scenes were quite up-to-par, but the ones that were were seriously solid. Nice stuff!
So this year an UE4 demo DID win at assembly (no mention of this anywhere by the way).
Still along with Adapt easily the best demo in the compo. I don't see really anything here unc couldn't have pulled off in a weekend on his own though.

Best one in the compo by far. Great style.
Well deserved first place! Was wonderful
Very smooth design and interesting if somewhat disturbing mood.
Still, I think mentioning Unreal Engine on the compo slides would've been better form. That LOD texture pop in during the scene transition to the "skull clock" was pretty obvious though. ;)

style!
Mature design, great attention to details, unique atmosphere, a bit too much vimeo-ish to be fair, but still, much better than the rest.
It's the first time I'm actually thinking to give a thumb up to a prod with a commercial engine... but yeah, I'm still thinking...

Great show, congrats
Wonderful atmosphere!
This is weird but the good way :). Very good mood.
Best one in the compo and it actually won the compo.
ASMR
oh yes! excellent visual atmosphere and sound.

norm but too short...
finally, a decent demo.
Museum piece, captivating despite being completely abstract to me.
Also, beautifully polished.
Also, beautifully polished.
Awesome design and everything felt just right. By far the most refined entry in the compo, and as such, a deserving winner.
Nice mood + design. Very nice atmosphere overall.
congratulations
dope stuff!
did not completely get this one. or rather, at all. the rendering is neat tho.
It builds a tension with so little, incredible. <3
Very Nice prod !!!! , too short for 268Mo...... :(
БЕЗНОГNМ
Gorgeous lighting and reflections
the gestalt feels so out of place design wise and yet it is a big part of the prod. compared to the e.g. opening scene it looks kinda rushed. oink.
You've killed the Fairlght! In all nominations: style, visuals, soundtrack and of couse the file size :)
Though, I still can't get why the "gestalt" title is pink. Because it's not a component of gestalt?
UE or not, this was very interesting and original.
yes!
Great angst demo! Smooth!
omg congratulations guys, you are rock
There is probably lot of work involved here but sorry it's not my cup of tea.
Motion design like production. I like it
awesome :)
The design on this is A++ but the size/content ratio (mainly because of UE4 usage) is quite a bummer, sorry.
I gladly thumb it up for what it is (also, yeah quite!) but this winning assembly makes the compo look a bit weak...

A very well deserved winner.
Good stuff, but as a programmer I still don't feel like thumbing up an UE4 powered demo.
Super-nice. :) Minor grievance: the first time the person/statue shows up on screen, it looks pretty bad compared to the scene before it. Apart from that, stellar.
Titten
nice
Woohoo!
kurz und knackig ;-)

Hammer!
congrats, love it!
excellent demo. the moody style kinda makes me think of Tool videos... but jesus christ, that typography in the end.
Oh yeah, that's how I like my demos! Perfect match of visual and audio tension.
Amazing concept and style.
If you are on anything please send some over. Hopefully this year we will not see too many controversies about ASM winner :)
Nice direction. Insanely large file size.
Pretty much what wysiwtf said. Slick and bloated; a worthy winner nonetheless.
I'm sorry for raining on your parade, but 2 minutes long Unreal Engine demo is winning the compo? What happened to Assembly? Nice visuals, but forgot it faster than recent Star Wars.
I think it's nice; obviously I can't thumb up the engine, but you used it well, and there's more than enough of your own stuff here to warrant a thumb.
It _is_ considered common courtesy to credit other people's stuff on the compo slide if you use it, though. (E.g., pretty much every 4k intro I saw at assembler credited Crinkler.)

Best demo of the compo doesn't mean good compo. Disappointed by the massive size of 268MB versus the very modest results. Too simplistic, too repetitive, too short. And the use of a commercial 3D engine to drive a demo is a big no-no IMHO. I'll salute the effort, but I'll pass on everything else. Piggy, borderline sucks for me.
Great.
Visuals are great, but feels in no way like a demo. More or less pointless from my point of view.
Usually I tend to frown upon demos that rely on a ready made engine. Nothing wrong with it and I'll usually take the position that's perfectly fine, apart from a nagging feeling that it takes away the technical aspect of demos. It's especially true if all a demo has to offer is basically what the engine offers out of the box, typically with UE4, its slick rendering and in-your-face lighting and post-processing.
But here it's not the case. What makes this demo worth watching is certainly not the engine. The solid visual design, ominous soundtrack and the carefully built up tension work to make a short but strong impression.
It is not without flaws either: the second scene feels out of place and amateur compared to the rest, and the skull LOD pop is hard not to notice.
So it's maybe not as strong as one of the most glorious earlier Assembly winners or best Quite demos, but I still wish I had seen it on big screen, because it must have been quite an experience.

Worthy winner, I should have added.
Decent. :)
nice
Unreal or not, I didn't liked it. I know it's kinda symbolic, artsy, but I was expecting more happening, especially considered it's the 1st place.
THESE ACCELERATED DEMOS ARE KILLING THE SCENE
soooo cool. Amazing design, sync and style.
Way too short, because what I saw looked awesome
Great stuff!
Very nice
I got too excited by name expectations and filesize. will come back to it.
loved everything about it from start to finish
this. is. FUCKING AMAZING!
If this is done with UE, the why does the lighting feel so wrong? Cocoon can do this 10 times better. Also comes without music, has an obscure message. The one good scene (Rings with light) does not make me give it a thumb up...
Nice atmosphere and music, but are we really at that point where it's perfectly fine to use UE (without credits) and everyone's fine with it? Really?
sagacity: People have used tools to make demos for decades because they don't have the wherewithal to code their own engine. I'd prefer if it wasn't the case but some groups are more about the art and design than the coding, and that's fine with me.
I agree they should be more up front about it, though.

First of all, this is boring as fuck, and barely has any effects.
But more importantly... how the fuck did we end up with a "demoscene" that doesn't care how a demo is made? This used to be a technically minded group of people showing off their skills. How did everything become so politically-correct around here that we don't call shit like this "lame" any more? How is this a "demo" ?
Don't bother answering. I don't give a shit.

well these days .. on highend platforms at least .. it's less about the technology and more about how you use it.
Well, I can only judge the content side of all this... and i must say it rules. Sagacity : since a lot od real coders are too busy to write engines / effects that could compete with commerical Tools.
Don't know much about using UE, but this managed to impress me: The visual design is solid, some of the scenes look impressive and it's all pretty stylish, even though it has basically no transitions.
a clean demo with some 828 vibes but not as elaborate and not as perfect. won't thumb up something made in 3rd party engine that is not top notch.
Unc (and the rest of the team, of course) strikes again! :)
That human model doesn't fit the rest, quality-wise, though.

short but nice
Absolutely love this.
Amazeballs
Very stylish and cool. But it is too short for my taste.
I have to agree, I really wish it was longer. Top-notch stuff though. :)
phokk yea! very nice composition
beauty
Hires visuals and well mastered soundscape. But apart from the skull clock scene it is pretty dull.

now I'm wondering what the original was :)

Also for these kinds of stuff, I love the demoscene
Nice lighting
Help me here : Engine is a commercial one and art seems to be heavily inspired ( if not purely copied) from some one. Is the music legit ?
yes
Totally my cup of tea, and very inspiring. I hope to make something as good one day.
The soundtrack is amazing. Splines/curves are generally underappreciated and underused, I really like what you're doing with them here.
Nitpicking: The skull felt a little too realistic given the abstract look of the rest.
