The first soundtracker on Atari ST.
added on the 2004-09-03 19:17:41 by keops
Yeah..... probably where Karsten Obarski got the idea from :))
yeah ! thx a lot keops :) ... atari rules
Not really Grazey, Soundtracker 1.0 was released back in 1987.
Intrinsic: I think you didnt get the irony in Grazey's comment ;)
Of course Karsten Obarski made it first on amiga in 1987

Irony? whats that? :)
I thought TCB Tracker was the first tracker on Atari. They probably kept it their own usage for a while before releasing it commercially.
Whatever : thumb up for with must have tool, and check the Dead Hackers Society - trackers page for more Atari trackers.

P01: TCB released their soundtracker one year later and they used a custom format which was not compatible with the usual mods.
What's next? People adding fasttracker2? In my book, trackers are no 'demo tools' at all. Guess we need some guidelines what 'demo tool' include and what not. :)
Tomaes: "in my book"?
Sorry, I dont have any demoscene guidelines book ;)
I dont see any reason why FT2 shouldn't be on pouet anyway, it was made by demomakers, mainly for demomakers and is part of scene history (+ people still use it)
"pouët.net - your online demoscene resource". Trackers definitely have their place here imho (especially Karsten Obarski's)

yes, people should add fasttracker2 to pouet.
im just too busy fixing and adding features to do it myself actually.
demotools is for any democreating tool. including trackers, sample generators, textuire generators and anything else you can come up with as long as it was created to do demos/intros/cracktros/musicidisks etc..

Keops: I knew the commercial release of TCB Tracker was in 91 but I always thought they used a private version for their demos during several months before. Damn, that's ~14 years old, my memory is tricking me :p
yes
Yes the first with the original GUI design, and mod format. (the first tracker I tryed was quartet where you writed music with the mouse and solfege -rnd for me :p-)
I was crying for the size of the pattern ;)
This is a demotool !

Keops: "in my book" is a common English phrase. ;)
ps: My understanding of the 'demo-tool' category was more like 'tool, which was exclusively made to help making demoscene prods'. Trackers are more or less just software samplers with pattern sequencing and thus music composition tools. So, we have to draw a line, imho. In any case, we'll need some sub-categories for all those different items.

Tomaes you must return in your room to learn a bit more "scene history" i'm afraid...
Trackers ARE demotool, and you took FT2 as example who is exactly THE tool who can be called "demotools" because it was done for demoscene BY demosceners (Triton if you have heard of them and you know demoscene before windows & 3d accelerated demos...)
btw....

First of all, trackers are not demoscene exclusive tools per definition (as I've already explained to some extend in the mpt thread), and secondly, you obviously don't know anything at all about me, since you funnily enough try to tell me who triton was. And finally, the case is settled already, so stop arguing about that. :)

please gentlemen... :)
A fine piece of program, but the first soundtracker on the ST? Hard to say, I had TCB Tracker in may 1990 at the party in Rönninge/Stockholm.
I'll try to check the exact date(s) but I'm convinced it was released before.
Moreover TCB tracker had its custom format as you well know and was totally incompatible with any existing mod.

well, sorry for being too much agressive with you Tomaes but since most of the best trackers (protracker, fasttracker, screamtracker, impulse tracker...) are released by wellknown demogroup i think trackers fits perfectly the "demotool" section...
also, i'm sure you know exactly what Triton is, so i'm sorry again :)

This is the first REAL soundtracker on Atari! free and so on... Thanx to equinox to make demo scene so better on Atari! Huura for Equinox :)
Very good tool!
Also I remember the Equinox soundtracker player (the one with the logo drawn by Minute Man).
And the Ste player (not so beautiful, but efficient at the time).

Tomaes: it's quite ironical that you were the one who eventually added FastTracker 2 afterwards ;)
This rules!

I'm afraid I never voted for this one ... shame on me ... of course it rocked those days :)
