It's very nice to see and especially to hear that true sampling is still alive somewhere outside the underground hip hop scene and the sample based d'n'b scene.
Thank you.
Great demo!

My 2nd place, rules!

A good progression from 'route 1066' (though probably had more time spent on it), but I can't help but feel it's slightly too similar...? On the one hand I love this unique British style, on the other I do hope they branch out a little bit with the next demo...

Very nice and stylish, only the scratching part is too long and some models strangely don't match the quality of others..
rulez added on the 2008-03-24 17:20:49 by coma coma
I liked the style, the music, and most of the elements were pretty cool, but... I feel like I'm alone here but I'll say it anyway... the execution was a little.. shambolic? It just didn't feel like a quality production. Framerate is all over the place, people (funny) walking through lampposts, jerky animation that looked buggy and went against the flow of the demo.. meh.
a brilliant trickfilm movie with outstanding animations and music quality. should have placed 2nd, directly after shad3.
rulez added on the 2008-03-24 17:29:54 by Bobic Bobic
road 1066 was better, and while the music is awesome, bits of the modeling and texturing are not quite up to the quality expected. very entertaining parts (silly walk: too long unfortunately, also we already had it in 1066; train snakes are hilarious!), the ending however is somehow duh. funny ASD also has bowler hat men and zeppelins in their prod...

overall rulez more than being a piggy

Fantastic music and direction! Keito is really becoming one of the best scene musicians at the moment. The modelling and rendering is great; it almost looks like little attempt was made for photorealism and it's intentionally got a pseudo-cartoon look to it. Dvs's graf is excellent. There are a few obvious rendering glitches and modelling artifacts but hopefully they'll be cleaned up in the final. Props!

it's all ok, but nothing to get crazy about. imho it should've also placed behind einklang's entry.
i'm not sure if it's my machine (E6600/8800gts) or the code itself, but the movements / scrolling isn't really what i'd consider "smooth".. destroys a lot of the atmosphere for me.
besides that the "dancin'"guy looks a bit buggy and too stiff, but a nice idea nonetheless.

this is the most appallingly unfinished thing i've worked on in ages (and ive done a lot of those. ;) ). the compo team knows how late we were - huge thanks to them for allowing us in at all.

anyway, we're basically going to remake a lot of this over the next two weeks, so take this as an early preview version and wait for the "real thing" to come along later. :)
added on the 2008-03-25 10:14:01 by smash smash
I obviously like this, although it looks quite unfinished. However it has a concept (which 1066 didn't seem to have) and probably tons of work behind it.

Now you may want to try a different setting, maybe in space or underwater (as if that hasn't be done to death... :-)).

One of the best soundtrack... like forever. A little to much "silly-walk" for me and I missed the new cutting edge effects that I have been used to see from smash.
And about slow engine or not, as long the compo machines hardware manage it. Go for it!
If you personal computer can't handle it, pity you and maybe it is time to upgrade it or stick to the c64 compo? ;-)

Imho it deserves a much higher result. Thumb up!

This would have got my top vote, no question. The only demo in the compo with the "wow factor".

Not only is it technically superb, but artistically sound too. I love the conflict between the whole upper class toff culture and the ghetto culture. An effective summary of British society and the class barriers.

Amazing work!

Yes, ofcourse, i was forced with a red hot cattleprod to do graffiti for this prod.. not being in fairlight you see. I feel so abused, i wanted to draw little bunny rabbits but they would'nt have it, they threatened to kill my whole family and pets.. i feel so abused. :(

being somewhat of an old graffiti-fart I definetely dig the design and the soundtrack ... struck by a London tube ... capital \o/ and the clouds at the beginning.
But to be honest ... the damn thing almost killed my brand new Dell XPS with 3Gig RAM and an nVidia 8400/128MB ... the FPS transformed to SPF especially during the blimb in the street

some very cool scenes here, i personally like the crows most. too bad, that the whole thing still is too incoherent. the suicide as a frame story works, but the flash back scenes are mostly too cluttered, just feel unconnected for me. the fresh soundtrack doesn't fit the theme as well... streetart can be cool (on the street), but why pasting them into such a prod? many skills are there, the style is here, but no fitting direction. less would have been more... why not making two demos out of it - one hiphop the other city suicide :) ? or making it more triphop, slower paced?
