I started sweating when i saw this. It's a good thing. Rules!
Luv!
music did it for me
Once again another masterpiece... Thanks to Smash and Desktop... Really enjoyed it!
Yup! =) Dope stuff!
hunz!
Yes don´t forget about Hunz! ;)
Hope there won't be another soundtrack controversy, as this one here makes the whole magic, for me at least.
<3 <3 <3
So beautiful! Amazing visuals, breathtaking music.... Love it!
the music does it
Hunz! Louie! Fairlight! CNCD! \o/
A little more combination with "standard" effects would've been great. Liked the opening sequence very much and the song - which makes it a clear upper.
But what was that odd burning bird in the final scene xD
it was a fucking phoenix... muahaha what a blast

Yeah, the final scene is weird. The only thing that feels unpolished :-)
I also want to complain about using the blow-up-the-buildings effect eight times or something. Now, I've used up all my complaints. The rest is <3 <3 <3.

tv-clip, but not demo.
static link plz... :(
dodge: it was a quake symbol, I'm telling ya
recycled but very good
I had no fucking idea what was going on during the compo, but I know I love it!
Ossom effects and models!
Incredible
out of words...
splendid radiohead video, still liked agenda more
Way better than ASD demo imho. Coherent flowing scenes with one, reused, but still spectacular effect and nice music.
FTW!
FTW!
Couldn't the static meshes be some dotty dotty textured flat surfaces just so my gfx could run this half decently?
The only downside is that it almost looks like a music video.

jaw dropping
i love the soundtrack! the particle system still looks great, too even tho it doesnt run at full fps on my machine.
Awesome work, the composition of the scene at the start with the flaring match is just beautiful.
The scene before the tiki heads appears to be nvidia only, I get a blackness on ati.

Okay just admit it -- Fairlight, CNCD -- you hate GPUs and want them all to burn to death.
great to see a demo using soundtrack by hunz for a change. the water and building disolving scenes were great.
too slow with GeForce 9600 256MB on my msi laptop
81.8 MB? Wasn't the size limit 64 MB ;)
ran at nowhere near enjoyable speed here most of the time ([email protected], 9800GT, 4GB, WinXP) but from what I gathered I'm unsure about the visuals. Particles are certainly fun ... but not exactly something a demo should be completely based on ... especially when the current hardware limits still make them look grainy
Soundtrack is a fucking killer tho ... loved the glitching at the end.

awesome!
gonna have to stick with my previous statement, even tho the street scenes certainly have something I can't describe. But props for handing out a recording so quickly wullon :)
Not a fan of the music and the ending was painful, but it's still pretty much a must-see.
Shockwav3>props to asmtv ;) (http://www.scene.org/dir.php?dir=%2Fparties%2F2010%2Fassembly10%2Fvod/)
Killer production! Hunz is god.
I was positively surprised and I totally loved the soundtrack that fit the visuals extremely well. It even manages to make one a bit sad, being such a sentimental song, a rare for a demotrack.
really nice, hunz's song is great, and I'm happy to see our good old Louie500 around again :)
Outstanding level of detail, excellent visuals. Great atmosphere, thanks to the soundtrack (after Blunderbuss I have to say again that Radiohead and Keane meets demoscene here. And I really like that!)
Thumbs up for Quake! j/k...
Still amazing. Imagine what they could do with lines!!!11 ;)
One pixel = One particle just rules. Music does .. not sure :)
Hunz!
but the file size...
but the file size...
how do you model these things with so much detail! very nice!
crap. thumb.
Lovely soundtrack, visuals were good yet again too, and there were some VERY nice scenes (streets, submerges subway station), but somehow it didn't feel like a "whole" as much as Agenda. Still, amazing...
Contrary to stjin i felt this did feel more like a complete, connected, and whole product more than Agenda. As xernobyl said it's like a music video, and I love that, soundtrack is totally awesome and the visuals connect to it perfectly, i could watch this "demo" over and over :)
Already watched this 6 times now.
What can I say? It's amazing.
What can I say? It's amazing.
Wow!
I definitely like this more than Agenda, uses the same technique but in better ways and in a more likeable for me demo (more beautiful scenes, nice music from Hunz).
I love the beginning (which is one of the few parts that still run at a decent speed in my laptop) and the end. Love the water particles too, exploding houses, real 3d stuff with all those massive point sprites.
What can I say? I watched it in slow deadly motion and still liked it. Something that didn't happened before for some reasons with Agenda demo. I gotta see the video now. It's gonna be more awesome..

Slow but lovely, a definite improvement on agenda.
Finally, after years of trying and improving, Fairlight & CNCD reached their goal of making the perfect demo. The world may now.
wonderful. Had to watch the video.
Disobeyed warning and tried running this on 9400 GT. Crash my WinXP hard.

nice
What a beauty! And it's great to hear Hunz again.
Good music and nice presentation.
just wow!
Nice atmosphere and visuals! Like it.
The music is awesome and the demo is really nice but too slow even with my 280 GTX.
It's remind my entrelaced raytracing demo of the middle of 90 who run at 5 fps. And the synchros glitches are too much and too frequent with a low fps it's seems that tey are real bugs...

