I don't like download links to websites.
direct link:http://www.afri-cola.com/download/demo/afri-demo.exe
and I don't like commercial demos...
and to enter afri-cola as scene group is like uhmm...
and yes, yes, I'm predictable... bla. ;)

funky.
nice demo. sucks that it's an ad, though
cocacola-demo and nike-demo coming soon!
...
...
that'd be cool. after all, there aren't plenty of cocacolademos around already you know.
hmm... nice, clean and short. though a bit too commercial even for my taste.
Except every other hybris/NEMESIS wild-demo, maybe.
Commercial? So what
nice to look at. I alsmost wish they had followed the Shortcut method of first winning a compo with it and then repackage it for commerical means ;)
Neat visuals and some style.
(well, it's just a in-the-center-of-the-screen- object show, but still I'd like to see more commercials like this).

wow very cool...
very goodlooking, good sync
(i had the feeling while watching it 'hey this could be fr or einklang' :)
i was sad to see it end so soon

Great! oh, and there's some spiderman's webs in it!
how opportunist!! :-)
how opportunist!! :-)
Nice thang... :-)
I just wonder why I always thought - while watching it - it would be better to name it
"a-fR-i demo"...
But on the other hand it's weird that it's 2.3 MB and not just a 64k... Guess it shouldn't be a big of a problem for fR to release also a 64k version of it....
Ooops... ;-D (why not watching the end-scroller a bit closer...)

i don't know what the demo has to do with the product, but the demo is very nice. seems to consist of recycled "poem to a horse"-effects.
this is not a fr production!
this was done by fiver, chaos and ronny, who are fr members too, true, but they did it at work (VCC entertainment) and for money.
fr itself is (and always will be) completely uncommercial.

just.. why is it 2 megs???
i thought pouet was about demoscene, whats next.. adding 3dmark or mtv movies?
hmm. this demo rockz. and it´s also an commercial. You can also get money using a demo engine for VJ Stuff. OK, Music is a bit different than comercials. But is it a commercial, or is it just fun. I thing is nothing more than a "screensaver" thing. Look at Please the cookie thing by Aardbei. There are more version of this Intro with commercial in it i think. Could this be. Anyway. This is a good demo. That´s all. And also some mtv music clips are better than the rest. i don´t know. i like the demo, and i am glad that this is afri cola and not Marlboro ;)
Cool! New controversy for pouet.net. Commercially commissioned demos: Good or Evil??
This brings a whole new meaning to ".the .product."
But why no sub-titles saying things like, "afri-cola makes you beautiful," or, "afri-cola will make you understand," or even, "afri-cola will give you gas?"

what will be next? advertising somew kind of soap with naked girls could be nice!
of course with doom3-like graphics...
of course with doom3-like graphics...
It definitely has style... But I didn't exactly get a craving for afri-cola after seeing it though ;)
haven't watched it till now, but all i can say that afri cola fucking rules... you can forget coca cola or pepsi in comparishment to good old afri..=) well, tomorrow i'll have a look at the demo and then i can do thumbs.. good night ! =)
fresh stuff, not too fancy yet not even boring, oh and btw, "afri-cola WILL give you gas"
great visual ... really, a little bit too short though :).
thanks for your work on this.
thanks for your work on this.
only thing worth the download is the music.
i wonder how a consumer would connect this demo with a bottle of cola (except for the annoying ugly logo).
if you see more or less _any_ coca-cola commercial they will make sure that everyone knows how the product look :-D

i think there is no problem. Afri is ok. And yes. First it´s a demo. It´s not just a simple "buy afri cola spot", it´s a realy good demo with some logos in it. I don´t care. This rockz.
rp, you guys need to know where you stand. because you're statement makes me think you should've gone for politics instead.
either its a demo or an advertisment.
this is why you can't have both:
a demo (the whole demoscene in general) has an unwritten nonprofit anticommercial policy.
while an advertisment has the exact opposite policy.
go figure

stellan. what is the demoscene. boring. Stellan. Just make some demos. It´s hard work. I see no problem for commercials. Becouse a commercial can be good or bad. Same with movies. A Hollywood Movie (MAINSTREAM) can be good (for example Fight Club). I just see the demo itself, that´s it. And also the Music. If a band changed to a major label, some people will not longer listen to their music. This is so stupid.
Just watch the Demo. This is nice and good.
btw. Did anyone remember the "Heinecken" beer demo ??? It was called Heinecken Screensaver, but it was a Demo !

