If this doesn't win ASM06, I'll eat my shoes.
Scout: I think your shoes are pretty safe.
Fucking hell what a demo!!
Fucking hell what a demo!!
keeps mindcandy vol 2 all the more relevant. :)
eat your shoes! :D
GREAT.
GREAT.
STUNNING
Phoenix: u got to put this demo on as a bonus :D
Feels very unfinished. Very nice beginning and rest of the demo is nice as well, yet, it still looks like a typical TBL demo for me. I'll wait for the final version.
If this wins, it will be the first time an amiga demo beats pc competition fair and square ... unlike that lapsuus crap
Very good, the 3d animations are so smooth and realistic and the design is cool.
They reused a lot of old stuff/ideas again but damn, this was so cool... Especially the robot fish...
I'm speechless
No words here either... I demand a video ASAP!!!
sparcus: after the last five years, haven't you yet figured out tbl's formula? :)
TBL
IT was VERY good.. blowed the competition away, let us get a fix so we can run it at home too...
This is the BEST amiga DEMO ever .. Blowed the competition away, let us get a fix so we can run it at home too...
excellent demo, you must be torturing the hell out of that poor 68060 :) (when it actually runs on a real amiga, and not in uae)
Very cool show!! What the hell are the mointains doing there?
pure perfection. this has to win for sure.
Mmm,. I get strange bugs and stucks in the scene with the robot inside the building, in WinUAE. I don't know what are the right configuration to make it work properly :(
From whatever I've seen from ASM TV though, when it ended up I had to pick up my jaw from the floor1!!
From whatever I've seen from ASM TV though, when it ended up I had to pick up my jaw from the floor1!!
after what i've seen in the first half (which is visible in uae), not providing the videocapture of this is TOO cruel =)
Truly amazing.
only the first half runs on real h/w too. but I saw the entire demo from the asm stream and I'm pretty sure this demo is pure pw0nage. just waiting for the fix now ;)
The Black Lotus Strikes Back ;)
Well... According to Asm rules, it's completely ok to release a demo for Amiga emulator running on PC. After all Java demos work pretty much the same way :)
So - Thumbs up.
So - Thumbs up.
i still have hard time to believe that this actually was an AGA demo
Left my jaw on the ground, and I was never able to pick it up. This is amazing, and will win if there's any justice in the world.
Iced the compo.
Here's a digitv capture of the demo from AsmTV. Use VLC player to watch http://low.fi/ass06/tbl-starstruck.mpg
I guess low.fi is down..
I cant get the download to work.. :(
I cant get the download to work.. :(
Yep, and it's more than 200MB big, cut the download in 10% ;P
We're not worthy! We're not worthy!
very impressive and beautiful scenes. but seems like theres no point running it on my my a1200 060/50 and watch it jerk, when i can look at a recorded version where it runs smooth
Beautiful, well designed, and good use of old tricks. Oh, and of course the 20% new stuff.
I ran totaly outta words as I saw this passing through the stream- wire.
The unfinished version ran (until the break at the yellow robo-bug) in a very pleasant framerate. In my point of view this (no matter how much 3d trick-trick-precalc-prerender-you name it) is the best presented TBL demo since Rain. Direction, the textures + graphics, the splendid tune and the codework that gets all this running at nearly 20 fps (some tiny stuckers but who cares) on 060 deserves a bow down.
And it's loooong without getting boring. An instant classic I'd say. Can't wait 'til the final version...hurry guys ;)

This version craps up on both my A1200/060/64MB and in WinUAE... Please release the compo version, what I can see here is very promising!
no need to talk. it rules. it's TBL.
Couldn't get much more TBL than this..
i really do love you guys.
What everyone else already said.
An other very good TBL demo.
hollowman, at some point, should we start consider renaming the platform from amiga to winuae
emulator or not, very professional work here!
oh
my
god
my
god
I'm amazed...
con gratz for winning the compo... ;)
YEAH!
I don't have to eat my shoes =)
and where's the coup de coeur?
I don't have to eat my shoes =)
and where's the coup de coeur?
winner!
And TBL does it again :)
only seen half of it playing (missed the video stream and it crashed in winuae half way..) but it was more then enough to blow my mind.
holy mother of bob
excellent demo, boys!
Thx for it TBL, really superb :)
Awesome
winuae or not... tbl winning bp and now asm.
nice
will hold back the vote till it runs 100% on real machine
holy makrel, that's one darn good demo! fuckings for humiliating the pc scene, louie :)
what's up (or down, more like) with that video link?
WE BREAK SHIT
Again, TBL combines technical skill and design to an insanely beautiful demo.
Damn, I *love* the soundtrack.
Anyway, here is a working mirror of the asm.tv video:

This demo rules....the soundtrack is AWESOME.
For me,TBL are the best demogroup EVER.

any mirrors for the video available?
Scamp: that video capture, is that the one infected with the embedded diggari.fi logo or is it logo free?
TBL guys... THIS is so ÜBERheftig!!! It is so cyberpunkish that I automatically have to thumb it up... the mountains are nice but they are the only thing that do not fit into the concept imho. The cyberfish is so fucking great aswell as the rest of the demo! Please don't stop!
and that bird looks damn real!
Absolutely amazing
shane: Use your eyes, it's magic. :)
sparcus: Sadly it's the infected one.
sparcus: Sadly it's the infected one.
I almost shit in my pants when i saw that
With all theese fancy harware accellerated PC demos allways dominating the ASM compos, this surely warms an Amiga Sceners hart. I think I might have cried if I was present at the ASM and saw it on the big screen ;)
IRIS should win more often at BP,this obviously triggered something in TBL to kick ass at the next big democompo.... :D

