The blue print for the even more successful impulse tracker, which in turn was the main inspiration for ztracker.

same as dalezy. a huge disappointment after the amiga trackers, so i basically continued using protracker until ft2 arrived.

very ugly and user-unfriendly, but it said to have some good functions.

love at first sight.. or, well.. almost.

I had tried to do music with Octamed and some other trackers on amiga before but this is what really started my tracking 'career'...

Each time i hear about screamtracker & co. i think about heatbeat's "soundblaster symphony".

same here: when I finally managed to use it, it turned out to be such a letdown that I went back to MMEDIT (until FT2 came out, that is).

I was disappointed about starting on this one because FT2 didn't bother to run on my 486. Finally with the arrival of Impulse Tracker i felt quite satisfied (read: thanking god of all sceners).

st3 was a significant enabler for the pc demoscene during the 1990s. i used it a bunch and it was extremely stable. i still miss it.

Studying it now, I find it to be such a sophisticated, detailed and thought out piece of software... Today we are all used to hear large corporations say that only if they exist we can get serious apps. But here we have an application that was made by one person and which is nearly flawless and so rich in features, just to see them at work will require several days of research, if not weeks.

ST3 was always notoriously bug-ridden and quirky. Even the creator(s) said so, iirc.

Good software, I like tracking with this interphace, it helps me sometimes avoid making modules based on schemes.

The other "great" PC scene tracker program, and my favorite from usability point of view (compared to FT2), mostly due to the keyboard commands that felt way more natural to me vs. FT2. But of course, ST3 was not perfect, and was technically less advanced than FT. And the bugs .. mmm. Thankfully Impulse Tracker (and much later, Schism Tracker) imitated the user interface. :)

same as reed, why the fuck they changed effects command name while ALL existing trackers on Amiga used the same naming convention? :(

i just did one s3m chiptune to try it and waited on protracker until FT2 was released :3
added on the 2014-03-17 16:02:59 by rez rez
Quite a few good tunes were made with that one (by purple motion, skaven, necros or even big jim) so it can't be all that bad.
rulez added on the 2014-05-06 18:13:43 by hitchhikr hitchhikr
Obviously rulez apart from the mindboggling bugs in the playback engine.

rez: Because the new effect letters are just BETTER! :D (they are actually more logically ordered, e.g. E slide down / F slide up vs 1 slide up / 2 slide down)...
rulez added on the 2014-05-06 18:44:49 by Saga Musix Saga Musix
Saga: That's debateable, imo PT/FT format wins!

The tracker itself... well, I can't use it, but I really like the format itself, and many good musicians did as well :)