Now that's a demo. Damn. You guys can make even slow flybys in gray cityscapes not boring. Certain competing groups might want to take notes.
Awesome! I now want to change my old gfx card, those lastest demos are just f*g incredible.
Very enjoyable visuals with the particules that fit with a music that gave me shiver.

Pretty MASSIVE!
Where's the video?
Absolutely great in every way and please release the soundtrack.
Bored me, but still a nice demo.
Stunning visuals, time to buy new gfx card it seems!! :P
@paniq: on scene.org.
like it
Definitely a nice one, even if it's pretty much rendering static scenes as particles + some distortion.
Waiting for the fixed version with screens that don't shock.
Radiohead. :)
good, but felt somehow a bit unfinished
Very good, I am having a hard time deciding between this and Happiness is Around the Bend.
Thanks a lot for giving us a great demo compo experience once more.
However I gotta say the shading on the flames didn't really match the rest of the shading. Amazing nevertheless and thanks for the breakdown of the scene during the seminar Smash. :)

massive.
Sweet soundtrack, great great visuals. The "loss of focus" effect down in the water-pits was a crazy good detail that really did something for me. For some reason.
Not sure if I approve of the glitching in the end btw. But then again, it is sort of interesting.
very nice. what was the story about the phoenix again?
Yes of course. Simply beautiful :)
i love carillon & cyberiad & fairlight
The demo is great. But I hate the music.
so we had many particles, now we have shitloads of particles. whats next? infinite particles? :)
but seriously, this demo is quite perfect. visually and technically amazing scenes which are supported by the great soundtrack.

this new particle direction just gets better, amd the excellent tune was several layers of thick icing on the cake
Very nice even though it seemed like recycled agenda. I hoped you would have played more with your magic particles, now it seemed very much like a single effect demo (unlike agenda). Music rules.
This is really some good stuff. It feels like the better demo compared to ASD, although im sure that the ASD one took alot more effort. Its a total slide show on my HD5850 though.
This could be a real music video.
(and ofc some will hate it for that)

The quality of the vocals is amazing. Say, they are not taken from some commercial track again?
Really great visuals and soundtrack!
Utterly awesome stuff.
Technically this is incredible, but superficially I didn't really like it.
I found the music too boring and whiny. I also felt the design was lacking and the glitching and transitions just felt awkward.
That said, there's no way I could thumb down such advanced coding skills and innovation.

not a fan of the vocalist but great visuals
.
.
i couldnt help shaking the feeling of "we STILL have particles", but it works really well with the concept here. overall an incredibly professional work.
OH YES! Fantastic demo, and a totally awesome soundtrack by Hunz!
They again managed to raise the quality bar a little higher. The fire effect at the beginning is just awesome and the soundtrack is ace.
Congrats guys !
Congrats guys !
Nice, and unlike most people i like the music...
Wow! One step further again. I especially liked the water.
Amazing music!
Amazing!!! particle effect!
Amazing flow!
Amazing design!
What a dream team! Amazing Demo!

Cool..
Utter ownage. And nice to see the particles moving on in creativity
Reminds me so much of Radioheads "Go to Sleep" video in so many ways! This is NOT a bad thing! Everything about the demo just screams "LOOK AT ME AND FAP 'TILL YOU BLEED!" On the strength of the track used, i'll be getting the album! Great work guys, you made me cry............. AGAIN!!!! \:D/
Both technically and atmospherically, I find this prod to be superior to ASD's entry in the compo.
Still, it is "only" one huge single-effect demo (but what an effect this is!)
Anyway, big thumb up

awesome
video capture please, I'd love to watch it! Thanks
stunning prod, certainly taxes my machine :) Some scenes i would have liked to see for longer, and without the jiggly/wiggy screenshaking stuff to appreciate them more.
hunz.
can't run it decently on my "old Hardware Q9450 + HD4870 so watched the video and
i was smashed by the show , technically very advanced & impressive , more than "Agenda Circling Forth" the music & direction are great..