as already told: lacks consistency, and thus it's a bit boring, but other than that it's impressive enough.. september is too far away for the non jerky version with this demand though ;)
I like the music and most of the gfx, and as always, there's a great uplifting feeling that works especially in the party place.
However, this has quite much recycled stuff and feels a bit unfinished. Oh and the cubemap-animations can be spotted way too easily :)

codewise:
it's animated skybox city.. and most of the effects have been seen before in tbl demos. i really do like the shadow effects (beneath the robot fish and in the landscape) : damn cool. and it's still a solid engine. i hope to see it also on a real amiga some day.
designwise:
incredible!! just when you think you say the peak in the development of tbl demos these guys come and beat themselves (and the rest of the scene). it's hard for me to describe it. it's very demotivating in a way and even makes me want to quit all my demomaking activities. it's simply impossible for a "normal" crew to reach this levels of design/presentation quality.. but that this level of is at all possible in the scene today (and from a <150 man strong team) is a big fart in the face of the games industry =)) YEAH! fucking A :))

Actually, that might be the point of doing an amiga demo. It requires a lot of work, but imagine having to produce the same work at a higher resolution, with a higher number of polys on pc.
I still can't understand why -on PC- we don't have the same level of creativity, good taste, beautiful art direction, using those classic but so efficient cinema effects.
This is a pure uplifting show. Great. Magic. Thank you.
PC demomakers have now some hard homework to complete.

its the spirit of the low resolution... ;)
RULEZ!
RULEZ!
As I told you in front of the hotel, you rocked the compo!! Congrats
Exterminated by a "half finished" version... damn...
sweet lord, making up for bp are we? o_O
Oxbow: maybe the answer is that
the amigascene excists longer than the PC scene and thus further evolved?
the amigascene excists longer than the PC scene and thus further evolved?
Holy shit, i was already so impressed by other demos and intros and now this one.. What a superb quality at whole asm06!
..... and I got my groupname smashed into pieces.....
Overall, another TBL classic. The 'organic' bits did it more for me than the machines, especially the birds at the end, we need more crows in demos!
As always...superb!!!! I hope I will see another great demo on the next BreakPoint.
This great demo. Any words will appear too weak in comparison with this work.
=)
fantastic talent projection
Whoah! Like.. blow my mind +) Thanks TBL!
I don't know much about Amigas, but I presume this is rather awesome ;)
the machines did it! IM SO HAPPY!!!
the amazing.
more dimo with such great design!
more dimo with such great design!
wow , superb demo.
omg
APA!
fuckin kool... again amiga kicked ass of da PC (: ha ha haha haha thanx TBL for keeping the spirit alive!
I like the vertical credits, the music, the greetings with the mech/robot, the fish-robot that lights the ground of the sea, the crows, the "interference" effects were nice... but I'm slightly tired of seeing the female body/face reused and reused again... you lazy 3d modeller! ;-) It's a quite good model but I wouldn't mind about seeing new models.
It's way better than "Requiem" and probably one of best TBL demos :-)
Silkcut mountains may be less advanced technically but looked slightly better. You may have put a pair of crows flying over the snow-covered-mountains.
For the next release it may be a good idea to make more uniform the theme of the demo. Anyway this is one of the best amiga demos released ever and worths a thumb up :-)
P.S. I wonder if it would be possible to release a CGX/AHI version (maybe only a c2p has been used for the gfx and AFAIK the sound is usualy a PCM stream). Krabob^MKD is an expert in RTG/RTA so you may ask him.

Excellent!!!
an amazing demo from tbl again
there's nothing I can say (or write) that would remotely describe how good I think this one is. It fucking uber-ruleZ!
btw. microsoft is/was mainsponsor of asm06 ;)) eheheehehehe :))
absolutely insane... tons of respect, folks. Great mood, great atmosphere, although I'd prefer something less industrial. But the mech-fish will be a historic demo-moment. :)
Massive production it blows my mind million years away. Thank you TBL for this one! (And thank you for beating MFX and Kewlers).
Beside that i can't understand why the heck PC demos can't look like this? "If you want that PC demos look like this start making your own demos ... " ... *yeah* i want but i think i am not talented enough to do something asskicking like this (I think). Anyway...
TBL ROCK!

Thank you TBL!
No words for the best amiga demo I have ever seen!

Tbl for god ;-)
heja sverige!
someone should spread the video with bittorrent.
Really, really thx for this demo, migy scene still alive:)
Holy shit - sorry that I ever doubted you after the BP "incident" this year :)
Thank you for an amazing demo, and what a jaw-dropping timing - we were sitting some friends together watching the stream from assembly - everything went totally quiet for some seconds when the screen with "Startstruck / TBL" appeared.
I'll personally bug Dr. Doom even more now, so that we will have the mother of all Amiga demo compos at BP next year ;)

magnificent work. especially in the graphics and design department.
madness!!
you are gods TBL. :]
a good one...
Always amazing what skilled ppl can do with such a small amount of polygons!!!
GREAT!

Just as disappointed as I was over their Breakpoint'06 amiga demo, just as much in awe I am of this one ...
And here is the music for the demo:

Enjoy!

phew, this is impressive...
Oh, no. After this, PC sceners should shoot themselfs.
"we break things"
This was.. amazing.. I'm speechless..
tbl.
Excellent!!!
Pretty awesome
übermentchen bowing to the world again.
Wheeeeyaaa!! This one is amazing!! Überdemo!
holy bananas.
Nice one. The fact that an Amiga demo wins the demo compo in 2006 is kind of hilarious. Way to go guys! Keep the Amiga alive!
Haven't seen this on the real thing yet but on the bigscreen this sure was impressive.

