Sorry, no. I can't stand any more super-relaxed poem demo stuff. So not my cup of tea

I adore the music and the scene on the screenshot. This is "proper" "scenepoetry" since there is a connection between the story and the visuals and not just random disconnected gibberish. Easily in my top-5 of the compo.

Not my personal cup of tea, but I do appreciate the work put in for telling a story with these kind of visuals.

piggy for the soundtrack.

+++ for the soundtrack, which is great .. but does not fit to this, in my opinion. Also -- for the font. So-so on the visuals.

As the year are passing you get less and less things on the screen. Give me fairytales back

@Hopper/SquoQuo That's like complaining about Metallica because you can't stand distorted guitars.
But it's true, this isn't his most inspired production

ambience and poetry, relaxing, different, maybe not so awesome but I still liked this..

Scene poetry doesn't have to be bad.
Well constructed atmosphere here. And it totally feels complete.
If I'd change one thing it'd be the font. I can't stand Arial. Helvetica Light would be fitting here.

Scene poetry.
sucks added on the 2013-04-02 17:56:35 by rp rp
The only time scene poetry ever "worked" for me as a concept was in bakkslide7, where it was a visually subdued, but powerful element, where it contrasted and complemented great effects, timing and music.

This looks and feels more like a homage to decade old replay intros, with their hang-out-to-dry style of presenting words and images, just without the usually neat music. You really need some cute tune to go along with this, I think, it's just too empty and bland otherwise.

Shame that visuals do not corespond with poetry....
Didn't worked at the party and although the story is kinda nice at home, I dislike the metrum. If you're going to use words to convey a message, make them count. I get the whole snow&mist thing but so much white isn't realy helping. Tried watching the whole thing twice but failed on both accounts sorry. Otherwise keep it up, nothing wrong with the intention or the idea behind it. Imho there is nothing wrong with scene poetry as long as it is making a point or helps in telling a story. Poetry in general is just freakin' awesome when done right.

Nicely minimalistic, even if it is obvious this won't work on the bigscreen with drunk sceners late at night :) Thumb up for containing 0% of factory flyby.

I don't usually comment on my own productions, but I'll make an exception in this case since this one is kind of personal to me. It is not really a conventional demo or meant as such, I knew full well that it wouldn't work on the big screen at all (multiple people who saw a preview said so and it's just common sense anyway) and I am the first one to admit that it could really use a lot of polish. However, I still wanted to release it and I've gotten very good feedback on this privately and that's what mostly matters to me.

To everyone who thumbed it down, I agree with you guys. It's slow and very minimal and not really entertaining, but that is not the point here. The point for me is the text itself and to give it more emphasis, the visuals needed to be really downscaled. I only wish I'd had the time to make proper effects and polish for it and I was actually thinking of dropping all the visuals except the second part with the tree thing, but that would have been too harsh. As I wrote on the infofile, I am sorry to have made you drunken party people watch something like this. When I next make an ambient poem demo (because I will), go fetch a beer or take a well-deserved pee break ;)

For me, this was one of the most difficult productions I've ever made, mostly because the poem is a very personal thing. It existed long before any parts of the demo did and it wasn't just simply added on top. The very first thing I coded for this was the text writer and the timing for the text itself. There was also a huge lack of time and motivation. Fixing this thing to a condition that could be shown to others was awfully hard for me and I almost threw it away. However, the awesome party fixed my motivational and metaphysical issues and now it's time to get creative again.

Finally, you will get your fairytales and modern art fireworks next time. That's a promise.

Not a good party piece for sure, but I like it. I'm not 100% convinced that the visuals match the poetry well, but the poem is good and I love the music. Will watch again a few times for a better opinion on the visuals :)

My problem with this is that it puts the bar way too high: ambient minimal is a strictly hit-and-miss. (Especially at a large party, but that's not really the point.)

Some of the stuff in there is great, but it falls a bit flat on its face because the text is disconnected from the effect and they're happening at the same time so you have to split your attention and on the first viewing, you're gonna miss out on one either way.

I've been playing Antichamber recently, and it has a very similar aesthetic to this, but it's different in that there was great care ensured by the creators to keep the player focusing on the "right" things even though the game is meant to be confusing and paradoxical. I feel the same approach would've helped here, perhaps alternating the text and the effects so that they feel like a logical sequence to each other.

Nice visuals and sound, but I don't understand poetry, particularly in languages other than my mother tongue. I want demos to be purely about aesthetics and awe. Just like house and jazz music. When the storyline and (shrug) poetry demos appeared in the 90s, I thought it was absolutely horrible, and something that must be stopped. Like some teenage nerd interrupting a hot and sweaty jazz act to read poems about their Weltschmerz or something. Yeah ok the world sucks, that's why we're trying to have a good time here... ;) (Nowadays I tolerate the existence of scene poetry, I don't try to actively mock it)

the audio is quite nice, the demo itself requires the right mood to 'get it', i guess :)

Funny, here I was thinking that this is actually one of my productions that I care the most about. It's a big step forward for me in so many ways and a harbinger of things to come. But, as said before, the next ones will be quite different. Maybe then you can grace them with a thumb up or even a piggy.

The poem was pretty intriguing even though some parts were somewhat cumbersome and I had a hard time imaging it being read out loud. The visuals were connected to the text, and it was luckily done with good taste.

I personally don't care what others think of this demo. As an artisitic piece of work, I think this is fantastic. The ambient sound is of a quality standard, love the subtle heartbeat 2 beat kick that really gives a sense of time, and the atmospheric pads give a great sense of space, connected well with the poetry and visual elements.

Party people won't appreciate it but I do. I believe this is a fantastic composition and a highly expressive piece of art...