What is a reliable place to download MSVCP71.dll?
Thank you.
Thank you.
dll-files.com
requiring a microsoft DLL from 2003 that you can not downloaded through official channels anymore sucks. hey, the thing is 80 MB big, can't you link statically?
Hmm... Technically and artistically impressive and this prod will probably be admired by people not normally "into" demos, but nevertheless, it's not quite my cup of tea. Therefore piggy.
After watching it several times, it is still outstanding. It does not matter, if particles has been used in many other demos. As long as a demo entertains, like this one, it is acceptable.
beautiful stuff
Very boring, and big cut and paste of their previous demo, with only a few changes. ASD demo is far away better with a lot more work involved, even if it is also some rework of their older releases
like Spengler said. Boring&Slow.
Yes, I know about dll-files.com, but I doubt that is actually a reliable website...
For those in awe of Hunz' soundtrack:

Buy the album (also available on iTunes, and probably several other places)

Yeah, the FLT "everything-is-a-particle"-engine taken yet one step further.
Fluid/wave simulations looks really good.
Runs a bit slow for me, even at really low res (especially the part with the balls flying above the water). Perhaps the engine likes nvidia cards better?
Anyway, both technically and designwise, this is brilliant, it got a very professional-trendy-design-studio feel to it, music is also of pro quality.
Only minor complaint is that the glitching is a bit too extreme in the end, maybe that's why people missed the "fucking phoenix" ;)

ok
brill! what is the 'decode' in the water about?
Amazing!
emotional depth due to imaginative visuals and a heartfelt soundtrack.
as smash said it's all about finding a niche. Congrats for slowly transcending this way into areas of mass appeal one particle at a time

Hah!
As it has been said before, beautiful radiohead style demo :)
The music is nice, atmosphere too, so pity it's so slow ... Complex scenes make slow demos, too bad ... For when such demos with 60 frames per sec ? :)

Preferred Agenda, but this one had some high points. Loved the buildings dissolving and water scene. Great work!
Another killer demo from Fairlight&CNCD.
I love the technical excellence of this demo, those millions of particles and uber awesome water shows that there are almost no limits to the mighty Fairlight code wizard smash :)
The content is also amazing, excellent track linked with excellent scenes.

Watching Smash seminar before watching the demo seriously affected my experience with this one. On the seminar he talked about these buildings exploding effect, with all the NDA joke and everything but he didn't showed the actual result.
Well, it's hard to compete with imagination. What I imagined was a much nicer than what I saw. Oh well.
It was great to see hunz back, I was seriously considering using one of his tunes to bring him back but I'm glad someone else did before me.
As someone has mention, it does indeed have a Radiohead - House of Cards. Feeling similarities (music style + particle cities + 3d deformations).
I find the 2d distortions really removes a lot of the particle magic. I would have done 3d distortions of the particles on those sync points.
However, it's a really nice show and it has a couple of memorable effects.

Very good stuff as usual Smash, although I hope the next one will be about something different from particules and fluids ;)
Pretty awesome. Feels less of an experiment and more of a typical FLT/CNCD demo.
Also, the capped video atm is pretty stuttery, I'll be replacing it as well as uploading a 1080p/720p capture soon.

Much more my cup of tea already! :] But can someone please capture this on a decent machine to I can watch and thumb this. Runs slow like hell on my laptop... Eeek!! k watched it on capped! Awesome! Even more thumb than the last particle-demo!! :]
Oh SHIT :D! I wish to much that I could've seen this on the big screen. Just so BEAUTIFUL! The fire effects, the underground water sequences, the buildings being torn apart. This looks more technically advanced than "Agenda..." and the music is very moody. Sounds a bit like Radiohead actually :). Very, VERY nice!
Oh! Now I see it! IT'S A FUCKING PHOENIX AT THE END!!!

soundtrack extracted directly from the demo in glorious v2 vbr.

I like Agenda better, but this one is touching as well.
Very impressive dots, however the awful whining vocal track almost ruins the demo.
totally slow on gtx260. can't keep on buying a new gfx card every few months to watch new demos :(
Wth? Ok maybe the time explains something :D
i stopped counting the dots after 2 min. really great work :)
Should've won!
awesome, like Radiohead for the scene. Just stunning!
i cant figure out, while with such awesome details in this demo, u cant make a match burn away if u put fire on top of it. nevertheless, awesome demo
very very good
only one weak side: there was agenda before that.
MASSIVE. nice use of agenda engine, the water is awesome.
MASSIVE. nice use of agenda engine, the water is awesome.
Didn't like the first part but the awesome water effects really save it for me. Very impressive.
Except at the beginning and at the end, the demo doesn't do justice to the soundtrack.
But I know it's hard :)
But I know it's hard :)

What diver said.
particle madness!
Fairlight, I love you.
never ever stop!
Fuck yeah!!
So how much of the dot processing is done in the vertex processor? I don't understand how you do shading. Are you using some other rendering technique aside from "fuck load of dots" and applying shadow and shading stuffs to the dots or is it all processed with the dots? If it's all just with dots, I don't get it. I understand that the dots move around sometimes gravitating towards a parent object interpolating their position and possibly a normal (for the reflective spheres, reflecting off a cube-map or something) but keeping their color. Do the dots get shaded by the world of dots? or is this pre-computed and static as they move around? It's a neat effect

sigflup: It's almost all done in various pixelshaders. There's a long post on the techniques used in Agenda Circling Forth in this blog post by Smash, and presumably Ceasefire uses the same basic concepts.
agenda was appealing, this isn´t
I'm speechless. The subway station gave me goosebumps.
I liked Agenda Circling Forth better, but guess you have to blow shit up in your demo if you want a shot at Assembly. It's coo'.
Oh, and the soundtrack is really, really nice! How did you get Thom Yorke to sing the lyrics? :)
Oh god, please yes, more of this! Moar!
water sequence has 181 pixels in excess as I took my time to count
but still good to watch
but still good to watch
cant thumb it up as i hate VOCALS in demos !
good job on code and visuals ;)
wont ever rewatch due to the music i really HATE !