Works on a native 68060 perfect
Works on a native 68060 perfect
guess I can't really add anything new to the praise.. perfection
This production fucking rules!!!! TBL rules!!!! Amiga rules!!! Pc sucks!! Yeeeehaaaaaw!!!! ;)
Great demo!
Perhaps, I think to best TBL prods so far.
Great gfx and Great soundtrack.
It doesn't seem to have been made with the machine that had been manufactured
very ten years or more ago.
Anyway, totaly awesome prods.
This is rulez.

AMiGA!!!
what can i say?
i think you guys kinda overreacted the comments on the breakpoint demo and we're very happy about it! :)
thanks for that!

thanks for that!
@ Kalms.. Yes I have to admit that I feel a bit proud to be the first person running the Partyversion on a real Amiga ;) (have someone seen my jaws I dropped them somewhere)
fly on to the top baby
Superb prod with mr. Olof Gustafsson at sound section!!!
... :o
:-D
Completely Awesome. Yes.
Fabulously over-hyped TBL-formular demo that is still good enough for a thumb. ;D
ok, finally could run it on hardware... had some problems with sync at some parts (counting only drawn frames instead of screen frames probably) but anyhow managed to keep very good speed in spite of the enhanced shading at some parts... so yes definite thumb up :)))
I don't have enough thumbs.
I wonder how they manage this monumental pompous mood all the time. All effects automatically seem to be the most incredible thing you've seen before because of the music :) The framerate looks fine on original Amiga. Atleast in the skybox based scenes I have seen. It crashed after the crawling robot in the tunnel (which kicked ass). Massive graphics/code and sound all around :).. damn you
@loadie
You have the wrong version. Get the one from http://amiga.bbs.fi
You have the wrong version. Get the one from http://amiga.bbs.fi
the sheer mood and beauty of all the 3d scenes is what most PC demos severly lack, this is what tunnels, factories and landscapes should look like nowadays, on any platform. polys and shaders are no excuse anymore !
excellent demo
the first good tbl demo ever, at least the first one that beats our 3d engine from 1998 ;)
must have been a lot of work, respect!!!
must have been a lot of work, respect!!!
tha pc is beeing bitchslapped by the amiga!!

TBL...
Very nice indeed. I'd like to see it run on actual hardware, though.
I felt in love instantly.
fuck YEAH! FUCK YEAH! (the sound of a US dude on a berlin pubcrawl)
Holy assfuck. >:O Best robots in a Demo ever.
just 2 words...., HOLY FISTING SHIT!
just great. i especially like the credits scene.
Not much to say what wouldn't have been said 'til now. Rockage. Thanks Kalms, you you guys are unbeatable.
Damn! That robot fish was insane! TBL 4 ever!
the most amazing demo I have ever seen since Numen on Atari8bit...
Impressive code, great design, great gfx and awasome soundtrack!
this demo tottaly rock!
they break shit for sure ;)

i worship TBL. My new God!
Really sweet! :)
Ok, now I've watched the new version on my A1200/060 and while the spider and mountain scenes feels like slideshows there's some pretty awesome stuff here.
What is AMIGA ? (lol
TBL members are crazy ...
Great !!
TBL members are crazy ...
Great !!
the mountain scenes are just too slow, but everything else is amazing!
want to see much more stuff like this!!!!
want to see much more stuff like this!!!!
I havent seen this yet, and I understand the authors want to provde full quality, but a reduced size video would be nice. 200 megs is a lot.
looked at my winuae install but dont have the nerves to hunt down a working rom, hunt down WB install disks, etc etc too much damn work for a demo.
ROBOFISH!!!
booya
nice. i love the greets part.
good
thought - tbl seemed to win over the pc entries because of concrete scenes.. robots, crows, etc. lapsuus won for the same reasons.. scenes of real-life things. pc demos seem to be more and more abstract scenes, like spikes 'n' swirls, right down to the entry that was just cubes. so in conclusion, when it comes to the big screen, you can add all the smoothing and shading you want, but it's what you do with the polys that counts. (granted, i prefer the smoothing and shading more when i watch it at home :)
An AMAZING demo ...
Amiga is not dead, and TBL has the most beautiful homage for this computer.
Great dezign, great sound, great code !

Great dezign, great sound, great code !
I thought this would not run at all on a real Amiga based on everyone's comments. Just tried it for myself and it ran quite nicely, not at all like a slideshow.
So to TBL: congrats!
To everyone who commented on the non-working preview version: you suck for spreading misinformation.

I agree with phoenix.
Still, this rules.
Still, this rules.
very good!
If Amiga died in 1994, someone forgot to tell Kalms + co.
There's nothing more to say.
OMFG! Amazing! You stretched the Amiga hardware like John Holms stretches vaginas. I wish I could give two thumbs!
Quote:

WTF??
however.. excellent demo!
Damn! you guys actualy made me convince my wife to let me unpack my old amiga again, just to try it out for real! Best amiga ever, i wish we culd do such things on the amiga when i were active on that machine.. damn better start up amiga section again :)
Best amiga demo! ever i should have said :)
the kings of kettle drums are back :)
that raven scene seriously made me go "what the fuck".
that raven scene seriously made me go "what the fuck".
holy macaroni!

after watching it for a sixth time I can't say that I don't like it - great job!
lovely oldschool track, remind pinball series a lot,
why is that ? (just kidding of course ;)
thumb up for really creative usage of precalculation tricks
and angry robots :)

Excellent! I love TBL!
SUPERB!
Very good for an Amiga demo!
The graphics are superb, the music is good in place but sometimes too chaotic and it's all VERY nicely presented.
The only downer is the low polygons and Amiga limitations but that's not as bad as usual.
This is how an Amiga demo should be done! Lightyears ahead of the usual newschool stuff!

