For information:
This one only runs on the TO8 computer (for memory constraints), but uses the TO7-70 video mode, that is, fixed 16-color palette, and 8x1 blocks (2 colors per block).

Not bad, I believe that libpipi would give better results at converting the pictures without the weird dithering.

Going to thumb up for the platform and the effort on transition effects, but basically the idea of using the TO7-70 mode on a TO8 is weird: You managed at the same time to cut the user base of TO7 users, while not using any TO8 feature. Some sound would have been welcome too.

PS: http://dcmoto.free.fr/win/programs/puls-truc70.zip works.

Thanks for the thumb. ;-)

Actually the dithering is the one that seemed to work best amongst any other I tried. It is the same dithering technique as the one used in TruC40 but this time the palette is fixed. It works very well in that other prod too.

I don't know what you consider weird in the dithering. Maybe it is the typical 8x1 alternating bands that appears. This is somehow a feature that I appreciate because it reminds me of the drawing technique that was used in some beatiful games for this platform (here or there)

Sound is one of the big issues for thomson machines. The CPU is so slow that one can either do video or produce sound, but hardly both. Actually very few production uses sound and video effects in the same time (Big Crunch in "Space project" is one of these).

Some specific features of the TO8 are actually used:
- double buffering during image transitition,
- fast load of pictures by préhisto routine.
However you are right. This demo could have partly worked on a plain TO7 machine with simpler transitions effects (and more flickering) and to accomodate for the long loading time, the audio chanel of the tape could have played music (like the WAV file for this game: http://dcmoto.free.fr/programmes/les-7-magiciens/index.html). But a 2hours tape would have been mandatory because this demo is 640Kb and the tape-hardware is only running at 900bauds.

Maybe the tape will be used in a future prod.. who knows.

By the way a video is available here: http://www.serveur87.com/forumthomson/forum2010/presentations2.html
