Superb music by Sundial. I thought Sundial consisted of more than one member though.
The demo seems to require a bit more juice than my machine can provide unfortunately :/

Oh my GOD. OOOOOH my GOD! This is definitely one the best demos that I have EVER seen! I was very pleasantly surprised to see Satori release a demo again after such a long while. And I have to say, it was definitely worth the wait. Amazing music, amazing visuals, true artistic masterpiece. You guys rule. Please do more of this. =)

Black screen. Detects my 2nd display (which is lower res than my primary) and asks if I want to watch on 2nd display. If I say "no" I get black on display 1 and 1/3rd black on display 2. If I say "yes" I get black display 2 with a vertical line on the right.

Any way to activate windowed mode?

Thanks all guys for feedbacks - this is so valuable and rewarding! Giving back energy to progress further! So I want to state this:

verion on BP is marked pv0777 so it means 0.7party version. Demo is not finished as i imagine. Therefore i wanted to postpone 720p video render for final release so people will be motivated to watch it. But if you give me a promise you gonna look at final version in exe/avi i'll put video version from party ASAP to pleasure you all with "slower" CPUs. I was coding demo on 2GHz machine so i had to watch always video fullframe renders coz sometimes it was slideshowing at my PC too :) definitely a piggy for single threat support but i'll try to work it out in final too and make the ending 'desert' fx running on decent speed - not like now :)
demo is in 1280x720 but still looked at bigscreen a bit low-resish in comparison to the rest of HDdemos - what's next one to improve in future release..
Simply put, demo is unfinished a bit and first i wanted to release only 640x360 video from party version but as long as i see these positive unexpected comments, i'm thankfull for, i'll be happy to release 720p tonight!

- I asked Raiden for sound-track, if he sent me mzx from Sundial's project, i was automatically supposing he sent me a tune composed by him - but i'll check the fact and correct the credits in final if needed! Music was afterwards remixed by a noisemusician friend (angakok thoth).

- the video init bug(?) I'm sorry for - the only idea now is that it's not working on 1280x800x32 mode (if you miss 1280x720x32) - i had not this video mode to test at party so i could not check it and i made the fix blindly - will be corrected in final version too...

yes, please give us the 720p version, of course everyone (including me) will wait and get the 1.0 when it's out, but meanwhile, my poor single core turion has absolutelly no chance of running this on more than 2fps :( however the details i saw in those few frames are inexistant in any video version out there, so please, give us a chance to enjoy it, and thank you.

Music:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTy9sOMtacs

I don't really get the point of pure software rendering... using a few smart shaders could do the same thing and it would look better, and, more importantly, run faster.

Still, the design is great, and fits to the music. This was definitely one of my favorite demos of breakpoint, and I wish there were more of these dreamy 2D-effect demos.
rulez added on the 2010-04-08 15:22:37 by teraflop teraflop
concerning music, checked Raiden and he did track 97% alone so credits are fit + i really wish to have 100% original tune BUT Raiden is !BUSY!, could not grab fit tune from Distance and the rest I know are noizers ;) and I guess you are more happy with this selection BUT at least I got audio remix

about pure soft - so that's just how i spend last 7r on building my engine for other purposes (vj) - i like the fakt you can run it everywhere - it hopefully just needs a bit of multithread support.. hope the final will run faster!

+ if you want a shader 2d demo from Satori so then i can tell just sorry for the rest of next few year(s) OR you can live with my softrender and enjoy a bit of more prods :-)))

i just simply ignored all the 3d hype, shaders and don't even got a decent 3d card to run demos - huh - but some change might come, but firstly i want to juice out every last bit of my engine potential in another releases...

zden: way to go. it was a high to watch the demo on the live bp-stream especially when i saw it was software rendered. it was a really awesome ride. its good to know im not alone when it comes to making software rendered demos (even my quality is so much lower). i like the high-voltage power picture(s) (it made the experience a little more interesting). i never really made the change to gpu's, maybe its because i didnt want to let go of it, i dont know the reason why. im kind of grown up with oldschool and table-effects and the change to hardware is much more difficult to make. better gpu-cards are also hitting the market every year (or sooner) and too keep up with the latest technology is painfull for me.

software rendering is back!

Loved it.

Zden: My first thought at the compo when i saw one of the parts was "damn shame he's coded it in SW again.. it would've killed if it ran smooth".