Is ja voll der hammer.Ich bin sprachlos!!
uhm. cdc? isnt that for "less known prods"?
.
Wow... Bombastic Show.. Ultra Stylish - Tune rulez, rest of course also :)
Holy shit, this is FANTASTIC!
Massive !!!!

Still don't ask me why, i like silkcut better.
Although starstruck definitly got more of everything.
Anyway respect to tbl for constantly delivering a high standard.

renders any other amiga-demo obsolete
Does absolutely NOT render any other Amiga demo obsolete, but it is very "State or the art", meaning that every era has it's prime productions.
For the early ages it was mega demos such as RSI Megademo - for the 90s it was demos such as Desert Dream and Tint and since the year 2000 we have seen several good demos by, for instance, TBL, which more or less all represent mad skills and desire to be the elite of the Amiga demo scene - as we exspect TBL to be.
What struck me most when watching this demo are the beautiful and perfect textures and backgrounds. Along with the motions and the music, they set up an atmosphere, which is close to perfection.
I have always thought that a demo needs to have a certain feel to it, in order to make it big - and this demo is big - even big enough to wipe out all other competiotion at ASM06, regardless the platform. This fact and the demo itself makes it a jaw-dropping creation from TBL and I would give it a coup de coeur if I had enough glöps on my account... ;)

Oh, and a BIG thanks to TBL for not releasing this at Breakpoint earlier this year, allowing for us to win the compo ;)
thk TBL ,kickass release!!!
This outstanding prod would've never matched the size-rules at Breakpoint as it is 17 MB zipped. So it broke some serious shit in a tough democompo up there in Helsinki this year. I had my fun watching this on the stream :)
Really insane amount of impressive content (code, gfx and sound wise).
impressive
splendid to see that some people don't get tired. definitely a perfect circle #6 or #7 and very incoherent as usual, but obviously an awful lot of work went into it this time. nice candy for both coders and graphicians in here too. @kalms, louie & the gang: thanks for going through the toil all over again.
one word: WOW
Kudos @ TBL for this.
Great!
68k forever. You never know what comes next from TBL but you know, It will rule more than the last one...
68k forever. You never know what comes next from TBL but you know, It will rule more than the last one...
simply excellent !
HOW CAN IT BE REAL!?!?!
I think I can thumb this up, on the condition that the next big TBL production is not an Amiga-one (at least not AGA+060).
One the one hand, I think it's hard for TBL to come up with something better next time... I think this is simply the definitive Amiga demo for this era. Better to go out in a blaze of glory then.
And on the other hand, aren't we curious to see what TBL can do on a platform with more power and possibilities?
I'd like to see if they can pull off this kind of style, but in a more polished way, more polys, better shading, and perhaps more effects.
PS2 might be a good platform, I really liked 4 Edges.
Oh, and...
AMIGA RULEZZ!

brilliant milestone :-)
Hmm... no doubt about it, great technically, great design, effects seem great too although i'm no expert on amiga these days. But it had a bit too much 'game design'. Please guys, play less games and watch some movies or something! I like where you're going with everything other than the gamy bits.
Still, definately one of the best amiga demos in years, even if I do prefer tint.

I have to second psonice on this one. Starstruck feels really game-inspired. It also feels like at least two different-themed demos smashed together - one with a raven and another with robots.
Quite nice overall, I particularly loved the greets part and the message it sends but I don't really feel awed by this one and would've personally left starstruck out of the top-3 at asm06.

oh TBL 4 ever !
for an amiga demo, this was insane. but for a demo in general it didn't really work for me.. dunno why, music was good, the theme too as well as direction, but still i felt it was missing something.
...
COOOL DEMO!
TBL ROXXX!
TBL ROXXX!
Of course this one is indeed a great demo. You are perfect androids programmed for assasination.
But, of course, this is not the ultimate demo of this era. And you will be annihilated!

Great.
Considering the platform; amazing.

How to load this demo in WinUAE ? Please help :(
Quite.. perfect.
fucking owns
omg... very nice!
big!
very, very cool
It tires a bit that repeat some effects of their last works with slight changes. Sincerely I prefer some of its last ones we give before this. A fantastic work anyway. TBL still rulez!
fucking craze.
Now also watchable on demoscene.tv (see demoscene.tv download link)
nice show!
impressionant !
But it did not work with my winUAE :(
But it did not work with my winUAE :(
TBL's strength seems to be combining 3D animations with elegant 2D backgrounds to make things look much more impressive... And it works.
I'll grant you I recognized a lot of the effects from SilkCut, but it's still pretty cool. Especially that last crow at the end- THAT was really impressive animation synching.
Oh, and to whomever said it was videogame-style? I was thinking movie when I saw it...

as usual, a top prod from tbl
stunning :)
Simply the best :)
I love the style of TBLs demos, this is true scene spirit! The hammer-robot must be just about the coolest greetings part ever!
Kalms is the master of squeezing out good effects of that old hardware (by great coding, and great cheating! :))
Music, graphics and animation is also outstanding quality.
Best demo of 2006!

what else?
Simply incredible. When I see such demos I ask myself if Amiga has been ever used at its maximum...
To get it work on WinUAE simply have a kick3.1 rom, insert the workbench adf, make a filesystem shared folder in hard disks and put the demo directory in here. Start workbench and double click on starstruck.exe. Make sure you set the 68040 processor, the emulation speed at fastest possible, tha aga chipset and at least 64Mb of z3 ram. WinUAE is absolutely the best way to appreciate this superb demo.
@TAD:
An AMIGA 1200 or 4000 AGA with 68060 + 64MB RAM and a PAL monitor is definitely the best way to appreciate this demo ;)
(it runs nearly the same speed)
AFIK adjusting the 040 UAE isn't always the best choice ... I for my part (when I need an Amiga on PC) have my CPU settings to 020+FPU.

