Well, i don't know what was so great in this Demo...Converting an Amiga prod which uses not even the half of the system's capabilities, plus a soundtrack which is not really fitting, compared to other TBL prods...

definitly _not_ the true winner of the compo.
- Lil' Bitchard's tune sounds like a Loogober remix
- starting scene seems like a ripoff from Silkcut
- the middlepart sequences where too rigid for their design
- greetings part was very cool (because of the typo)
To sum it up:
A good start on the new platform (I don't think TBL will release another highclass Amiga demo anymore), but it didn't deserve the 1st place.

clean, slick..
Perhaps to much mixture of style and a little to static..

it was nice, but it missed something..
perhaps i was just expecting it to abuse the platform limits too much..
still, worth seeing again.

no. I see no sense in this platform. It just looks like an ordinary, avarage PC demo. If it was a PC demo then you would be easy beaten.
You're comparing apples to oranges. By the same logic, let's not forget the infinitely more impressive TBL demos run on machines with six times slower clockspeed and half the memory of a PS2.
While it's nice to see more PS2 demos, this is not exactly mind boggling and certainly not a winner in my book. Exin has my vote on this being a less-than-savoury conversion of what could've been a neat amiga demo.

I love it ! Good work guys but I'm not that neutral, you know how big is my love for the PS2. You spent a lot of time on it, there is probably tons of VU assembly code behind, the result is simply amazing, I love those (fractals ?) mountains, the tunnel rendering, great job.
And don't mind, you should code on a PS2 to undestand how good is this compo, you derserved the 1st palce, you've got it :D Sceners decided !
Aura for Laura is not alone aymore !!!!

Not quite soopa, but pretty. Kicking tune too.
i can'T say much about how this demo fulfills the platform capacities and blahblahblah, i don't even care concerning that this is probably the BEST drum'n'bass track ever released in a demo!
elbee, could you make the mp3 available? thx!

I heard that tune before. Isn't there a VERY SIMILAR ONE somewhere else?
The demo lacks a lot of sync imho.
Piggy.

And the ps2 is way more complex to code for compared to PC, why do you think there arent that many ps2 demos?
I've heard that it's impossible to develop anything on newer ps2 models & if that's true, isn't it a good reason for the severe lack of ps2 demos ?
I say: most of the stuff seen here are precalculated textures or not ?
mediocre to the bone. louie, please go back to the amiga :P
soundtrack was great. First scene looks cool, but it's mostly recycled from both silkcut as ocean machine. the rest are just un-louie graphics that were very average with some prebaked static shadowing or gi.
i'll go for a piggie too

I think this was fucking excellent!
i really couldn't care less about the platform. this demo was fukkn sweet and i would give it my vote even if it was pc. and i totally agree with dipswitch, the soundtrack is awesome.
what gnilk, ps and half trace post says.
still nice to see a true solid demo with no flicker or temporal framelosses, even more nice nowadays that not even amiga demos are smooth.

megadelux, i don't recall loonies' 4k intro losing any frames :P
Amazing tune which saves the demo from being an unimaginative scene sequence played by a good 3d engine without any particular direction effort.
Don't waste your potential more than this, or next time we'll get those 12 points and beat you :)

Really what I disliked about this demo is how un-TBL it was. The aesthetics and pacing was very reminiscent of the very pc productions they are able to differentiate themselves from. An alternative way to say it is that it relies too much on its soundtrack.
Hmm, good work. But, of course a PS2 is slower than a PC but easily 5 times faster than a 68060 and therefor a "rulez" (as is standing besides the thumb) is not fitting. Should have been less boring or with an interesting concept... I think the GBA-Demo was way underweighted. This one ruled and no one knowed ;)
pure beauty. love it
It looks good, but it has no soul.
winden:
I do
I do
Well, I enjoyed this one. Surely doesn't push the PS2 much and I would have *MUCH* prefered to see this on the Amiga1200. But it was still enjoyable. Perhaps people are only so critical because they expect so much from TBL? Anyway...thanks guys.
Note: Louie...don't you dare stop doing Amiga prods!!! I think we (amiga scene in general) are a bit dissapointed you didn't work with Kalms and co. on Requiem :(

