Again a great physical demo by Floppy. This time I even like the music very much. A must see, but you will *really* need a fast machine for some parts of the demo (was even on the compo machine partly f*cking slow).

good and bad scenes... but overall very good, this kind of demos are rarely made

Almost good. I don't much like the design or music but much of the physics is great fun to watch (even if it does slow down to a crawl when there are lots of contacts). But what on earth is going on in the scene with the koala?
added on the 2003-07-09 19:17:20 by Pete Pete
Liked it. Unfortunately some scene are really ugly, f.e. the screenshoted one.

Nice physics effects, I've always enjoyed those. Worked fine too, _except_ for 2 scenes which gave me something like 1 frame per 15 seconds (!?) .. Anyway, nice stuff.

Symphony Party Entries Rule :) So of course this One too :) Like it very much, Impressive Show :)

Too slow ? Maybe that using a semi-implicit integrator and per-particle adaptive time steps could help :-)

I played with cloth simulation and softbody dynamics some years ago. Another way of improvement should be using multiresolution meshs to allows the choose of localy simplified meshe where the acceleration vectors are fairly similar.

Happy coding floppies ! :-p

Great physics and nice gfx and the soundtrack made me hard :-)

Dream Equation 1 was a surprising atypical production mixing hardcore physics with TaTu music...

with smoother design the new Dream Equation 2 is still an out-and-out hardcore production of a scientist : the main proof is that a poor teddy koala is tortured as a guinea pig of monstuous biomodification experiments (damn i miss my childhood teddy koala so much !)

if a new Dream Equation is planned for the future i would like sexier content than a "scientific paper" : i dream for example of "Dream Equation : girls can do math too!" or "Dream Equation : coitus physics"... though i must admit i find the bouncing and flattening balls already very sexy !

so triple thumbs up for this new Dream Equation, except the unbearable torture scene...

PS: both Dream Equation demos need to run in win98 compatibility mode on my XP box.

Take your shitty prods elsewhere if you can't release it normally without making a big show out of it, it like everyone else...

the 1st demo was good, but not this one...
and a part is running at 1 frame all the 2-3 seconds (all jelly balls in the box) on my p4 at 3GHz...

christ... i totally agree with rainmaker on this one. it's nothing special, but they act as such.

saw that stuff before.

more than once. but the other ran fluent
sucks added on the 2003-07-10 14:36:52 by delta delta
framerate dropped to nothing in the scene with blobs in cube... on a 3ghz p4...
besides the design sucked, the physics are non-impressive and there is no tatu.
sucks added on the 2003-07-10 15:28:44 by shiva shiva
Where are these parts running at 1 frame per seconds as you say? I can't remember any of these, everything ran fine in a 2Ghz Athlon. I will try it in my own slower computer to see..

expected much more. too f.... slow!

Definitely better than the previous Equation. I love physic demos and this one also features good music and smooth design.
I want to see fat boobs and bukkake in the next release, please.

Rather watchable, but doesn't deserve a thumb up, IMHO

This definitely has some strong points, but just doesn't open my eyes 100%.
shiva: So, you want commercial music in demos? Shame on you, that shouldn't come from a member of a well known and respected group...
added on the 2003-07-11 00:16:42 by Crest Crest
some nice code in there, but absolutely fails to work as a demo (for me).
added on the 2003-07-11 00:16:46 by ryg ryg
I follow ryg ;) Plus I add :
Forces shown as segments is not esthetic I think. When your soft bodies are stacking it kills the framerate on my poor PIII 600. I had like 5 spf. Plus it happens also in a scene where it's written "real time", are you kiding.
Code is not even impressive, verlet scheme can do this with little effort.
I prefered the previous, it was more modest, and softly designed - different was good.
Next time make real visual and sync demo, or make a different demo, mixing both here is just wrong.
added on the 2003-07-11 01:52:17 by Sanx Sanx
a little bit too much flaming here. it's not THAT ugly. of course, -2 points for attitude.

about speed: runs flawless on my athlon 1000, so i guess the performance problem is related to unpredicted branches on P4. this problem is often underestimated. it gives the P4 a bad reputation amoung coders, which it does not really deserve. any chance using conditional moves? you are not targeting Pentium1 processors anyway.

the physics code itself fails to be impressive. hey, it's just 3 blobs! seeing a few rigid bodies interacting would impress me much more.

some design wouldn't hurt here. with proper textures, gfx and models this could've been a hit...
added on the 2003-07-17 10:13:45 by bhead bhead
Not quite as good as the first one. Could have indeed used more design instead of a blurred cloud backdrop. ~_~

it's a demo of animation + some 2d, but nothing else. 3ds max effect it's not demo for me:)

It didn't run too bad on my PC once I closed all background tasks, but I thought the demo was a bit bland on the whole.

blaah. making a demo on the idea of "we're so cool when we can make a physics engine" just SI TEH SUXXXORZZ. + it was ugly and boring.

not to the level of floppy productions on Amiga ... :( Some movements are really cool, ando some really slowwww (even on my GF4 4200Ti) ... maybe in 2 or 3 productions they will come to past levels of quality

Hi.

Paper about method of soft body simulation:

Matyka, M. and Ollila, M. "A pressure model for soft body simulation", Proc. of Sigrad, UMEA, November 2003

has been succesfully released. More info and PDF file are available on my web site:

Best,

I forgot to mention that it's a paper about method of soft body behavior which was used in that demo of course :)

started good with a good texture from Fame and an ok music
but after that, gfxs are so ugly (specially textures and red bars)
ah yes, it is a math coder prod, ok so yes effects looks good, physics and more, but why Fame did not do the other textures ?
code problem : after the first 3 potatoes, a square with rocks in it appears, it runs at 1 frame per 10 seconds on my P4 1.8 + GeF4, the other effects are smooth
link broken?
Yes, I have completely no idea why demo has been removed from sceme.org, use this link instead:

LOL Pentium 4. And on my birthday of 2003 Antlon64 would set the world aflame. And two years later I would get a Pentium 4 for Christmas, which I still have in my desktop ;.<