great
amazing. nice to see the miggy still has a place, after all this time!
TBL for president or something...
hm me watched it 4 times by now, but forgot to thumb up:)
here it is!
here it is!
It's a pity to have to use WinUAE to enjoy this great Amiga demo. TBL could do the best demo ever if they could use a powerful PC... In the Assembly party they had to use WinUAE to show the demo :-/ ???
Hmm wath to say... Awesome!
Expecially the quality you achieved in character animation and the complexity of some scenes.
Expecially the quality you achieved in character animation and the complexity of some scenes.
ok, this was the best demo of the compo. It still feels like any other TBL amiga demo that I have seen recently - not necessarly a bad thing, as they do what they do extremely well. But in places it is a re-run of ocean machine/little nell.
Some very very nice design ideas in there, and it is probably pushing the envelope for the amiga hardware quite alot.

Oh oh... You guyz...
i personally think lapsuus was more stunning (which doesn't mean this demo roxx'n'kixx).
especially the soundtrack is something amazing, only few scenes were average for this masterpiece.
amiga demos like this both proofs that amiga scene still rocks *and* it almost demotivates less talended coders from their effort ('coz they may think they will never reach the level of TBL)
was the all effort worth it?
hell yeah!

uae capture - 127mb
very nice work
awesome.
Great!

The uae capture is good. But the framerate hurts the scene with the flying lady. And the blur of the mpg actually enhanced the overall experience somehow... Thanks anyway, the mpgs music quality more or less sucked...
Quote:

if you look closely "the flying lady" is pretty smooth while only the background "animates" at lower framerate; guess why.
I would like to see a grab from the real machine to put this demo into proper perspective. As mesmerizing as the demo is, the blurry video and the fact that it was shown on UAE only do surely put it into a better light.
great one, shame I never had an Amiga and could only saw it on video
sick as hell
Stelthz: The demo is even more amazing on "real" hardware than it is in UAE. I saw it on a 50 MHz '060 machine at Evoke, and the frame rate wasn't much lower than with WinUAE on my 2 GHz Athlon ... un-f*cking-believable!
this prod just rulez!
i thumbed this up already, and if i could i would thumb it up again.. not for the visuals, sure it's an "impressive" demo, but basically it's recycled stuff with really good design.. HOWEVER, the soundtrack is one of the best i've ever heard.. i find myself looping it(before i got the mp3 i was looping the divx in mplayer) in winamp.. exactly my style.. i'd sell my soul if i could get close to what Olof is doing... massive amounts of <3
Massive demo! Code is more evolutionary than revolutionary, but top-notch. Great models and gfx. But what makes this absolutely awesome is the music. Must have been a killer on the big screen...
very nice
tbl are the masters of the mood
tbl are the masters of the mood
nothing really outstanding and mindblowing here. another quality ART demo!
this is awesome
As usual, a perfect combination of drawn and 3d graphics. "Only AMIGA makes it possible!"
Plus, i simply bloody love TBL's style.

I think the best TBL's Amiga prod. Awesome! Rulezzz!

TBL's finest homebrew!
Awesome! It is demos like this that make me seriously wonder why I even bother with PC
psychad, amiga demos that jerk and bug on a real amiga but can be captured smoothly in emulator on pc makes you wonder why you even bother with pc? ok..
masterpiece
hollowman: thanks for that remark, I haven't seen it on a real Amiga yet.
hollowman: what's the point. The demo runs perfect on the real hardware (it just drains the RAM :D )
dodge, i believe my a1200 060/50 with 64 meg ram is quite real
so that's my config too...what goes wrong ?
Make sure you supply at least more than 50Megs of FastRAM available. Do you have the Oxypatcher installed, yet?

inspiring. i love the 2d design and logos.
Amazing!

Design rocks, tune rocks, code rocks. Demo rulez!!!
is the designer in this demo also dstrukt? or is that a really shameless copy?
anyone have a downloadlink for the music available? the posted one does not work?
Everything has been said; all-out glorious!
Masterpiece!
ROCKS!
soundtrack link is broken. :(
I can watch this over and over. The music matches the visuals perfectly. Respect!
Kalms is unstoppable. Kick ass in every respect - and respect they deserve!
it remains great work, but the ripping incident (which i'd like to hear cleared up, please, cos from where im sitting it looks like a frame by frame steal), and the way it looks on real hw has taken the shine off it a bit for me.
it's the blockiness of the skyboxes, i think. there's just too much of the 3d done on prerendered textures, and too little that is actually rendered realtime for me to be blindingly impressed by the rendering code (compared to when i thought some of the shadows, 3d except the foreground object, etc might be realtime - yea, naive i know).
it's still a fine piece of work from the guys, especially louie, though. :) i was just a lot more impressed before the ripping came to light and before i saw it on real hardware, talked to some amiga coders about it and so on. it looks a lot better on video where it smooths together a lot better.