Stunning! but it doesn't work on my PC, hurry up and release the fixed version plz.
Also ... the video was smaller than the demo, something is very wrong here :)

Impressive, but gave me nothing.
Water looks good, music is well produced.
Just not my cup of tea, I guess.

Demo got too choppy after the candle scene on my old PC. http://alpha.zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/computers.txt (Windows box). Even exiting took a while Is it because of my ATI Radeon 4870 video card with 512 MB of VRAM? I think it is because Windows XP Pro. SP3's task manager showed 2.2 GB of peak memory (commit charge)! :(
I watched the MP4 video capture. It was OK. Music was decent.

madness
maybe not a typical demo, but definitely awesome!
Yeah, it could be a Radiohead music video. Great particles and fluids.
Everything was amazing. Well done. However, glitching all over that phoenix really, I wouldn't say annoyed, more disappointed that I couldn't see the thing in all it's magnificence, it dampened the effect with a bit of frustration on what I kinda hoped would be the climactic part. Thanks for doing this stuff, though. I think I might be just echoing what others have said but I find your contributions are exremely appreciated.
That's neither a phoenix nor a quake logo.
What it is is plainly a tribute to the Wu-Tang Clan.

Excellent demo! I liked the music also.. There's no need to go all demosceney for it to work! Thumbs up ofcourse!
Ok it s'really a good demo.
But agenda was better from my point of view

Pretty good eh. My mobile can do better though but thumb up for good try in any case. Better luck next time.
This was AWESOME!!
Getting Hunz back to the scene (or actually vice versa :) deserves a thumb up alone. And when it's combined by such a fine selection of visuals the result very much reassures me of why i'm still in this after all those years.
Only downside: Some of the static backgrounds feel too... static. I can understand the ppl who said "Agenda was better" because in Agenda it felt like there was more going on everywhere. But that's just a small nitpick.
Also: Yes, buy the album. And if you've still got reservations, download Hunz' free album "Thoughts that Move" first. Should be enough to get you hooked. :)

Loving the creds part in the beginning, the waves always do it for me and it was clear from the beginning it was a phoenix!
I bet it would be just so easy for Smash & co to beat up ASD in the solid 3D game if they wanted to, but I can't nothing but appreciate taking different directions and keeping up the "hack up a demo in two weeks" -spirit :)

Hunz is back. The techniques from "Agenda" are back (but way better utilized IMHO). Totally awesome show, just wow.
well done
@gloom: hunz never really left :)
good music, lovely exploding buildings scene and nothing more. combination of this particular vvisuals and music doesn't work for me this time. just a piggy. i preciate the effort of making this anyway.
well, the credit scene is cool and the exploding city has it's moments but as a whole demo it doesn't manage to effect me.
the music is well-balanced without any doubt. but the radiohead vibe is too obvious aand doesn't help the visuals.

WOW
Feels like a Radiohead music video, which is a good thing (for me at least).

Massive work, but only watchable with the biggest GPU available? Thats NOT my cup of tea, sorry!
Probably the best soundtrack with vocals of all times.
Huge visuals too.

also
music is not my cup of tea, but still (of course):
Let me start by saying that a thumb up is the only option for this demo. I can't see how it is possible that one is not moved by what we see and hear in this performance.
Ceasefire continues the great particle saga (and I do think there is room for a final third demo) started earlier this year with agenda circling forth. Whether you like this ceasefire or agenda more is a matter of personal taste. I find agenda more esoteric and artistic while ceasefire is a better presentation of the high-end code. Both demos are understated and (may I say) overlooked.
But I also think that this time Fairlight has fallen victim of the limitations of their own technology. While watching it you feel that so much more could have been made using a slightly more active camera and a more imaginative movement of particles. But these additions (I assume) cannot happen that easily, as technology dictates where and how camera has to move. And that, in a way, is a shame.
In any case, this is one of those rare demos that people outside the scene will talk about for a long time. And that give it another thumb up from me.