no. selling the demoscene to marketing people sucks. sorry.
a thing i always liked about the demoscene was the spirit of doing hard coding (for which you can get money for) for nothing but the code alone. no money, no use (in oposition to open source nerds) just plain code - selling that idea sucks. big time.

and btw, diver: the major label or hollywood analogy is faulty. going "major label" is more like starting to work in games for example (as chaos does, or me also) which is perfectly o.k. because games and demos are more or less unrelated, because games are about money, but demos are not. a game coder can still very well do demos and that's great, but selling _demos_ (give the people some new marketing outreach.. afri surely hopes to get that one shown on giga.. it's hip etc... ) sucks .. wow. i write sucks a lot here.
Well, this is going to be a 'general' discussion about scene =! money or 'may demos be sold!?' etc...
Why not opening a NEW discussion on the pouet-page...
Would be much easier to join and follow the thread! ;-)
Could be an interesting thread indeed...

I don't care if it's commercial or not, the on ly thing is .the .result !
btw. good music & sync !

and please, do an extended version ! ;-)
thomas, dierk, ronny: grossartig!
shiva: i know all what you say. and you are also right. Buit money makes free. If i could code i would also use my demo engine for VJ Stuff. An earn money from "a big club" in town. take a look at einklang.net.
btw: i still want to the "heinecken-demo". This was the first, imho, commercial demo.

commercial.
I really like it. Ronny, adjust your drum loops next time :) and in overall, it's a bit too short, but it's goddamn beautiful.
And please stop crying "sellout". There have been demos for "commercial purposes" for a long time (paper mag ads back in the C64 days, GUS ad demos, that future crew thig for that one publisher, the commercial PTCT and all the others done by the Shortcut guys, etc). Still, we in FR decided NOT to make this demo under our name, but to hand it to one of the various companies FR members are working in. Like, to separate our hobby from our jobs.
So the only thing that may be "wrong" here is the fact that this demo has been added to this site. And what the heck.

don't care the reason, the result is an example.
Looks like fr019 all over, but it's very good. It's 2mb because the music uses sampling, and very effectively too.
As an advertisement, I must say that it should not work very well, it needs more focus on the actual product. But then again, who cares about the actual product? :-)
Speaking of which, who gives a funk if this is commercial? It looks and sounds nice, that's all that matters.

I'll be thumbing up commercial prods as long as I won't see them entering party demo compos. Then I'll go medieval on someone :D
This one (as stated before) rocks and is a no-party-release, so why bother?

i'm not feeling so coca-cola today...
i didn't really like the design.. and i think i spotted a few artifacts here and there.. tho i must give props for the great synchronization, music and ideas.
oh and my 2 cents on "selling demos" -> let's make money ;) i would've done the same.

funny how all fr members shows a defensive side when people let off some steam :)
before i've posted too many comments on this page, i'd like to point out that i have nothing against you guys making $ on creating ad-demos, i think thats a lovely idea, and if it sells why not have fun while making some cash, right?
i just think its silly some of you can't decide which side of the field this demo belongs to.
scene!=commercial, and if its an ad then its no more than a realtime animation, and if its only created to earn a few bucks then it's clearly not any teenage demonstration of coding/composing/modelling/etc-skills :)
am i making any sense here?
anyway, nice demo(?), cool music, perfect lenght, but where's the cola ? :)

Oh, all RATM idealism be damned. This is cool.
nice.
bof
folks, cut the crap. there are way too few commercial demos out there to fight a war over. this rocks.
it works well as a demo, but not as an advert ..
that flat discoball effect of fr019 is very cute ..
the demo lacks a bit of personality though, or probably the farb-rausch style ?

ah, now i know.. it looks like an advanced version of "bakkslide".
and about this commercialism thingie, then i think i saw a gravis-ultrasound-commercial-demo back in the early 90s :-D

cocaholic cool demo, well done and i don't care about the fact it's an ad, if it can bring quality....
the scene has been commercial for years, stop complaining and get out of your little idealistic island. Next time you get a prize at a party, just refuse it because you created a "non-profit" production, this is nonsense.