An excellent demo, though I think the platform is a bit overhyped in this case. It's not exactly a 7 MHz Amiga 500 we're talking about here, but rather a heavily upgraded machine with one of the fastest 68k processors available and lots of RAM... Compare it to high-end 486 demos, because that's about the specs of the machine, save for the more awkward graphics modes. Still great though, but not surprisingly good.
anyone from tbl want to tell something about the dstrukt part? someone from you is part of dstrukt or is it just a plain rip off?
The ultimate demo! Rocks like the sound of popping popcorn ;)
glorious
This demo rocks! Soundtrack and visuals works in perfect synergy. Respect!
ripping rocks indeed :)

well stunning demo naturly. but the design is ripped (?) and well... on my real amiga it really isnt all that great. sooo. that all gives me some bad thoughts... superb job by louie as allways :)
<3 i adore this <3
Retro yet innovative demo DESIGN. The execution is just awesome: SYNCH, themes, colors, scenes, attitude, MUSIC, DYNAMICS, cheats etc... Superb skybox-cheats for great FPS! <3 :-D
As great as it is, it's not flawless:
- The 2d babes, like the other clipart overlays, are very stylish, but 3d babes will never work for me.
- some things were obviously rushed: landscape scene for example is super ugly.
- too many themes.
- a few scenes, like dot-trees on ball, did not fit.
I disagree totally with complaints about
- ripping
- cheating/tricks
These things do not ruin the demo. They make it better. It's not coder porn and it's not ment to be. There are many types of porn, see?

also
- related to the 3d-babe issue: some scenes are too much game-inspired
- some low-poly skybox artifacts (appears rushed again)
I didnt mean to be rude talking about "clipart" I was referring to the black 2d artwork overlays, which I assumed were photoshop brushes from the internet(?), but i really shouldn't make that assumption since I don't know..
I'm happy this has reached all-time top on pouet! (finally something new!)

noooo... thumb went the wrong way!! :((((
The "what do they want..." dialog is taken from the Babylon 5 spin off "Third Space", but as Silkcut had a similar thing going (taken from Gangs Of New York), one can grant that a fashion.
As mentioned above, a lot of the content shown in Starstruck refers heavily to design productions and projects by dstrukt.
In the final analysis the last 2 big TBL prods may have went a little bit over the top, meaning the inspiration got a little too close to the original.

Well yes and the trees on a ball near the end is very damn similar to http://www.vladstudio.com/wallpaper/?390 but in the end I dont care. It was all really well executed.
kick ass demoshit, roxx
The music, the execution, wow, I'm speechless. Damn, I need more glops for an extra cdc :)
My only complaint is that the silkcut landscape, although probably less technically impressive, looks better.

What? are my votes being sucked into some big black hole or something? pfft anyways. Great demo, but Ocean Machine floats my boat more :)
wow, wow, wow, wow!

great prod, but i've always been a bit let down by the animated backgrounds in tbl-prods, they feel like cheap cheatin'. still, this demo is quite awesome

Kibaszott nagy ez a demo!
At last I got a Blizzard 1260/66 and could watch this on a real A1200. TBL rocks!
Now that I hear its an animation in this demo i want to redraw my thumb.
skrebbelsuperfan: better thumb down on barbie suicide, then. that's 100 MB.. this is maybe 15 MB or so. and it's only half an animation.. alpha sprites and textured polys are used, so it's still a demo. it's hard to argue with the design and presentation of the thing too.
Great!
awesome!
Runs really fast and smooth under OS4 on my CSPPC A4000, except for the landscape with the moving shadows which is a little sluggish.
Amazing!
excellence
Great but I prefer their Breakpoint demos :)
that's great
Elements of this amazing production somehow remind me Unreal, Resident Evil and Black & White.
Black Lotus, you rule!

I, for one, welcome our new military sharks overlords. :D Oh, and this demo rocks big time.

I liked some other TBL demos more, but this was decent enough. Atmosphere was awesome.
The cup scene was impressive!!!
TBL makes me =)
I didn't comment on this already?!@
Soundtrack is spectacular. I think the last time I heard anything from Blaizer was from Pinball Fantasies way back when.
I don't think there was a single part in this demo that didn't keep me wanting MORE - though the terrain part I found to be the weakest part. Though that's like mentioning the least attractive woman on a supermodel calendar - they're all still pretty hot, yeah? :D

I would like to see a new amiga demo at the bp09 democompo :P
Made me cry during first times watching. Outstanding feeling and it wouldn't have been the same without the incredible music by Olof. Like many others I guess, I just wanna experience a new Amiga demo like this !
An awesome demo. The music itself is great but so overfuckingcompressed... I wonder if there's a "normal" version out :<
The best. And Blaizer's soundtrack is on my top-3 list of soundtracks of all time. The design is jawdropping. Amazing.
Great soundtrack.
loved the crow most of all
love every aspect :)
Loving this
Late thumb !
I guess this was the last we saw from the Amiga scene...
This is wonderful, beautiful, perfect and with more spirit than all those modern PC demos. PLATIN!

This is THE demo, king of kings. My personal coup de coeur.

I get really low framerate on my Amiga with 060 on this one. Does it need 66mhz?
you break shit

lolz, you showed us something completely new :D why should it not work on amiga?
uh, it's magic.. it works on amiga :D
Link is only posted for those people who, for example, don't own an amiga anymore but would like to see it run on it ;-)
where is the atari version? someone told me it was supose to be a version for atari released at outline.
Eliecan, hopefully Mikro will be home soon to upload the Atari version. I'll capture it as soon as possible :)
Ok, so Starstruck on Falcon is here.
It's the final version, so it differs a bit from the Assembly release seen on the Amiga, but it's still kicking ass :-)
Download the demo for Falcon
Video capture from the Falcon
The gamma is a bit low on the video capture, might have to give it another shot later on.

