I don't think it looks bad but it could use maybe a little bit more polishing. I think the abstract visuals and mellow music work ok together even though it's not a style of music I would normally listen to.
fucking loved the music! translated lyrics anyone? just out of curiousity. over all this demo makes me sad. on one hand the visuals are very meh on the other it works quite well all put together :)
I actually really like this one, it has a few fumbles in direction, but nothing that destabilizes the atmosphere.
Lyrics (as I'm hearing them):
A nice folky tune (I'm suggesting also Sami Kukka to anyone interested in similar modern Finnish folk), though some more attention to the production side wouldn't have hurt the intelligibility. The graphical side is pretty lofi. It looks good, especially the colors and composition (a big part for me), but the bare clipped textures and movements with purely linear interpolation are a bit ascetic. The editing works for me though, just the right pace considering the audio side. It's not always pretty, but even when it's not, it works.
Quote:
Once more the secrets will dawn
A path from this forest's frontiers
The silence scorches me
Yet the path guides me further
To set out is to forgo
Step taken is to torch one's home
To give oneself to the icy gust
To move on waters without freezing
I sing against the wind
And quietly opens up
In front of my eyes, snow in grey
Not part of a state(?)
I'd be ready to forgo only if
I'd give up all, could I choose
To give oneself to the icy gust
To travel to the end of the road
To set out is to forgo
Step taken is to torch one's home
To give oneself to the icy gust
To move on waters without freezing

Mostly what others said..
Thumb for the vibe (music, color, pace).
Smoother interpolation and less crude clipping would make it much better (or at least more accessible), and fit more with the "handmade" style, cuz as-it-is, it feels mechanic a little.
@mkos: they say that as soon as it's out the door, you no longer have your say about what it means. that meanings can vary between persons, and they're all valid. well, they say it about art. So call yourself and artist and you'll be alright ;)

metoikos: It can be difficult as a demo viewer to understand what the creators intentions were when you have no context. I always try to appreciate what someone else has made even if I don't understand it fully or it is not to my personal taste. I do know that recently on a few demos the creators have posted some explanations of their mood and intentions and it really changed the way I viewed those productions. There is nothing wrong with providing some context in the nfo if you think it will help people appreciate what you were trying to show. Ultimately what BarZoule said is true, demos are a creative work and you can't really tell people how to consume them. Just do your best to present your demo, whether it is some high conceptual art or a compofiller shitro and people will either enjoy it or not.
first time i tried to watch it, i pressed escape after 15 seconds. now that i see that Preacher did the audio and i respect his work for the scene, i tried to watch it again. the so-so home recording music quality aside, the visuals are just not good. now that i read the lyrics, none of the visuals actually carry the music topically or even in sync or flow of the track, and, it just looks like outdated visuals with some smudgy textures. something kooma wouldve done in 2002. piggie for the track, it's courageous to sing in demos :)
good & different!
video please.
I am confused about why this didn't place higher in this compo.
(btw I had to go get d3dcompiler_47.dll to get it to run.)