I used to be pretty vary of shaders but nowadays even the lousiest netbooks from last year will have an intel gma 950 that has PS 2.0. I think my laptop (that an ultraportable) from 2004 had PS 1.1.. now i'm pretty sure that some of your effects won't run well on those shaders but you could prolly do some layer processing with them easily. The last engine i completed more or less only uses ps 1.1 , if i keep that code and make additions it'll prolly be able to fallback to that and default to higher Q for better computers.

Great production, just a shame it didn't really have a chance at the compo.

zden: multithreading shouldn't be too hard.. I guess you pretty much just run through a list of filters in order? If so, many filters you can just split into x pieces, and do 1 piece per thread. Where there's some sampling of adjacent pixels you must split into overlapping tiles, with the overlap being the amount you sample away from the current pixel.

But seriously, you could do this demo with shaders, it would be very little extra work, and it would run smooth at higher res. You don't need any expensive GPU to run this, a cheap/few years old one would be enough :) Porting what you've done to glsl might not be so much work as you think too.

@whizzter: will give a try by the time, i promise :) and apropo placing in compo rank isn't the point for a long time and having a personal release on big party was actually quite some (adrenaline!) fun
@psonice: this of course was my primar idea with more threads and been playing a bit and failing too;) ATM i'll be happy to finish it visually and then try 2core again. still will eat decent time with fam&job combo. u know i did a jackS*T in my life with 3dcards (or read it opengl/dx). therefore i am that scared:)

zden: I have a 0% fear method for you to start writing your stuff on GPU. I learned this way, and did some GLSL shaders before even learning any serious coding.

You have a mac, so install the SDK if you haven't already (it's on the osx disk, or download it from developer.apple.com) and load up quartz composer from in there (search with spotlight to find it). It's like a demo tool, similar to werkzeug, pretty powerful and it runs on the GPU. I made this and this using QC a lot.

Play a little so you get how it works (connect a 'video input' or 'image importer' (your source, so you have some pixels to play with - video = video camera = more fun!) to a 'billboard' or 'sprite' (your output) and try some of the built-in filters between). (I recommend this anyway even if you don't want to touch GPU stuff, you'll get ideas for your own tools :)

Then try the 'Core Image Filter' patch - it lets you write your own filters, and they run on the GPU. It's quite easy, 2d only, but very powerful. And it's based on GLSL - if you like core image, you'll find it pretty easy to move to glsl. There's a GLSL patch where you can write your own vertex/pixel shader and try it out with no additional code. Then you'll just need to integrate CI or glsl into your engine :) If you want help with QC, ask on kineme.net.

dut: i guess the music is melow for distortion and especially i started to make demo-parts unfitting hard/noise music and been looking for pieceful music piece from Raiden - it's not really that code-error-design demo as someone else noted - i spend on each part 2 weeks in average so i was not rushing and wanted to make something relaxing and somehow keep the visual crazyness under control :)

final is even better, one of those demos where a video will never do it justice due to the amount of detail and subtle shades of color
tnx for the final

quite surreal experience, normally i like more straitforward going demos - But well, if the music is awesome all works together like a perfect clock, and here all worked together so well, liked the effect color layers - Quote hypnotical.. In combination with a good wine.. Awesome :)

More of this please!

zden: Any tricks on getting this to work with kkapture? I would really like to make a 60fps capture.
added on the 2010-08-11 06:55:07 by trixter trixter

i like it but i think its somehow sad that it burns all out of my (3.2ghz) CPU and is still stuttering at some scenes when it could use the GPU as well.
it must be possible to hardware accelerate the code you wrote somehow.
anyway. this rox.

After seeing quite a share of in the woods with filters wilds today, this is a welcome comeback of the satori I like.
For some reason I don't remember seeing it on the bigscreen at all anymore, though must have been a good party then ^^

I love the sunday mood satori <3

Had downloaded the v0.77 which didnt work, was black screen but I heard music / sound.
Went to this website and downloaded the patch.
Retried which gave me the same result.
Than I saw a link, on this page, for the final version, which I downloaded.
Retried, worked, yet just after the purple "plants", which is at 4:46 in the youtube video, it gives me a RAM issue.
I have 16GB of RAM installed, should be enough, right?

To run it; double click on the .exe file
A window will popup, telling you to "select video mode"
Than, you left mouse click the window and press 0 on your keyboard (par example)
Than another window pops up, calculating MEM and such
And there is Vokawardoai.

(That is how I got it to work on my win10 64bit laptop.)
