Ok, I was looking at one of my old hard drives and found the source for that. Probably our first ever "demo", the infofile says 93 although it is probably late 93. I will run under (at least) windows 2k without problem although it is recommented to watch with dosbox and a low framerate because it is not framerate independent. This is basically a dentro for an upcoming demo called "Vertex megademo" which I remember vaguely but it is completely lost.

As you understand, this is for completist only. Nothing too important or interesting (it is actually rather laughable) but hey, it is a piece of ASD history. Code, graphics and "English" my own...

(I like the irony of the 'tm' over Andromeda. How little did I know...)

Ah, I just noticed that the demo is called 'Video5'. Video5, Demo5, never mind eh..

cool for a firstprod, but you could work a bit on the design! if you try really hard you may produce something really cool later. support-thumb!

nice for a first production, looks promising, keep on coding!
maybe someday you'll win a scene award or something? who knows ;)
probably you don't realize that, but here, in the future, we have a group called ASD, so, please change your groupname, okthxbye.

A demo from a greek group, haha, never knew it existed demosceners in greece. Thumbs up for a scene production from a country famous for their ruins.

Nice! :)

Navis:
Which ASD demos from the 90's are still missing ?
rulez added on the 2008-04-06 16:35:56 by magic magic
Nice for a first demo but you should keep improving to more coherent scene design and better color schemes. Hopefully you'll make better and improved stuff in the future!

Is that (tm) thing some hidden reference to recession of global markets and fall of capitalism?
rulez added on the 2008-04-06 16:38:12 by waffle waffle
Magic:

the demos missing are: Demi (?), Vertex megademo, Copper, Whow and Whow2, Seeing, Landscape, Vector demo, Digital dreams (I have it but it doesn't run for some reason. Unfortunately no code for that) and two or more of the cosmos bbs demos.

There is also a game, the legendary "Luke Mess: the adventure" by ASD, an adventure game with lots of rooms. Now that takes me back some years...

Just to add here that all our graphics before 96 were made using deluxe paint 2, autodesk animator and this strange, strange 3D program called "TOPAZ 3D". Does anyone remember/have that ?
added on the 2008-04-06 16:40:16 by Navis Navis
I remember that topaz 3D needed 4mb memory, a 386 and a 387 copro. I only had then a 386sx/16 with 1 mb, and been trying to use 'emulators' for the copro and the memory to make it run (yeah right, as if that would ever work). Eventually got a 386/387 (quite expensive back then, I could have got myself a couple of good bicycles I suppose instead) and voila topaz 3D and 3D studio running !

I remember deluxe paint (on amiga anyway:)
Let's see if some one can dig up the missing prods.. :)

What? I would like to play that adventure game. It was not in my missing list at all :)
rulez added on the 2008-04-06 18:07:24 by Optimus Optimus
optimus: Luke mess was an adventure game like the old sierra ones originally written in qbasic (in 1990-91, long before ASD and all that). For some technical reasons I could only do sprite handling with binary sprites (white/transparent). For this reason the game was about a 'ghost' (hence I could justify the sprite being white/transparent). When I moved into pascal and asm in 92 it was rewritten, but the ghost character (Luke Mess his name) stayed.

We went quite far with this (at least 5-6 levels, full animated character, full script, inventory system, mouse etc) but it was lost shortly after.

Dig that funky 90's style... seems to be influenced by the loading screens of VGA games from that time. Gobliiins comes to mind...

After watching this I still can't believe the same people have served me Lifeforce or other ass-kickers. Still nice.

There's only one way to solve this problem of ASD's missing prods: at BP09 ASD has to enter the demo compo with a 1994-style megademo..

Navis, how old was you when you did this?
rulez added on the 2008-04-06 21:48:46 by sq sq
sq: if the datestamp is correct (but it might not be, I had the bad habit of recompiling the demo and changing the current year to whatever it was, probably going from 92 to 93 to 94 etc.) in 93 I was 15.

But I know it looks like it was made by somebody at the age of 10 or even less :-P