That was a lot of particles.
This felt very well packaged with both technical skillz and style but without any need for an agressive direction which is helped by the soundtrack. This sort of signature is a clear winner in my eyes. If anyone did not see the presentation Smash gave on Saturday at Assembly which included the tech involved then I would definately recommend you to watch it. you will learn a lot or even if you arent technically minded and you will appreciate the recent flt releases even more from the sheer volume of processes / passes these effects / scenes take.
Simply stunning (just like agenda btw), hoping for new epic fx used in the next demo though...
One effect demo but what an effect and used in so many different ways! and the particles syncing is just... astounding! The music is really cool but it sounds more like a commercial music than a demo music. Anyway, who cares! :)
very good soundtrack, and enjoyable demo :) thumbs up !
I'm going to thumb up, because it's high quality stuff, but I don't like the demo itself, will certainly not watch it again soon.
That being said, it's interesting to see that the demo from ASD and that one have similar reaction from people, many people loving each demo, but significant numbers of individual loving or hating particular parts of each demo. For each person saying they hate the guitar in aMusic's piece you can find another person saying that the music is awesome, similar thing with the lyrics in Ceasefire :)

This has instantly become one of my favorite demos. As an artist I don't really know what goes on behing the courtain, code-wise. I try to ask a few questions and most of the time the answer makes sense to me. I have tried to code simple things and they worked 50% of the time. I have only the faintest idea of how this is done.
All this to say my favorite thing about the demoscene is the cool surprises that come from it. This is a demo I can show anyone and believe they will appreciate it. Some can see it as a music video or a short film. It's a bit beyond scene aesthetics. It's gorgeous. It's not too much like a music video, it's way better.
The song took me by surprise, I really liked it and it reminds me of Radiohead (the whole demo reminds me of the "Go to Sleep" video). It's really good checking the comments out and not seeing the shitstorm that wetn on last time.
This is why I love the demoscene.

I remember myself deciding again to leave the demoscene (from the coders' perspective) after watching this demo :)
It's too difficult to really compete with prods like this.
The music captivated me from the very first second, and the burning match at the beginning, with the music, represents one of the best demoscene moments I have experienced this year. but not everything is nice with this prod.
I felt a lack of coherence between the scenes, a nonsense. We move from fire to water, from someone floating in the microverse to balls moving through a channel in the city... and the end is too easy. I was expecting a grand finale, something glorious, empowered by the soundtrack, instead of a crescendo of noise and distortions that suddenly turn to silence.
Only for the first ten seconds, the thumb up is instantaneous, but as the checkboxes have misteriously dissapeared from pouet i will do it later

This is epic. I have no doubt that its prods like this that could make the demoscene mainstream art. Whether that's a good thing or not I'm not sure, but this has massive appeal for a huge audience. Absolutely stunning.
nice
great work, I love it!
"this prod rulez"
Nice style, didn't keep me entertained for long though. A poor imitation of a Radiohead sound track. And I didn't recognize the FUCKING PHOENIX.
誕生日おめで{ 92;う!!!
Some of the scenes didn't really suit the display technique, and I didn't think the flames sat well in it at all, but the music was cool, and it was a good prod overall.
I like it much more than 'agenda', for some reason. Well done, all!
This thumb is for the super cool "hair"-effect at the beginning of this demo. As with the ASD-demo, it's the newest effect that lifts the production in to something really great, imo.
Lovely unlimited ribbons with glow effect at the start :)
The rest: obviously great but it didn't catch me the way agenda did, I guess 50% due to the music (which is great, but just not quite my taste) and 50% because of the rendering (which rules, but it's like those red/blue 3d glasses, the 3d effect is cool but it's not something I'd want for my daily tv viewing).
Still incredible work, technically amazing and the design + scenes were brilliant.

Toll! Alles toll!
what i like most about this production is that it seems to me that there is an idea behind it which kind of influences the whole thing, not a style showdown, no boombastic mixture of state of the art stuff, i sort of remains simple and on the spot but still blows your mind! i miss that a lot in most demos! (not excactly sure if anyone knows what i'm talking about)
anyway, here's my regular comment: I DIG YOUR STYLE MORE AND MORE EVERY TIME!
anyway, here's my regular comment: I DIG YOUR STYLE MORE AND MORE EVERY TIME!
Beware of not becoming a gimmick! Music is awesome and I really like the glitching in the direction as well.
Some minor issues here and there (timing's off in the explosion part, ugly pipe/candle mesh in the final part...) and a soundtrack that is not easy to get used to (although I admit that it's catchy in a way). But yeah, after media error and the BP '10 one, this is the 3rd modern day flt pc demo that I think works very well.
Some slow parts on a GTX 260 (though I probably shouldn't be one to complain, hehe).
Really cool, probably one of my favorite demo soundtracks of all time! The only thing I didn't like was that on parts (flaming tiki heads for example) the bottoms of the flames looked a bit cheap...Still, this to me was like what Agenda Circling Forth should've been. Thank you :)