A bit dull, but very nicely put together, and the totally lame soundtrack fit its style, and attitude. Not my shit though.
like fr019 this ad is very clean and beautifful i like it very much. fr seems to have powerfull tools to make their demos. EXCELLENTISSIMA
I agree 100% with shiva, nothing more to say. Capitalism suxx, commercialism suxx!
deine mutter.
but its right smells like bakkslide7, which is a good thing :)
I don't see any problem with these type of ad-demos, ad as it stands this is a large, nice, fr intro, so it gets the thumbs up.
I have to say though it could use a bit of color, bakkslide7 made up for B&W (which I assume they did for coding reasons) by extremely good design, while this prod, doesn't have that.

afri required it to be black/white.
cool style
huuumm i love the money, it smells good, it looks good. Money rulez.
This prod is good looking;)
You should have presented this demo at mekka symposium 2003, coz more money is even better;)
marketting rulez, the scene must rule the market;) Lets create a company to sell the existing prods of the scene: not selling demos is a loss of money ;)
just one more step and all will do fine ;)

btw, someone should think about introducting a pay-per-view system for demos.
Kinda stylish, but it's all too seen-before, boring, and overall forgettable.
However, kudos to them for getting paid to do demostuff - most of the whinners here would love to get the opportunity.

africola tastes bad.
To all the whiners:
You SUCK!!!!
You wish you could get money making demos. You should be ashamed that FR has time to blow to oblivion all your prods AND produce commercial stuff, and they didnt even release it under their name!!!! So shut the fuck up!

I don't give a shit if it's commercial, 'cause this prod looks good and that's enough.
Considering I hadn't even *heard* of Afri-cola before I saw this, I'd say it's worked :)
Still, I've never seen it for sale in this country so I guess it hasn't put their sales up any :)

this looks so very trendy. but it gets boring.
afri-cola is the best cola drink there is.

who cares if this is commercial?
This looks like a demo, sounds like a demo, tastes like a demo, so me thinks this is a demo.
But not good enough for a thumb up.

Funny... who would have thought that the members of fr would try to make a living in the real world? :p
Come on people... just think, the company paid them to do this, and we get it for free. What's so bad about that?
Yes, the media world is taking over what was once an exclusive domain, that of visual effects. It was inevitable - why? Because it looks cool, and people like things that look cool. They will also pay a lot of money for things that look cool.
But... this is the scene. The scene is (mostly) about "made by sceners, for sceners." For free, because we want to have fun, and it's not fun anymore when you have to pay to see art.
Anyway, I'll watch this when I get home. And I think it'll be good from what I've seen written above.
Alkama: you deserve a seizure for your posts.

a seizure? oh com'on i'm such a friendly guy! I'm full of love and friendship;)
If demos were made by professionnal artists we would have a great level of production, and we all could finaly lay on a sofa and watch great commercial productions;) Sooooo good... Who can say he doesn't want that to happen;) With commercial productions on pouet we could all finally give thumbs up on more productions and have enjoyable moments at demoparties, voting for the last cocacola or adidas release!
That's a possible happy future, and we will do our best to make it possible ;)

i found it very cool.

never tasted afri-cola before and can't say this one makes me feel the sudden urge to do so.. it's a nice prod, okay, but it's not that nice. dunno if it makes a good advert.. but I guess if them cola managers were pleased, it's okay.
and alkama definetely doesn't deserve a seizure 8)
sweet and stylish.
..and oh yeah, how can people think that this is an fr-prod? did you fail to see that there was no fr-progressbar in the loader? :P

Nice work, guys!!
very clean, i like it alot
"ah, now i know.. it looks like an advanced version of "bakkslide"."
with the slight exception that the music here doesn't make me wish i were dead.
in fact, it makes me wish i were alive!

hmm.. i think it looks more like a degraded version of poem to a horse. :) nice effects + music but lacks somehow the spirit. and like someone said already: where's the cola?
simply roxx! doing demos for money is ok. where is the problem? doing design, code, music, gfx for money is ok, too - so what.
dadadadaada always Coca-Cola
square-structured-polished-surfaces rule (like in fr19) !!!
at the moment this is the most boring and uninsprired piece of flatpoly object show on my harddisc. better watch fr19 instead.
Good sync, okay music, but ugly logo and I feel that the effects are somewhat recycled (perhaps most notably the flat-envmapping or whatever that "disco ball" effekt from fr-019 is) :-)
"effect", not "effekt". Whatever. :-)
if you want to make some advertisement on pouët, you can just ask for a banner and send to analogue some money.
It would perhaps have helped him to keep his server, avoiding him to move pouët on scene.org.
but oh well its not enough that he has to pay himself for the server, we can make money on his back too, hurray.