Evil: if the atari conversion is the final version which isnt released for the amiga yet (according to the .readme) than how did you get it ? And when will it be released on the amiga ?
falcon version : hell yeah
Wow! This is the final version! O_o
Incredible! The Skybox movies are much more smooth with the Falcon that on WinUAE with my 2,5 ghz dualcore!!!
With the Falcon the spider mechanical scene and the daughter scene running constantly to 2vbl !!!(CT60 72/25mhz)
I rediscovered the Blaizer soundtrack with this dsp version, the frequency is much hight and the stereo sounds effects are incredible ! O_O
Otherwise this new version is even more beautiful, Kalms... you must realise on amiga !
Thank you Kalm /tbl, Tank you ''Magic'' Mikro for this version even better!
"Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster." :D

The port itself deserved an extra thumb when I watched the beta, but [i]holy mother of bob[/b], did the final iron out the perfomance problems like a steam iron?
I need more thumbs for the Falcon port. It kicked the amiga version's ass so bad.

thumb for Falcon!
Second thumb needed. Are the differences really Falcon related or version related ?
Whyohwhy isn't the crap-compressed soundtrack fixed as well?!
Magic: I got it from the author of the port, which has been collaborating with Kalms. I don't know when the final version will hit Amiga, I think only Kalms can answer that :)
now it´s smooth as hell finally ! and on the falcon! :D never got it to run smooth on 060/50 on my Amiga and therefor was not completely happy about it! Now i am!
I guess after all this years of war it is now Atari > Amiga ;)

gotta thumb it.

Proteque: it was only jerky because the anims were out of sync on a 50mhz crystal. it runs smoothly at 60mhz only...even on Amiga.
so Amiga still > Atari! :D
so Amiga still > Atari! :D
comment on ocean machine.
this demo rules once more!
Quote:
One of my favourite Amiga demos. I'm not an Atari person, but it's cool that they can now share in this prod's goodness.
Hopefully you guy's will get Starstruck...one day ;)
this demo rules once more!
Tho I can only enjoy it via the video, I send huge thanks to Mikro for this awesome port ! Rocks !
calimero: the video is updated with better gamma settings. same url.
great job mikro ;)
Cool demo!
Thanks Mikro for the Falcon port!
Thanks Mikro for the Falcon port!
Of course it really rules.

Competition is over folks. No more amiga demos after this, this is clearly the winner
unbelievable 3D, enormous design, falcon port !
One of my all time favorites!
I thumbed this already in it's golden Amiga youth, admiring the production, little suspecting it would get ported to my favourite alternative platform, why only one thumb?! Damn you Pouet! ;-)
sex :)
The best Amiga demo ever, incredible engine capabilities, excellent music... TBL totally rocks!
One must ask if there is ever going to be a better and newer Amiga demo that gets any better than this :)
Even after 3 years this demo is still just plain awesome.
I have honestly found I can watch this on my real A1200 060 and I don't mind it one bit. Yes, it is a little slow in some areas.
Overall though it is still great. Considering this demo was mainly developed in WinUAE.
One must wonder if Kalms has fixed his A1200 060 or got another accelerator board to finally finish this on a real Amiga to optimise it more.
At least get others to test and find out if it improves or not.
The Atari falcon port is also extremely good. I did notice there were potentially less colours in some areas though. Overall though, both are just plain excellent.
Will TBL ever release another Amiga demo up to this standard. Time will tell.
5/5.
10/10.
Cannot fault this demo. Would have been great to see it at the big screen at the Assembly party event.

Amazing! Fascinating! Great!
TBL should do more amigaaaaaa fukking great
Brilliant!
.
fucking awesome
Aye.
geil-o-mat, despite the excessive use of generic content ;)
nice design, nice effects. rulez
There are a couple of awesome scenes...
amazing and unforgettable noisy soundtrack. forgot I hadn't dropped a thumb yet.
just see, old machine, an atmosphere trusted, intense drive, evolution through opposite spaces. Thank you TBL!
I recently, at two seperate occasions, saw this demo played on the real hardware and on a bigscreen. Which made me sad there hasn't been a new TBL demo ever since.. Come on Kalms & Co ! Do your thing!
I was a little bit expecting come back this year (especially on the last Breakpoint), but he probably takes his time. Elude needs oponent and Amiga needs hi-tech demos more then ever before.
Hell yeah!
Totally awesome !
Best demo soundtrack ever. this tune gets serious playback time.
this is nice
I with Blaizer would remix/master the soundtrack - it's a shame that such a gem lives on through that horribly limited/distorted crap-MP3 :(
i second gloom on this case!
Animation or not, still this is a cool demo
Like very much
rulez
I take my previous comment back and replace it with this one: this demo is a masterpiece.
of course !
such a great demo!
Breathtaker!
Shit! Haha.. HARDC0RE! The hammerbeating robot.. God damn! RAWRRRRRRR
Any idea what is the name of the source of vocal samples in this soundtrack ?
"What do they want? To destroy all the life [...]"
"What do they want? To destroy all the life [...]"
AMIGA RULEZ!
Awesome demo! The credit scene is wonderful.
Data, I'm pretty sure it's from Babylon 5: Thirdspace

Yup, it was from Babylon 5, thanks Cryptic :)
Atari Falcon!!!!
Amiga !!
Falcon port!
What, I didn't thumb this up yet?! :) Awesome spider robot is awesome!
Nice to see a Falcon port, make more! There are lots of c2p CPU-only demos that should be easy.