I'd like to add to my previous comment that the soundtrack is freaking great.
total particle domination
awesome prod!!!!!!!!!
wow gives me goose pimpels
music ++ :D hunz
music ++ :D hunz
Has all the good Fairlight stuff
nope
nice one (but why are the drums in the soundtrack mixed horribly?)
Fairlight are back with their amazing particles worlds... Superb, once again... although there was more beauty in "Agenda" maybe...
About the music by Hunz: well... <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 I'm completely charmed! :)

jop
liked the hunz tune, except for the drums and their arrange.
visuals are pretty familiar by now, but the scenes they made up, were great.
besides that, it's quite disappointing to see that i invested quite some $$$ on a dedicated demo gfx-card (GTX 470), which still sucks performance-wise for nearly all new releases even at 720p without AA.
feels like a slideshow sometimes and i was shocked to see that sometimes more than 1100MiB of VRAM were used. :o
so what do i need to run this at reasonable framerates? 1.000$ SLI?

youtube caps at 30fps ;)
just amazing
I've got nothing to add.
1080p plz
particles are the new polygons :o
nice
micksam7, thanks for MP4 video.
Well, I must say that I don't like the glitch frames with glitch sound...
Well, I must say that I don't like the glitch frames with glitch sound...
The only thing I don't like about this is that it doesn't run at all well on my machine (280GTX, 8GB RAM, 2.66GHz i7). :/
smash: I'll have a look at it when I'm back from work. If my memory does not fail me though, it was low framerate overall, no dips or peaks. I'll send you my specs, framerate and other stuff in a mail instead of filling the comment-field here.
Another stunning production from the captains of the demoscene. Always steering realtime graphics into new waters, utilizing new ideas to create awsome effects topped off with great aesthetics. I salute you!
here's a more detailed report on performance:
http://www.keith303.i24.cc/temp/ceasefire_fps.xlsx
also on 720p, it still takes 1GB+ of VRAM at times btw ;)

Well, on my intel quad core 2.8 ghz with ATi 4870 x2 2gb this is like...5-10fps. GPU clock 800 and memory clock 1000mhz.
It seems that this demo is not ATi friendly again...or is it something else ;)

smash: I retract my "slow all the time"-statement. It must have been a combination of old drivers and long-time-since-last-reboot and selecting 1680x1050 as a resolution the last time. Today the demo ran (in 1280x720) much, much faster. There are some slowdowns however, most notably in the beginning of the reflective balls-scene, and whenever there is fullscreen glitch-distortion going on.
smash: Sure, but because the FPS falls to below 15 in certain places, the "slowdown effect" ends up being in the wrong place at the wrong time, which spoils it's beauty (because watching the 60 FPS video-capture, it is perhaps one of the best glitch/distort-effects I have ever seen).
+2 for a slow-burning tune that really fits the visuals.
+2 for the shifting sands visuals.
Automatic +1 for Fairlight (always an indication of Quality)
Final score: 5. This Prod Rulez!

I prefer, pantaloons code rather than smash.
great code, some nice ideas, but the constant artifical screen glitching made the whole fucking annyoing
Interesting demo...and to answer to someone that told me fire effects is not 2010 and it's the least lame, Kiss my fiery ass... I loved how the fire effect was used in this demo.
i don't really like the burning match at the beginning but after it's... it's... amazing !
wow, that was amazing. but nobody glitches like mfx!
i prefer, beer over wine.
Not a great technical achievement to my view. But artistic impression quite amazing with a special mention to the soundtrack.
fucking glitches
Great Soundtrack by Hunz, Nice Particles... Had an overall good flow - Good work :)
Even though the demo doesn't really appeal to my tastes, I just can't leave my vote as a pig when I see all the effort and innovation that's gone into this. The video capture runs better than it did on my PC and although the glitches seem too slow and intrusive, I did get a better look at the scenes and they looked great at times.
So here's my overdue thumb.
So here's my overdue thumb.
burning match is fucking ace... but overall an enjoyable demo, not as pictureperfect as ACF but great .. although the sync with glitches in the graphics and black screen pisses me off, that kind of effect is way to "powerfull" for this soundtrack, it should be used for graphics much less beautiful than these, here you want to see them all the time, not getting cut off all the time, would have been better without the noise syncs.
Just for the rendering engine.
The distortion effect is horrible and spoils the overall nice impression - the burning match saves it - a bit
In my opinion, some flames don't really fit, but music and known particle effects do the job. I'm looking forward to other flooded areas ^^
i prefer, girls over guys.
Mind blowing!
This really is the most beautiful demo I've seen for a very long time.
The music is building great atmosphere. And, yeah, the end is great for me - I always loved breaks and strong cuts. But the prod should have one more killer effect, as someone said. Anyway, amazing.
It crashes on my set, minus for that.
It crashes on my set, minus for that.
Good demo ruined by the video glitch effects, which were too strong and frequent, imho, making them horribly distracting.
i prefer, particles over rasterbars
My personal favourite in the compo, i liked every bit except for the soundtrack, which is definitely not my cup of tea on the vocals and beat sectors.
Besides that, you guys are just too good :)

nice work, but this demo works like a piece of sh!
sorry.
sorry.
this should've won.
HUNZ!
A joke.
Smash never been a good coder. He's volume shadow routine needs i7.