guys, you really break my heart. i love africola. i love demos. for a long time i only survived on afri cola. some scene events (especially UC) mean a lot to me also (somthing with the feeling of beeing in the right place wich i miss in RL somehow). anyway this here is ripping my heart out. it's like an 80's Song that mens something to you because you remember somthing(or someone) when you hear it, that gets badyl coverd and played everywhere... good code, maybe even good music, too.... but that combination here (with the commercial sell out and all) seems lethal to me.
P.S. I had an afri-cola logo in the "diver ist schuld"-demo because I lke the cola(lots of caffeine) and not to make money or anything.

Beautiful, but not very entertaining. I don't like the music. I'll keep on drinking Coca-Cola.
sellout
Very Nice
its nice to screw money out of companies and very useful indeed..
tho it shouldnt be here anyway, i'd rather watch it on TV and forget.
capitalism is evil. stand up and fight, mash em down commercial whores! start tha ri0t!
I always figured Farbrausch's capitalist image was a parody, or some kind of gimmick. I guess I misunderstood.
Nevertheless, I think we should be grateful that these guys are still making demos instead of accusing them of selling out.
Afterall, think of all the sceners who have abandoned demo-making for commercial development and game design. They aren't accused of the same crime.
Anyway, the demo is great.

Schließe mich gizmo an.
this is a funky demo ... Nice effect :)
btw, nice music !!!
reminds me of a lot of the demos of 10 years ago.... nice look/feel to it...
a nice relaxing prod. and if you can make money with it (if) - why not.
however, thumbs down for afri cola, the real afri had a question mark and tasted totally different (good). ;)

Nice.
Good designed.
Good designed.
ööhm. Commercial or not. It has much style, it is beautiful, it simply rox.
afri
this prod proves one thing.: FR has a real own artistic personnality and I guess it's the most important thing, be it commercial or be it purely demoscenish.
anyway, It's a very good demo so thumbs up guys@FR !

Nice funky monkey demo hehehe
Rulez, nice and soft :)
as a demo, it's quite cool.
as a commercial, it's crap.
I'd like to see it as a demo, though :)

Lovely "commercial". Good way of advertising.
I love the tesselation style of those flat polygons and wireframe... where the hell is the cola bottle?
"Sooo, you are a democoder?" - "Yepp." - "Wanna have my money? Wanna make a demo?"

Nicely done
Using a "scene prod" to promote a comercial website simply sux. Go to google adwords to do this...
cool
I think it is a very unique thing of the demoscene that it almost successfully resisted commerce!
If you start doing demos as a commercial (no matter how nice they look), what will come next?
Demos with spyware maybe??

frankly, the low number of "commercial demos" is mostly due to lack of opportunity, and certainly not because any kind of "resistance" is taking place.
i don't see why anyone should apologize for doing what he loves and getting paid for it.

EarlGrey: what a great idea! I'll add some spyware to my next demo!
get a grip you morons. as ryg sais, there's nothing wrong with doing demos (or painting a picture, making a track, beating some children) or whatever you love to do for money. schpenna!

argh, fuckings to doubleposts.
Oh my dear. Your arguments are so well put, so clearly shaped.
Truly, they reveal attitude!
And: I like making money too.
Plus: I‘m being called a moron by the pope of demos.
I feel my ears turning red right now..
But you know, I just have this very strange feeling in my guts that commerce (and especially the idea of advertising) can somehow have bad effects on creative processes.
I think the intention _does_ make a difference after all. But quite probably I‘m wrong about just everything.
Then there‘s of course absolutely nothing wrong with Afri-demo.

i saw the demo. where is the cola?
chromag: Get it there ftp://ftp.4players.de/pub/pc/4sceners/Demos/Afri-Cola.zip
nice scenes with audio synch
I realy like the tune in this demo

I liked this one.

meh
For the style. And the drama.
One of the first commercial usage of demo tools. Before demo tools became all the rage in pro wrestling
cute
it's often fun to look at something like this with the benefit of a hindsight, where as 20 years ago it's much easier (and to some extent understandable) to react to something like this with concern and skepticism; not everything ends up being a cataclysmic extinction level event
all in all it's just a fun lil Y2K trip in the commercial space, nothing particularly special, no lasting harm done
(i wonder what the marketing goals here exactly were though...?)