Atari Falcon version rules
great demo
Really really really amazing ! I could not imagine such an hign quality demo coud be realised one day on Falcon.
It's nearly incredible for me ! Design, atmosphere, gfx like great PC demos, with much much lower machine time.
Really Thx to Black Lotus. You're incredible !
Very good moment ! =))

As an old fart atarian, it just blows me away to see this of all demos on falcon. The demo is outstanding, almost everything perfectly placed... i just hate that visor wearing bitch for no special reason :D This prod is definitely on the 1st lanes in my personal cool book, altho i could not really tell why the hell i love starstruck so much. Massive demo, tbl... extra kudos! And extra-extra kudos for the f030 port!
TBL <3
yes.
Very amazing demo!
These graphics... effects... soundtrack... its STYLE!
It has a huge IMPACT!

after 6 years, I must admit this is best demo music of decade. So impressive, power, emotional. I wish i could give another thum ub for featured music score.
<3
.
thumb up
Well...of course
Smashing the competition!
hm, can't believe i haven't thumbed this yet. it was absolutely mindblowing on the stream.
Just realised - the music is by Olaf Gustafsson, of Pinball Dreams fame!
My favourite demo on the Amiga, thanks guys!
Awesome everything! I absolutely love the soundtrack.. One of my all time favs!
One of the best demos ever.
Brilliant, thank you.
ja pierdole!
Starts a bit slow, but has both robots, landscape-shadow-coderporn and dramatic ravens. What's there not to like?
<3
2013 : tbl's return ?
cool!
not too bad ;)
saw kalms last night on the revision live stream and he said they are working on a new amiga demo..but when its released, thats for time to see...
robot greet smashing goodness. smooth robo fish. cute crow part.
I've reached near more than five hundreds crows feconded a year. thousand of pigeons and sparrows, all able to understand human language and a new hair color for cats.
loveable
Masterpiece with massive soundtrack!
My favourite Amiga prod. The atmosphere is pretty darn intense.
massive
Rulez
Amiga + graphics + coffee + music = nice demos, always ... ;D
A masterpiece of art obviously. So good, so fantastic, so formidable. Perfect.
Quality. Quality once again.
Best amiga demo ever!!!
indeed
This is as big as Hardwired or Desert Dream from the ages ago...
TBL, we want more :)
TBL, we want more :)
rocked
yes, it did.
Nice demo!
Cool! :)
What can I add, one of the best demo ever :) Strong forgotten thumb!
Epic!
Highly emotionnal. May be an overall lack of fun. rulez anyway.
scary stuff
brilliant demo!
why is my thumb up missing here?
not the best but nice
Wondering.. now where TBL is back, will there be a final version of Starstruck too perhaps? :D
Falcon 4ever!
Just so awesome.
Still so great
Awesome amiga demo!
DO LIKE
A few scenes are so so, but some others make this worth the watch :P
After almost nine years this is still the best amiga 060 demo in my book, so here's the thumb :)
Strong.
long missing thumb
real insane in every aspect: visuals, music, style, coding
a masterpiece
The music makes the demo IMHO
Fish, clouds, crows - all the ingredients of a classic demo ;)
Some wonderful parts: intro/landscape/greetings/crow.
If it can be ported to Falcon, then can it be a particularly good demonstration of the Amiga AGA platform. Maybe the effective platform could be something like "060 + some weird graphics pipeline that had to be worked around"
G.R.E.A.T - A masterpiece that still rulez. Music and graphics accord with each other perfectly.
If I could take only one demo to a desert island, I'd probably choose this one - fantastic prod with a fucking great soundtrack.
Not as appealing to me as other TBL works, but nevertheless superb and very impressive.
Where are you tbl ? We love you for ever !
Massive thumb up from me!!! And a very late one too, ooops.. ;D
I just realized that the pre-rendered 3d background part starting at 1:53 looks eerily similar (in too many details) to this early Half-Life 2 concept art image for later removed Air Exchange chapter: Airex reactor by Viktor Antonov.
music rocked
its definately one of the best amiga demos, but its not in my Top5. I dont like the theme and atmosphere of the demo (not really a fan of dark and gritty demos). Ocean Machine is still untouched imo :)
very great demo
power
awesome
Absolutely, yes.
the music is so monumental and finally I've discovered the true artistic significance of amiga! 💖
I made a video with both versions at same time. Amiga & Falcon. enjoy:

First thumb for the final version. :P
Thumb up for the final. Ran really smoothly on just 50Mhz and all the glitches were gone.
THE DEMO.
finally is here final version !
Final Version is great. Tnx TBL.
Thank you for the final version :)
awesome and tq for final!
Wow! Thumb up!
This demo is still relevant, after all these years so it really doesn't matter if the final comes out after 12 years of the original release :)
If the coding itch grows bigger, then the only cure will be a new TBL demo.. ;)

9 years after Atari port, incredible! Thank you very much for this gift TBL
Maybe a new release ? captured dreams in "HD" ? ^^
Maybe a new release ? captured dreams in "HD" ? ^^
This demo gets more impressive each time I see it. I noticed some new details now:
- There is light inside the visor of the woman hanging from the robot arm
- The orange haze below the woman extends out between the rotating turbine
- The crawling robot is affected by the surrounding shadows
- There is some pulsing light on the fractal trees
But that might aswell have been in the original :) Anyway great details and scenes from beginning to end! The crow at the end deserves an oscar for best animation on amiga !

The best of the best
final release gave me a pretext to watch it again. still comes with a wow factor.
what to say... epic!
I'm trying to make a habit of coming back and thumbs-upping works that I remember to be great.
My god i never rated this awesome piece of work, Rulez ofc!!
This is impressive stuff, even 13 years later. I loved the glitching presentation and the spider scene especially. The environment was very nicely cheated to give a full scale 3d impression! Awesome work!
Simply Rulez, my Thumb.
Incredible!!!
OH MY GOD (sorry for caps, but this demo actually rocks, even today)
Very cool!
A masterpiece on its own.
One of the best
nice one
gotta thumb this demo up right now. one of the bestest amiga demos ever
fucking hell
all time fav
impressive