Effects, tricks, synch, illumination.
Pretty nice. Not just another 3d flyby, but a neat collection of interesting ideas.
Hunz! the music! is awesome!!!

Very nice. The music is cool, but sounds too much like a Radiohead B-side IMO.
Yes, quite nice and technically impressive ... but I'm glad that it didn't get first !
technically impressive, but still not enough particles to make a "proper" demo (for some meaning of "proper" that I cannot define). i think the hardware is still not there. got boring after the third "loadObject - apply curlnoise and sine", tho. i like dthe collision thing of the water particles with the columns in the parking area. and knowing smash (best coder of the demoscene?) I'm sure that that fire effect has some 3d-fluid-simulation or something crazy or well, a lot more into them that it seems.
Glad the particle tech got pushed forward (recycled forth?)
Only thing bothering me is the water in some scenes that clip with the nearplane, it breaks the illusion. Other than that it's pretty much the perfect demo: Good music, impressive tech and awesome graphics and direction to bind it all.

Hail thy mighty pixel-engine. You are so beautiful to watch, so breathtaking. I wonder if there is a pc-configuration this demo actually runs smoothly on. Maybe smash should stop using Nasa computers to develop demos so that we can watch them at home again :). Music made me almost switch off the demo, but volume control and visuals kept me going.
I don't have much of a comment other than this one rules
Wow. Thanks for this.
Doesnt run on my phenom 955 + 8GB + hd4850, but I saw it on Buenzli big screen and it was beutiful.
Smash will you ever optimize your demos for ATI?

Nice use of particles.
Best part imo : city explosions and waves

killer!
Wow. This is awsome. Very nice tune, too. rules!
For me this is surely one of the best Fairlight demos ever. Truly great music and visuals, even if I can't really enjoy it realtime. The only thing I would have left out are the glitches, which in my opinion are totally unnecessary.
Wish it won ASM10. It doesn't quite try to tell a story, aside from what the song lyrics give us. The ASD prod seems to try to continue the story of Life Force, but it's just so abstract that I can't follow it at all. This demo does what its authors intended, I don't need a degree in art to comprehend what they are doing, the music is sexy, the effects are sexy. What's not to like? 10/10.
u_u
Will there be a non real time version of this? With better particle sorting and more particles?
I don't like the cool particle engine as much as I dislike the glitchy visuals. Having to look hard for the occasional place where the particle stuff works visually, only then to be distracted by massive "edgy" flicker all of a sudden, it doesn't do it for me.
Cool fires, though.
Cool fires, though.
I didn't like the glitches all along the demo.
But this won't make it lose its thumb for the rest of the awesomeness ;-)

smash: damn you and your hardware-pushing demos. 470 GTX-upgrade in place and now it runs almost perfect :)
very nice soundtrack and strong modelling as always, but the visuals didn't catch my attention this time.
less particles, more triangles and more fps next time :)

Very nice! (Voxel storydemo?) Is it just me or does the music remind anyone else of Radiohead?
amazing demo, and nice music :)
Beautiful demo, beautiful demo.
There are some glitches, the fire doesn't seem to fit in.
More credit should have been given to the soundtrack here as well. I see that there is consent of the artist but still can't be seen as a full part of the production.

I believe there might come a time
When my graphics card will give up and cry
Just no hope to run this thing
Even on the lowest settings
And it could all fall down
And it could all fall apart now
My GPU could melt to slag
And the demo stops right here
Who will care when the chips all drop
Those with quad-SLI will look down on us
Mere mortals shuffled off to YouTube
And only the gods are left to see
I await with bated breath
These circuits doomed to a fiery death
Clocking only slows it down
I'd water-cool but I would drown
And it could all fall down

The only prod that scared me enough to exit it before it really ends because I thought the artifacts were due to my GFX card overheating.
Then I found out that the artifact simulation is intentional o.o
So, so scary, its cool.

Okey it looks like we can get rid of obsolete polygon-based rendering altogether and switch to particles already.
And once again - please oh please don't do vocals to scene music, it's as sucky as scene poetry. At least provide a non-vocal mix and GUI with "NO FUCKING VOCALS" option.

Couldn't disagree more. I think especially the musical aspect of the demoscene really needs to detach itself from these antiquated formulas, such as having pretty much exclusively instrumental music in demos. I think the vocals in this demo really add much needed depth to the overall picture.