Great music and also looks really nice, but the scenes seems to me way too static.
Not at all my favourite from the compo... Piggie for me :P
for the track.
Classy one!
Stylish and smooth!
Everyone bitching about this not pushing the ps2 etc..should try to code one themselves, it's not like you got DirectX or similar stuff to use.
And I love the music!

cubic fireflies!
there are only 10 ps2 prods on pouet and this one is surely one of the best
I like it
I like it
not really my thing, but thumb for doing console-stuff!
Nice visuals but too boring for me.

I honnestly did.
Nevertheless, my thumb up for the excellent tune.
kenny.
It's a nice demo, not the best in the compo but still very good.
superb music, but the rest is just medicore and so damn incoherent.
Ok, maybe I was a little too harsch at the party place and on pouet. I just wanted to kick your asses a little and motivate you to make your own move and develop sth refreshing in TBL. And yes I was looking at the whole thing and comparing it only to "Ocean Machine" and "Silkcut". This was wrong, so I'm sorry. Next time just shut my f&!#*ng mouth with awesome stuff. Cheers - and sorry for my annoing person at the party place.
thumb for TBL thumb for ps2 thumb for the prod; fuck yeah!
Some scenes looked good (nice work Louie, as always), but the demo was boring and the synchro was off-beat and quite annoying.
good stuff, and nice to see another ps2 demo :)

1) it's lug00ber
2) no it doesn't
3) I'm not sure who you are trying to put down, me for making poor music or lb for copying my style or something. Either way I don't see much resemblance between this tune and my tunes, apart from that they're both in the drum and bass-genre.
Moving on, I like both the demo and the tune. A thumb up from me :)
sorry for misspelling ya name.
I didn't try to put down anyone.
That were just the facts that came to my mind by watching the demo. over

lug00ber: i wouldnt mind if you would make more of this (or Out the Exits for that matter) though ;)
ps2 demo in tbl.
great music.
good some scene.
however, overall a bit boring.

I think it's good, expecially all that precomputed lighting Does the job (my fav scene is the tunnel).
Nice jungle track of course.

thumb-erection for:
- doing it on another platform
- the nice music
- nice visuals

Looks slick, and tastes good
if this demo was a PC demo entry in compo it will end at 8th - 10th place or worse
sorry TBL. Amiga suits you better
sorry TBL. Amiga suits you better
even if I was pretty tired and alcoholized I figured from speaking with emoon that the ps2 is quite a beast. This features loads of optimizing for keeping the ps2 execution units busy. The vumeters are ace. As are the rainbow colours slipped in with the metal in places. The black blur/fog stuff at the beginning was very slick too.. Music was teh shit too, so whats with the complaining?
Little Bitchard saves the show, but ...
Namevoting sucks, Shitfaced Clowns deserved the win
Namevoting sucks, Shitfaced Clowns deserved the win
everything except from the landscape and tunnel was ugly and boring.
I find this one rather boring actually... It all looks good and stuff. no doubt. but... well...
the thumb never made it. better luck this time.
Nice visuals and music as always but not really very entertaining. I've seen FAR better stuff from TBL.
And somehow at the partyplace I got the feeling that the black flowered guys will the sooner or later completly move away from Amiga which would be pretty sad.

the tune blew my mind.
very well executed
this 4sure is good!
I really liked it, but IMHO compared to five finger discount this should have been second place.
mindblasting visuals + perfectly fitting music. looks like a vj set, so the silkcut-copy part seems out of the place. whoever cares about technical aspects when the show is this good?
I have to agree with !=, this demo is really un-tbl-ish... which is not a bad thing as such, but it also lacks direction, imagination and style. that tune deserved a better demo built around it.
i enjoyed it much on the bigscreen
snowy mountains is teh shit! good style. tbl is my heroes.
i did a small patch to make it run without a cd via ps2link (only got an unmodded ps2, so... :)
http://www.farbrausch.de/~fg/ps2/4patch.elf
"unpack" the .iso file to a directory, copy 4patch.elf into it, then execute it with the usual tools, e.g. ps2client:
(and yeah, i probably could've just asked emoon, but what the heck, i wanted to watch it NOW :)

