This is a hicolor video encoder & player running on Atari ST/STe with 512KB of memory @ 12.5 fps, 80% of the screen size (no sound on ST, DMA is used).

Mixer & video player : Petari-Ppera
Video encoder : Cyg/BLaBla

More info, details and features about the video player including modified hardware can be read at http://atari.8bitchip.info/movpst.php and in the ReadMe.txt file (encoding instructions).

Some videos are available here : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qlo83rg5ynpfbvh/AAD68mBaB5qModhj5sJPQrtXa (Moleman2 demoscene documentary, a home-made demo mix, Big Buck Bunny, a Tokyo HDR timelapse, etc.)
Great tool ! Was already impressive at the compo but reading the details was more than exquisite.

THis video shows with less artifacts than the Amiga OCS Ham would do.
Nice breakthru for a STe!

Technically the most impressive release at Outline. Picture and audio quality are simply great!

Impressive :)
I knew it was possible to run Second Reality unmodified on an Atari ST ;)

would have probably ranked higher with original content (you know, like bluREU had), although the moleman intro was really impressive with its fast cuts and multiple platforms demos.
sounds and looks awesome for the machines capability, whats the bitrate of the video?

This is great great stuff.

The Youtube video was strange though, like it takes a pause every now and then.

So here's a better one (I hope): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqXnJXmF1Y4

Thanks a lot Evil for putting up a better version ! I thought the "pause" in the video was due to the replayer limitations but wow it looks way better now !

A M A Z I N G !
amazing!

Thx Evil for the new capture and all of you for your positive feedbacks.

It is smooth at a regular 12.5fps and there is no compression, under youtube it still pauses a little and there are artefacts due to the compression...

See it live under emulators or even best on the real hardware if you can ! :-)

STay Atari !

Hmm, lemme upthumb your actual Tool (once you uploaded it as "demotool") here on Pouet!
This "Presentation" gets a weak pig as you shouldn´t have shown Demos-Scenes instead of Real Footage! :p
See here!
awesome!

With this amazing new technology, I guess FMV games such as Microcosm, Chaos Control or Mad Dog McCree should now technically be possible on the ST :)

Technically possible perhaps. Whether something like Microcosm should be allowed to happen again is a matter for your conscience. ;-)

Someone has marked it as a demotool, you may now thumb it up. ;)

I encoded 2 new videos on youtube, even if it's always better to look at it on real hardware or emu, 14 min of the best of the PC demo and a colorful hdr timelapse of Tokyo (with the courtesy of its author). Nativ ST video files (.CAV) are on the dropbox (see 1st comment).
Can you explain how your battle cry "Stay Atari" would be compatible with people rendering video on a PC and just export them as a binary using your tool? Seems to me they'd spend most of the time making the video good on the PC.

Photon: If you didn't post that comment from your unexpanded A500 I would be rather disappointed indeed :)

Not to mention that any prod ever created on an emulator, or just using PC graphics and sound tools to create stuff for older systems should be stricken from the record! ;-)

Photon:
Obviously you know nothing how hard this is on the Atari side of things. Just to make your own Spectrum-(like) display mode is no easy feat, but keeping the display alive and -stable- while using ACSI harddrive DMA to stream data is almost surreal.

It doesn't matter where the movie data is created, it's the player that got me scratching my head, and not just a little.

And by that I don't mean that Cygs encoder is an easy task either, but the Atari tech behind this is just wow.

My own little documentation:

HOW TO:

NOTE: ST work, but has less colors and no sound!!! Use STE!!!

STE: Drag and drop any .CAV file on NP158DE.TTP icon.
ST: click on NP158DE.TTP and type full name of the .CAV file.

TESTED:

Hatari and Steem SSE in ST TOS 1.04 and STE TOS 2.06 mode, WORKING!!!

Nice breakthru for a STe!

just to clarify, you watched recording from ST not STe.
On the latest one, palette should be smother (palette 512 vs 4096)