Over-reacted vocals like the cry-like ones in this demo limit the overall impression to sadness, and this demo has enough wow-factor to make me feel HIGH. It's annoying, they missed.
Demos and vocals just don't play well, unless someone REALLY knows what he's doing.
Wonderful
I liked the beginning and the water.
The burning match is just awesome - rest of demo is of course fine too :)
Made a 1080p Youtube Rip for it
Ceasefire (all falls down..) by Carillon & Cyberiad & Fairlight (1080p)

Goosebumps all over! Although i think almost everything about this demo has already been said, i´d like to point out one thing: Smash, please continue using vocal msx on your demos! Someone (i think noby was 1st) sed something about antiquated formulas, and i couldn´t agree more. In the meanwhile there are some FLT prods with vocal msx, and i tend to say those are enhancing the overall feeling and depth of the demo(s). And let´s just be serious: Who else but Hunz could underline this the most impressive way? But i´m fading away... this is a rulzor prod, like some other FLT stuff aswell. dot.
This is the really "demoscene made in 2011 year", not pseudooldschool shit!
Yeah yeah yeah!
Fantastic & original & modern graphics.
Cool music.
GUYS YOU'RE ROCKING!
*even if you still didn't made yourself to optimize this*

I don't like male vocals like this at all, but the rest undoubtedly deserves a thumb.
Late comment, but...
Loved the burning match and I liked the glitching too. I had been really hoping that this would be the Smash particle system demo in which objects / models were articulated, rather than their only motion capability (other than moving them around the shot) being to turn to smoke or explode. I look forward to seeing that happen. Design was good, as expected from modern FLT productions.

just bought the soundtrack :p
Heavy load for the gfx card...........
great demo. Runs smooth as butter on my GTX 670 at 1920x1200 (vsync+default aa) except for the mirror-balls part at around 1:40 which runs really slow. dunno why.
This is just consistently excellent. Awesome in every respect.
What, I didn't thumbed this up? How come!
It's much better than Agenda, but the similarity makes it less impressive. The metro station scene is my favourite.

Beautiful music
this could be great demo without those dumb glitches every 5 sec.
:)

I vaguely remember seeing this on the stream, and with all the others on IRC I was stunned - this was something I waited for to pop up on Pouet, just to be able to run it on my box.
Then I somehow didn't feel what I did the night on the stream, somehow the music turned me off. I do like Radiohead a lot, though this felt like somebody was trying to immitate them - and failed.
So, I gave this comment some time, some day I'll like this one again.
Tonight it seems is that night, it's one hell of an amazing demo. The logo scene, together with the exploding row of houses and of course the water just do it for me,- again.

Love it ... although the music get’s too much noisy at the end in my opinion.
I've walked around humming this amazing tune more than I'd probably admit ;) It's a brilliant piece of music, that works wonders in a prod like this. Very well executed and great coherence between visuals and the song.
no thumb yet?
I love this demo because it stresses out even the most impressive of system specs.
I watched this again today and it occurred to me that it seems to foreshadow the earthquake in Japan in 2011. Watch it again and you'll notice the architecture is Japanese. The scene where the buildings are being destroyed is reminiscent of a tsunami. The subway system is flooded with water. And at the end you have metallic rods (the figureheads) surrounded by water, after which they begin to burn, giving rise to a firebird which menacingly rises into the air...a metaphor for Fukushima. Anyone else see it?

Fixed the no thumb yet on this great demo. GTX 600 @ 1.3Ghz and still suffer!
This is one of my all-time favorite demos. I love the city and the metro scenes, the exploding buildings, extra touches like the speaker walls, ...almost everything! And the music is simply awesome and fits perfectly. The only thing I dislike is the end scene which somehow feels out of place, but that's a minor gripe.
Thank you for making this wonderful demo!

Can't make it work on 8.1 x64, shame.
Too boring for me to thumb it up.
I love the exploding buildings. An interactive version of this would be fun..
9/10
Incredible graphics, audio and mood. A rare production that should be cited as an example.
Another CNCD/Fairlight tour-de-force, simply superb.
Mind = blown! This is completely awesome, super slick visuals and awesome soundtrack! The track goes so well with the demo it's almost unbelievable. All thumbs up!
Fairlight
Truly the best demo ever
Such a joy to watch. The dark edges on the particles give it that special look...
I am simply loving these CNCD & FLT modern demos.
incredible!
i take back what i wrote back then. the mixout on the drums may just fit the idea here, gives it a unique twist
Any way to get this to run on x64? Really want to see how this will run with a sheer brute force overclock behind it.
@NickyDrinks: same here, hangs on loading on win8.1 x64 + hd8750m.
so i have pulled my old winxp+gf9600 box and it worked fine (well...not THAT well in terms of smooth show as it crawled to ~5fps sometimes and crashed my pc at the end but at least it runs! :).
about demo itself: you just need to watch it by yourself. unforgettable show, awesome particle modelling/syncing and of course excellent music! :)

I've listen to the music *a lot*
About the demo, I would have loved to see more fire and less particle dissolving.
Still a masterpiece