This technically, visually and musically advanced but it just feels boring.
I want Louie back on the Amiga...

the soundtrack is haunting. I listened to it all day yesterday like some 10 year old listening to Roxette - Joyride.
ryg using the psone exploit?
pure rockage
knos, yep.
i like the terminator3 samples and the lightmaps. what tools do you use for those maps? oh and kudos for doing ps2 :)
Kickass tune, trendy visuals but seems a bit unfinished.
a bit too static, nice music.
Missed this before. It rules, great tune, some really good scenes, and console smoothness. I'd imagine the code is pretty good from what i've seen of ps2 stuff.
- Couple of criticisms: could do with a little more coherence
- More abuse of the ps2 hardware could be good, like all the poly pushing effects in aura for laura.
Hope you do another on ps2 - I'd like to see it.

I must give piggie for this. Soundtrack rocks, but overall this is quite boring demo.
Nice demo. The music rules and some scenes look very nice (the shadows mainly). There are also some more boring scenes, but overal still a thumb up.
The beginning looks promising but the rest of it is quite boring. Just a pig for it.
Ok entertainment, but kinda makes me think that you ran out of ideas somewhere along the way
namevoting but still quite good!
new video-link anyone?
jup
Not perfect... but I got used to it :D
please video link?? not having that Sony's USB cable,...so
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvN08LuMiro
sucks, but better than no video at all :)
sucks, but better than no video at all :)
mediocre compared as TBL performance level.
great tunnel!!!
one of the best tbl demos
for the sync
\:D/
Hadn't voted for this one yet. I found it to be pretty cool. Alternatives platforms are always nice to see instead of the run-off-the-mill release for Microsuck.
3D graphics cubic, jungle music
big up for the massive tune
Looks great with some nice rendering. I'm a bit disappointed in the music, but the awesome synching largely makes up for it. Overall, quite a solid PS2 demo, and hopefully not the last one from TBL.
Some parts look nice, some not. I'd like to see more effects than 3d, but this is still worth a thumb.
Very nice.
lovely
I liked it.
very good
Kooler than I remember it from the party.
Nice looks, good flow, great soundtrack.
pretty!
brilliant. but I think SFC should have won the compo!
Cool PS2 demo!
Emoon: will you ever release a ps3 demo?
Anyway convince Kalms to make a new amiga demo first in 2010 :)

awesome TBL rlz <3

.
Little Bitchard style is a little bit repetitive. The buildings and tunnel effects were excellent...
The music rulez
Have to agree with hfr and bhead.
nice nice
good flow and a great tune
.
Great demo! Usual fantastic TBL style! The soundtrack is MASSIVE!!!
.
Great style, nice tune.
not the world's greatest demo, but wonderful music and a lot of attitude and design :)
Ps2 seems to be a touch and leave platform for most groups. Wish there were more follow up demos for this platform. For this one there's already a nice engine in place asking for that next demo which cand do everything 1.25x better.
doesn't load with OPL because of something something missing game ID
late thumb is late
Nice one.
PS. Converted ISO with USB Extreme and launched with USB Advance from flashpen. Everything is ok.

dig it!
Great show. Completely missed it back then.
Doesn‘t seem to work with FreeHDBoot/OpenPS2Loader. Any hints on how to get it to run? I used WinHIIP to install the .iso
Ok found some info on the web: „name the ISO as 'The Black Lotus – 4 Edges.iso' and then put '4EDGES.ELF' as the custom ELF.“
I wonder how this would look with an Uncle-X makeover?
In order to get this to work on OPL you need to rename the ELF to NORG_000.00 and change the name in system.cnf, then repack the ISO
